Tornado watches !
Hate them, twice a year, count your blessings if you live outside of tornado ally.
The only thing I hate worse are ice stormes!

Even more than the watch.......the warning alarm on the NOAA radio that my wife insists on having. Especially at night when I'm sleeping.
Last ice storm I remember was back in the early 80's. Looking for offshore work, drove from NWFL to Lafayette in one, only to get there and have to turn around.

Once, on a road trip drive through Kansas, we drove through a ice storm, in the middle of the night. It slowed us down and we lost a lot of time, but I'll never forget when I pulled in to the next gas station to fuel up, our entire car was glazed over with 1/2" or so of solid ice. I've never seen anything like it!

But I hate what they do to trees, last bad one here trees were falling all around me, the ground would shake and the thuds was both heard and felt in the feet..
Power was out for near a week.
Not fun.

Dam it, forcast possable ice/freezing rain tonight.. Not fun.
Seems abt every 10 years of so, the crap hits..
Good time to stay off the highways, because idiots here drive like when under good weather. And mostly because snow and such is mostly as rare as hens teeth, because we do not get this kind of weather every year.
Am expecting the worst and hopping for the best, new inverter, stubbed my toe on a huge aircraft battery (flooded cell nicad) I totally forgot that was out of the way , total forgot I had (out of sight out of mind for near 20 or so years) the sob, near near as good as it was new. By my load testing. So mostly I can run what is needed without cranking up the gen set and sticking out in this neighborhood like a sore thumb have enough battery that I can run my natural gas heater at least 24 hours without cranking any thing up to do a recharge. Added another 100 watts solar that I should see the panel today, mostly for general principles, solar system here is a work in progress, mainly for when I hit the road in the next year or so, working to be grid independent, tiny house or such.
I really really have nada here to hold me, so plan to sell and get the fuck out of dodge and spend the rest of my years on the road following my nose.

EN1 Harry Darling. He was the only enlisted man on base on a first name basis with the captain.
Or possibly the Lear of jet airplane fame. He named his daughter Chandra.
Or even a local foreman nicknamed "Bud" and last name "Fish". His real first name was Crayton (Cray).

Buried/snowed-in since Sunday night in North Tahoe (+6.5ft). Can't leave the house unless I put snowshoes on. Fire has been going 24/7. Endless snow shoveling. Yesterday afternoon/night was enjoyable without power due to Sierra cement. Makes you appreciate the simple things like a warm fire, shelter, water, and peanuts.
And now I get to deal with this:
10-15 feet of snow to bury California (http://www.usatoday.com/story/weather/2017/01/04/california-sierra-snow-south/96164874/)
