He is from New Jersey, lived in Alaska for some time but was carrying a Florida driving licence and had a concealed carry permit for his gun, it was reported.
According to reports, Santiago-Ruiz flew into Fort Lauderdale from Canada and his handgun was in his checked bag.
His itinerary is said to have begun in Alaska before a connecting flight in Canada.
On arrival in the baggage claim area he collected his luggage before going into the men’s toilet to take out the weapon, Broward Commisioner Chip LaMarca reportedly tweeted.
Santiago-Ruiz, said to be an army reservist and wearing a blue Star Wars T-shirt, then came out firing.
NBC News said he was born in March, 1990, and recently lived in Alaska.

About 90 minutes later, chaos broke out again when more gunshots were heard. Police officers were seen rushing into the parking garage with their guns drawn while bystanders sought shelter behind vehicles.
The TSA confirmed that there was another active shooter situation and issued an order to shelter in place.

Federal law enforcement sources said the suspected gunman in a deadly attack at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport got into an argument during his flight from Alaska to Florida.
They’re now investigating whether that’s what set off a shooting rampage that left 5 dead and 8 others wounded.
Esteban Santiago-Ruiz, 26, took a flight from Alaska to Florida Friday with a stop in Minnesota, officials said. Somewhere along the way, he got into an argument.

The gunman who attacked Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport on Friday was being prosecuted on charges of domestic violence, The Daily Beast has learned.
Esteban Santiago, 26, of Anchorage, Alaska, allegedly opened fire with a handgun at a baggage claim at the airport, killing five people and wounding eight others. After he ran out of bullets, witnesses reportedly said Santiago threw his gun to the ground and laid face down while he waited for officers. Santiago was taken into custody without incident.
According to charging documents provided by the Anchorage prosecutor’s office to The Daily Beast, on January 10, 2016, Santiago verbally assaulted his then girlfriend, a 40-year old mother of one child from a previous marriage whom The Daily Beast is not naming, through a locked bathroom door, telling her to “Get the fuck out, bitch.” After he forced his way in by breaking down the door, he smacked her in the head and strangled her. By the time police arrived, Santiago had fled the scene.
Santiago was arrested days later and released on the condition that he have no contact with the victim, but in February, Anchorage police found him at his girlfriend’s residence and he was charged for violating the conditions of his release. That case is still pending.
Alaska court records show a criminal record under Santiago’s name for minor traffic infractions including operating a vehicle without insurance and a broken taillight. Records also show his landlord evicted him for non-payment of rent in February 2015.
The assault case was resolved in March when Santiago entered into a deferred prosecution agreement, an alternative to adjudication where prosecutors agreed to dismiss the charges in exchange for Esteban’s completion of requirements, the details of which are unknown. Anchorage municipal prosecutor Seneca Theno told The Daily Beast that the charges are unlikely to be dropped now, considering Santiago’s alleged attack in Florida.

