Indeed it is an art, and most of what I do, nowadays, is due to intuition, of course I throw in an orthopedic or a neurological test just to confirm I am on the right track. In some cases at first visit, I have correctly diagnosed my new patient before they have walked from the waiting room. Probably in 80-90% cases I have the correct diagnose after talking to them for a few minutes, between 5-10% I am not sure about after the physical examination and looking at MR's or X-rays... About 90% (of those that I decide to accept as patients) will report well within the scope of my prognosis/recommendation (if they decide to follow it), most commonly I recommend a course between 4-12 sessions, depending on severity and duration of the presenting problem. 10% takes longer time, or they don't respond much, due to other problems/accidents or lifestyle choices, or an initial misdiagnosis.

Most people who come to me come with a biomechanical issue, which I can help with, a few have an overshadowing biomedical issue, where my actions would have very little impact on their quality of life, and thus I don't recommend them to come back, but instead seek medical intervention (drugs or surgery), or in some cases, just try and ignore the issue and continue living life with the problem, as well as you can, which have no realistic solution. In some cases it is best to say nothing re the hopelessness of their situation, because they still have great hope, and it keeps them going. But more often they have come to the conclusion there is no hope but the family members thinks there is, and thus they drag them to me. Those patients are usually leaving my office with a smile on their face, when I have told their family members there is no hope, and best is to learn and live with the issue.

Not much of a hunter really. Dad and brothers always try to get me to go deer hunting with them, but I find it boring to sit in a tree, virtually motionless, in the cold until dark. Besides I dont think I could kill a deer. It's much more rewarding to watch deer in their habitat than kill one.........but a fisherman is more like it.
