Protesters bring midtown traffic to standstill as nation rallies against Trump

NEW YORK — Thousands of demonstrators brought Fifth Avenue to a standstill Wednesday night to protest Donald Trump being elected president of the United States.

Hundreds of protesters met at Union Square at 6 p.m. Another group of protesters met in Columbus Circle.
The two joined forces and by 8 p.m., the number of protesters grew to the thousands.

They carried rainbow flags and anti-Trump signs. One woman was seeing carrying a sign with photos of Trump and Adolf Hitler side by side saying “history is about to repeat.”

The protesters are now marching up Fifth Avenue to Trump Tower.

Celebrities took to social media to show support for protesters.

“Hamilton: The Musical” creator Lin-Manuel Miranda said he would be in Union Square with protesters if he wasn’t in Mexico.

City officials tweeted that traffic delays should be expected throughout Manhattan including Union Square, Times Square and Columbus Circle. Drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes.

The midtown protest was just one of several across the country.

Trump was elected the 45th president of the United States in a stunning victory against Democrat Hillary Clinton.
Clinton conceded in a phone call to Trump early Wednesday morning.

These protests are an excellent way to pay down our public debts. Let these people protest and get fined and arrested for standing where the law says they cannot. Clearly these people have nothing productive to do. The monies collected will ease the burden on us tax players, the ones who actually work and produce and contribute.