http://www.sltrib.com/home/4789389-155/veteran-who-said-the-government-was
Fort Lauderdale, Fla. • An Army veteran who complained that the government was controlling his mind drew a gun from his checked luggage on arrival at the Fort Lauderdale airport and opened fire in the baggage claim area Friday, killing five people and wounding eight, authorities said.
He was taken into custody after throwing his empty weapon down and lying spread-eagle on the ground, one witness said.
"People started kind of screaming and trying to get out of any door they could or hide under the chairs," the witness, Mark Lea, told MSNBC. "He just kind of continued coming in, just randomly shooting at people, no rhyme or reason to it."
The gunman was identified as 26-year-old Esteban Santiago of Anchorage, Alaska, who served in Iraq with the National Guard but was demoted and discharged last year for unsatisfactory performance. His brother said he had been receiving psychological treatment recently.
A law enforcement official told The Associated Press that Santiago had walked into the FBI office in Anchorage in November to say that the U.S. government was controlling his mind and making him watch Islamic State videos.
Agents questioned an agitated and disjointed-sounding Santiago and then called police, who took him for a mental health evaluation, according to the official, who was not authorized to discuss the case and spoke on condition of anonymity. The official said Santiago did not appear intent on hurting anyone.
Authorities said the motive for the attack was under investigation. Shortly after the shooting, and before details of Santiago's mental health became public, Sen. Bill Nelson of Florida said that it remained to be seen whether it was terrorism or the work of "someone who is mentally deranged."
One witness said the attacker gunned down his victims without a word and kept shooting until he ran out of ammunition for his handgun, sending panicked travelers running out of the terminal and spilling onto the tarmac, baggage in hand.
Others hid in bathroom stalls or crouched behind cars or anything else they could find as police and paramedics rushed in to help the wounded and establish whether there were any other gunmen.
Bruce Hugon, who had flown in from Indianapolis for a vacation, was at the baggage carousel when he heard four or five pops and saw everyone drop down on the ground. He said a woman next to him tried to get up and was shot in the head.
"The guy must have been standing over me at one point. I could smell the gunpowder," he said. "I thought I was about to feel a piercing pain or nothing at all because I would have been dead."
It is legal for airline passengers to travel with guns and ammunition as long as the firearms are put in a checked bag — not a carry-on — and are unloaded and locked in a hard-sided container. Guns must be declared to the airline at check-in.
Santiago arrived in Fort Lauderdale after taking off from Anchorage aboard a Delta flight Thursday night, checking only one piece of luggage — his gun, said Jesse Davis, police chief at the Anchorage airport.
At Fort Lauderdale, "after he claimed his bag, he went into the bathroom and loaded the gun and started shooting. We don't know why," said Chip LaMarca, a Broward County commissioner who was briefed by investigators.
The bloodshed is likely to raise questions of whether aviation safety officials need to change the rules.
The attack also exposed another weak point in airport security: While travelers have to take off their shoes, put their carry-on luggage through X-ray machines and pass through metal detectors to reach the gates, many other sections of airports, such as ticket counters and baggage claim areas, are more lightly secured and more vulnerable to attack.
In 2013, a gunman with a grudge against the Transportation Security Administration shot and killed one of the agency's screeners and wounded three others during a rampage at Los Angeles International Airport. Last November, an airline worker was shot and killed near an employee parking lot at Oklahoma City's airport, and in 2015 a machete-wielding man was shot to death after he attacked federal security officers at the New Orleans airport.
"While we have authorized doubling the number of TSA canine teams to try to prevent tragedies like this, the fact is that wherever there are crowds, such as at our airports, we remain vulnerable to these types of attacks," Nelson said.

