I didn't say "nothing happened". A few things happened. First, Trump and staff got to see what Romney would do if given the chance. They could look at his strategy and weigh whether he would be a necessary asset. Second, it was a closure meeting for Trump to be the boss and Romney to face up to being the loser. Third, it was a public image scene- both internally for the Repubs and externally. It is a total win situation for Trump.

All he could say was "far reaching discussion", in depth, detailed. In a job interview, a "far reaching discussion" is one that is beyond the reach of a reasonable fit. I know he used it in the context of international situations which implied the SoS position, but the words also give clues to mindset.

I just got the idea that possibly Trump is just trolling Romney with this. Effectively having Romney praising him now for his vision effectively neutralize him later on, when he doesn't give him the Secretary of State position, but the ambassadorship of China, Saudi Arabia or Mexico or another one of America's greatest trading partners.

Good, I want Trump in command. That's why I voted for him. I'm willing to wait until he's actually the POTUS to see how he's going to play out. In order to drain the swamp you have to get into it and get dirty. I don't care who he picks for his cabinet....those appointments are not permanent and one thing I know about Trump, he's not afraid of saying the words "You're fired"!
