Carson not interested in serving in Trump administration

By Ben Kamisar (http://thehill.com/author/ben-kamisar) - 11/15/16 10:30 AM EST

Retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson has told President-elect Donald Trump (http://thehill.com/people/donald-trump) that he isn't interested in serving as secretary of Health and Human Services, a Carson ally confirmed to The Hill on Tuesday.

Business manager and close friend Armstrong Williams said Carson won't join the incoming Trump administration and would only serve as an unofficial adviser.

Circa (http://circa.com/politics/government/ben-carson-to-be-named-to-trumps-cabinet-as-secretary-of-health-and-human-services) on Tuesday reported that Carson had been offered the position, citing Williams. But Williams told The Hill that no specific offer had been made.

"Dr. Carson was never offered a specific position, but everything was open to him," Williams told The Hill in a phone call.

"Dr. Carson feels he has no government experience, he's never run a federal agency. The last thing he would want to do was take a position that could cripple the presidency."

The renowned neurosurgeon was one of Trump's first primary opponents to jump on board his campaign. He was viewed as one of the likely picks to lead the agency that will work to roll back ObamaCare in the new administration.

Reports also pegged him as a candidate for secretary of Education.

Earlier this month, Trump described Carson as a "brilliant physician" and said he hoped Carson "will be very much involved with my administration."

But Williams said Carson would only advise the president-elect unofficially.

Carson has been looking for ways to be influential outside of government, including his My Faith Votes, a group that looks to motivate Christian voters.

Ben Carson is a Black man of integrity. He's also not stupid. As Trump cultists here demand of me - "give him a chance" - Carson may want to wait to see if the Trump Train derails - or switches completely to the System-Globalist route - before he'll commit to giving his good name to a Trump Administration.

Looks like it's real according to Carsons FB:

Dr. Ben Carson (https://www.facebook.com/realbencarson/?hc_ref=PAGES_TIMELINE&fref=nf)1 hr ·

My decision not to seek a cabinet position in the Trump administration has nothing to do with the complexity of the job as is being reported by some news outlets. I believe it is vitally important for the Trump administration to have many outspoken friends and advisers who are outside of the Washington bubble. It is vital to have independent voices of reason and reconciliation if our nation is to heal and regain its greatness. I will continue to work with the transition team and beyond as we build a dynamite executive branch of government.

I dont agree that he withdrew, just that he is retired. He can be an open trusted person of advice as an outsider which he would not be able to do as an insider. He also doesn;t have to deal with all the insider pressure this way but can still give his honest views. JMO.

That would be an insult...... offering him a position in a department that should be shut down.