Estaban Santiago, the 26-year-old airline passenger accused of shooting up a baggage claim area at the Ft. Lauderdale-Hollywood airport Friday, leaving five dead and eight injured, visited the FBI Anchorage field office and told officers he was being forced to watch ISIS videos, law enforcement sources told Fox News.
The visit took place last November. The sources said Santiago told agents that US intelligence had infiltrated his mind and were forcing him to watch ISIS propaganda videos.
"In November 2016, Esteban Santiago walked into the Anchorage FBI Field Office to report that his mind was being controlled by a U.S. intelligence agency,” a senior federal law enforcement official said.
“During the interview, Santiago appeared agitated and incoherent, and made disjointed statements. Although Santiago stated that he did not wish to harm anyone, as a result of his erratic behavior, interviewing agents contacted local authorities who took custody of Santiago and transported him to a local medical facility for evaluation. The FBI closed its assessment of Santiago after conducting database reviews, interagency checks, and interviews of his family members,” the official added.
Sources also told Fox that Santiago appeared agitated and incoherent during that interview, clearly indicating he was suffering from some kind of mental condition.
After the contact with Santiago, the FBI called local authorities who took custody of him and brought him to a local hospital for a welfare check.
His brother said he had been receiving psychological treatment recently, according to the Associated Press.
The sources also said the November interaction with Santiago prompted the FBI to open an investigation on him that led to interviews with family members, database checks and an interagency review. The sources told Fox that the FBI found no connections to foreign terror organizations.
At a late night news conference Friday, George Piro, special agent in charge of the FBI's Miami divison, said authorities were pursuing all leads and had not ruled out terrorism - or anything else.
Santiago's past has included a series of run-ins with the law in recent years.
Almost exactly a year ago, he was charged with fourth-degree assault and damage of property in Anchorage, Alaska where he lived from 2014 to 2016. One of the charges was dismissed by the local prosecutor two months later, according to records found by Foxnews.com.
Santiago was born in New Jersey and his family was originally from Puerto Rico--where he served in the Puerto Rico National Guard. He was in the Army Reserves prior to serving in the Alaska Army National Guard. According to reports, he was honorably discharged four months ago from his last post at Fort Greely, Arkansas, and his military rank at that time was E3 (Private First Class). He also has a concealed carry permit and had checked in his weapon prior to boarding.
Santiago’s aunt, who lives in Hudson County, New Jersey, spoke
with a reporters from local newspaper The Record of North Jersey on Friday evening.
“I don’t know why this happened,” Maria Ruiz said to
reporters at her home in Union City as FBI agents arrived. The distraught relative said that Santiago had served two years in Iraq and started acting strangely when he returned.
He also became a father in the past year and she told reporters that he “was happy with the kid.”
It was early Friday afternoon when the mayhem first broke out at Fort Lauderdale airport. Five people were shot dead after Santiago allegedly opened fire at a baggage claim area in Terminal Two. Witness and investigators said the suspect shot some of his victims in the head without saying a word.
In the ensuing panic, the TSA received two separate, unconfirmed reports of a separate active shooter, a law enforcement official close to the investigation told Fox News. However, Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel said Friday afternoon there was no indication any additional shots were fired.
Broward County Commissioner Chip La Marca posted on Facebook that Santiago was a “passenger on a Canadian flight with a checked gun. He claimed his bag and took the gun from baggage and went into the bathroom to load it. Came out shooting people in baggage claim. There were 13 total shot, 5 dead, 8 transported to hospital.”
Witnesses at the shooting scene told Fox News that the shooter was a slender man with dark hair, likely in his 30s and wearing a Star Wars t-shirt. It is believed that he boarded a plane in Anchorage last night and flew overnight to Fort Lauderdale.
Santiago was taken into custody without incident and was unhurt. Law enforcement never fired any shots, Israel said. "This scene is considered fluid and active." The sheriff said it was not clear why he chose to open fire.
"It was very surreal," John Schlicher, a witness, told Fox News. "He did not say a word.
"He was shooting people that were down on the ground, too."

FBI agents searched the Fairview home Friday where Santiago lived with his girlfriend and child. Agents and Anchorage police also went door to door at the Qupqugiaq Inn on 36th Avenue, where around 7 p.m. Friday they ordered guests and staff to evacuate their rooms. As the guests and staff mingled outside the inn and in its lobby, agents and police declined to say what connected the place to Santiago.
Police wrote down the tenants' names and evacuated them from the building. An Anchorage officer said police were providing security and she could not provide any other information.
Qupqugiak tenant Michael Pagliarella said police asked him to leave for four hours or longer. Pagliarella said the officers told him they "were not at liberty" to say what was happening. After an hour, law enforcement officers were the only ones left in the building.
Qupqugiak Inn general manager Chris Stephens said in a phone interview from Portland, Oregon, that hotel staff were "currently assisting the authorities with an investigation and unable to comment at this time."
Stephens declined to say what authorities were investigating. But the presence of city and federal officers escalated as the day wore on.
Two police squad cars were stationed outside the Midtown hotel Friday afternoon. By evening, another patrol car had arrived, along with an unmarked van towing a small trailer. A U.S. Department of Homeland Security truck was also stationed outside the inn.
Police officers on scene said they were assisting the FBI in an investigation but declined to answer questions. Alaska FBI spokeswoman Staci Feger-Pellessier said in a text message Friday night that the agents were in the middle of "an ongoing investigation." She said she could not comment further.
Santiago was reported to have suffered serious mental illness that might have been worsened by a military deployment to Iraq some six years ago. An FBI official in Florida said Santiago had turned himself in to the FBI in Anchorage last year, complaining that the CIA had taken control of his mind and was directing him to view ISIS material on the Internet. The FBI passed his name to Anchorage police, but what kind of treatment he received, if any, was not known.
The FBI office in Anchorage would only confirm that Santiago was the suspect in Florida.
"At this time, the Broward County Sheriff's office in Florida is the lead investigative agency in the shooting at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport," said Feger-Pellessier in Anchorage. "The FBI Anchorage Field Office is aware Esteban Santiago is an Anchorage resident. We are assisting in the investigation in any way we can and have no further statement at this time."

