Folks... watch for double crescent moons over the next few days. If it happens, you will think your eyes are just not focusing right. Not sure what causes it but I think it is a mirage next to the larger real image of the moon, caused by reflection and/or refraction at an outer atmospheric layer.

If you can snap a picture post it here. These are really hard to find on the internet. Get your cameras ready.

Ximmy- you might be able to see it tonight.

I would really love to see some pictures. The moon on the planet I reside is a sliver and going out of sight soon so no way of witnessing anything. Would be real cool to see real pictures and not crayon drawings to show the kid(s).

Couldn't get a real stabile mount to snap shots so there is movement on top of the double crescent.

the dark vertical lines in lower left are from tree branch- which shows you the pairs that were part of the same scan. The shift in that line shows the error of the moving camera.

Sadly, the pics don't do it justice...

I've watched off and on and it's clear as a bell this evening and cold. All I see is a single crescent. I like to drink a little whiskey in the evenings but this evening I didn't. Maybe that's why I'm not seeing a double crescent.
