My old local pub I hung out with when I was younger had a sign behind the bar. It said "free drinks tomorrow". If you showed up the next day for free drinks, well they'd point to the sign and say free drinks tomorrow.

If you were dumb enough to come back the next day again, you became a local.

That bar actually has a very neat history. I've sat and enjoyed a beer at this very table in this picture, of my favorite author, Jack London from 1886.