Initial reports said the shooter had arrived in Fort Lauderdale on a flight from Canada, but Reuters news agency reported that Canadian Embassy officials in Washington, D.C., said he was on a flight that originated in Anchorage and flew to Fort Lauderdale by way of Minneapolis. NBC quoted law enforcement officials as saying that he flew on Delta from Anchorage to Minneapolis, then caught another Delta flight to Fort Lauderdale.
Esteban Santiago lived at a small home in Fairview at 1310 1/2 Medfra St. in Anchorage. Anchorage police secured the scene there Friday while agents worked inside the home. (Marc Lester / Alaska Dispatch News)
On Friday afternoon, police were guarding the Fairview house, and an officer stopped a reporter from knocking on the door, saying agents were inside. Santiago's name was on a mailbox at the home, as was that of the girlfriend and another person with the last name of Santiago, perhaps his child. The FBI appeared to be searching the home.
Several FBI agents, one wearing rubber gloves and carrying a clipboard, emerged from the home around 3 p.m. after spending hours inside. They declined to answer questions.
Agents and police remained outside the home — a tiny square structure at the end of a row of small apartments with a small Puerto Rico flag in one window — into the evening. They wouldn't allow reporters to approach the door.
Santiago first appeared to be living in the home about a year ago along with a woman and two young children, said Pamela Van Dyke, who lives across the street with her two grandchildren. She said neighborhood children would play with the kids living in Santiago's home. But something about Santiago made Van Dyke uncomfortable, she said, and made her hesitant to let her own grandchildren play there.
"There was something not right," she said. "I could feel it."
Another neighbor, who declined to be identified, said people living in Santiago's house were quiet but "always busy at night," and had a large group of visitors on New Year's Eve. In the summer, the neighbor added, "the door was always open."
[Photos: Shooting in Fort Lauderdale airport leaves 5 dead]
NBC reported that the suspect had a military identification. NBC said that it interviewed Santiago's brother, Bryan, who said Santiago had a girlfriend and a child in Alaska. The brother said Santiago had received psychological counseling in Anchorage.
Lt. Col. Candis Olmstead, a spokeswoman for the Alaska Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, said Santiago was formerly a member of the Alaska Army National Guard. He received a general discharge Aug. 16, 2016, for unsatisfactory performance, Olmstead said.
Olmstead said Santiago joined the Puerto Rico National Guard on Dec. 14, 2007. He deployed to Iraq with the Puerto Rico guard from April 23, 2010, to Feb. 19, 2011. He joined the Alaska guard in 2014 from the Army reserves and served as a combat engineer at the National Guard Armory on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, reaching the rank of private first class, Olmstead said.
Santiago registered to vote in Alaska in 2014, giving a South Anchorage address at a trailer court off West Dimond Boulevard. He was the defendant in a 2015 eviction case filed by Weidner Investment Services and had several motor vehicle violations.
Santiago's landlord at the trailer park, Victor Hurtado, said Santiago lived there through November 2014. Santiago told Hurtado then that he was leaving to go into the military, which he said would pay for his housing and for college.
"He seemed like a nice guy. He was cool," said Hurtado, interviewed at the Midtown restaurant where he works. Hurtado said he only saw Santiago when he dropped off the rent every month but talked to him then.
Santiago originally came to Alaska with a brother, Hurtado said.
Santiago first rented the four-bedroom trailer from Hurtado's brother, who sold the trailer to Hurtado during 2014. Santiago took charge of the trailer and collected rent from other people living there, Hurtado said.
Santiago was still getting his mail at the trailer, Hurtado said. He didn't know why.

