Thought we might tease out some good ideas/recommendations for gifts...

I love LOVE my IR temp gun - use it almost every day, esp when cooking/grilling. Can pick them up for less than 50 bucks on ebay....cheaper models much less than that. I have a cheapo that I paid 20 something for. Good gift for chinese Christmas/white elephant or the cook -

PM - burnished silver eagles have really come down in price. Can get them in mint boxes for 28-50 bucks

dashcam -- some are down to 20 bucks

meat -- local meat market has some insanely good pork chops that are fully cooked and shrink wrapped. pack of 4 is 20 dollars...and worth every penny

reach down into your Christmas spirit and post your ideas on here :)**

Lifestraw Family 1.0. Just grabbed one for Black Friday. A gravity purifier for a family or small group based on the original. I have it as a backup to a General Ecology First Need unit. Great gift for everyone, especially those as-yet not prepared with the basics.

Neutral white LED flashlight offerings from illumn.com, goinggear.com, and a few other stores (including direct from manufacturer stores like fenixlighting.com). Both Nichia 219 and Cree offerings.

Strictly novelty use only, don't depend upon it for legal reasons or respectable YT video. You'll have to pay the money for a GoPro or Garmin unit if you want dependability and top quality.

You should do the moonlight test. I would consider your results impartial.

what is that?

Test the temp of moonlight and then shade. Moonlight is supposed to be cooler. Also do moonlight under magnifying glass.

Target Quicker: A built in Laser gives you the precision to hone in on the exact space you want to measure. Don’t blindly guess where you’re pointing your Infrared Thermometer

I got a cheap one a couple of years ago (for Christmas). I must admit I do not use it much. In my past work I used pretty high end thermal imaging systems. That is some awesome technology.

My wife is a great Italian chef. She's always complaining about the oil being to hot or something like that. She'll use the heck out of this because when it comes to cooking, she's a perfectionist and knowing EXACTLY what temperature that oil is will get her moist!!

Oil temperatures will be accurate. Shiny stainless of brushed aluminum will be way off not to be trusted. Black iron is probably ok. Anodized aluminum is not.

when my cheapo gun shows 300-340 on the alum pan it is a good time to put my eggs in there :)

another good use for the thing is to measure the temps of air/heating system flows (in and out). some of my air registers lose more temp than others...so poss leak or insulation probs. someday i'm going to do something about that