Reports say the guy arrived in Ft Lauderdale from an Alaskan flight routed through Minneapolis. Since I don't suppose he purchased the handgun at the airport it has been suggested that he brought the handgun with him in either his checkin bags or carryon. So where was the TSA security in Alaska? If they don't do anything then why bother with them?

It commemorates the 3 Maji (Wisemen) that followed the star to hear the news of the Messiah.
That "Star" is Sirius from the Orions belt.
It is mainly a Latin Holi Day - I think that statement is pretty blurred and no doubt will cause a lot of debate:
Wiki has different things to say about (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epiphany_(holiday))it. Lots of cultures celebrate. Some Jan 6, some Jan 7, some Jan 19
Florida is the most Latin Part of the USA?
Shooter is Latino?
January 7 marks the end of the chistmas period.
January 6 is actually the 12 and last day and I think is the day of the feast
7/1/2017 looks like 71
Three Kings = 71
Esteban Santiago = 71
Orion = 71
Story says: Shooter thinks he fired 15 bullets.
Why is that important? Why would they mention how many bullets he thinks he fired?
Fifteen = 38
Killing = 38
Death = 38
Florida = 38
Jewish = 38
Masonic = 38
FLL = 66
All those people running around on the tarmac. It looks like a drill more than anything.
NASA’s Voyager 2 heads for star Sirius... by time it arrives humans will have died out
Thu, Jan 5, 2017
Voyager 2, which was launched in August 1977 and is still functioning despite the mind-boggling distances and numbers involved, has set course for Sirius – the brightest star in the sky.
Astonishingly, even travelling at around 40,000mph it will take 296,000 years to reach Sirius.
Most experts believe mankind will have long since become extinct, or will have evolved into an entirely different species by that time.

A senior law enforcement official told ABC News that Santiago walked into the FBI's Anchorage field office in November last year after his discharge from the military and said he was under mind control by a U.S. intelligence agency.
The official said Santiago stated he didn't want to hurt anyone.
Still, the FBI contacted local law enforcement, which, out of caution, had him medically evaluated. The FBI closed the probe after reviewing databases and interviewing family, the official told ABC News.
A person who answered the phone for Signal 88 -- a company in Anchorage where Santiago worked in a security capacity -- told ABC News it has no comment and is "currently under the advisement of federal authorities."

The man suspected of shooting five people to death at the Fort Lauderdale airport Friday previously told the FBI he was being forced to fight for the Islamic State, according to CBS.
The suspect, Esteban Santiago, reportedly walked into the FBI field office in Anchorage, Alaska in November and told officials he was being forced to fight for the terrorist group. ISIS has not taken credit for the attack.

His brother, Bryan, told the Associated Press he was receiving psychological treatment. He questioned Saturday why his brother was allowed to keep his gun after U.S. authorities knew he’d become increasingly paranoid and was hearing voices.
When he told agents at an FBI field office his paranoid thoughts in November, he was evaluated for four days, then released without any follow-up medication or therapy.
“The FBI failed there,” Bryan Santiago told The Associated Press. “We’re not talking about someone who emerged from anonymity to do something like this.”
Speaking in Spanish outside his family’s house in Penuelas, the brother said: “The federal government already knew about this for months, they had been evaluating him for a while, but they didn’t do anything.”
