http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2017/01/27/officials-announce-proposal-that-would-establish-california-as-separate-nation.html
A proposal for California to secede from the United States was submitted to the Secretary of State’s Office Thursday.
The proposed “Calexit” initiative - its name borrowed from the UK's "Brexit" departure from the EU - would ask voters to repeal part of the state constitution that declares California an inseparable part of the U.S.
A recent poll found that one in three California residents would support a possible secession from the U.S. due to their opposition to President Trump. No mention has been made of the president in the proposal.
If the proposal qualifies for the ballot and is approved by voters, it could be a step to a future vote on whether the state would break away from the rest of the nation.
I'm not going to miss this shit after they're gone!!

I am very much in favor of this. When the leftist kooks in Excremento declare independence, we in the State of Jefferson will apply for admission to the Union. Like West Virginia did after Virginia seceded. We'll never gain statehood if we have to have Excremento's consent, and, if they secede, we won't need it.
Jerry Flush it Down Brown and Gavin Newscum are on a collision course with President Trump, and I'm actually looking forward to what happens. No, I'm not Trump's biggest fan, but I'll back him in any contest between the domestic enemies of my native state and Washington.

Does anyone else remember how back when Obama was elected and Texans were talking about seceding, all we heard from the liberal left was how they need to get behind our president, and "remember what happened the last time the south tried to secede" with threats of civil war? And now look at the bunch of losers, doing the same thing.

The only problem with this is, they will want back in once a Dem gains the White House.

LOL, Gavin Newscum is a very appropriate name. That guy cheated on his wife with the wife of a man who was in his own administration, while mayor of SF.

Why should Californians enjoy to visit the other states if they secede. Don't let the border wall hit you in the ass when we close it.

How long before they can hold this vote? Does it get bundled up in State elections? When are those?
I realise it is only the first step, to declare that the State can leave the union. Then they have to actually take that step. So it will take a while. How long before the process can get underway?
I just keep thinking of all the benefits this would bring to the US. Lower taxes, less regulation, lower national crime rate, less murders, less hollywood, less hipsters, less prius-i.
Of course it's a food basket state so there's some downside potential there.

Much Much federal funding is what you are looking for but won't get. With cali one of the most taxed states I can see another 15-25% in income tax. Things can get weird from there if you want the Mexicans. One side gets taxed 25% the other zero.
Good show I admit.

Rule #1 of survival...live where the food is.
http://www.slate.com/articles/health_and_science/explainer/2013/07/california_grows_all_of_our_fruits_and_vegetables_ what_would_we_eat_without.html
Expensive and grainy. California produces a sizable majority of many American fruits, vegetables, and nuts: 99 percent of artichokes, 99 percent of walnuts, 97 percent of kiwis, 97 percent of plums, 95 percent of celery, 95 percent of garlic, 89 percent of cauliflower, 71 percent of spinach, and 69 percent of carrots (and the list goes on and on). Some of this is due to climate and soil. No other state, or even a combination of states, can match California’s output per acre.
edit: Stop the food trucks from Mexico AND lose California's food supply...good luck with that.

No, that's rule #2, rule #1 is to be in harmony with one's environment.

Fair enough, being that harmony provides shelter. Food is actually #3, after #2, water.
California, on the local news right now, is going to go on strike with the fed gov. We only get 78 cents worth of services for ever dollar we send to .gov. So, it would be better for us to cut the fed gov off.

idea is to yes, cut them off. This will give the rest of the country to participate also.
Just like when I fired my whole workforce. They were saying I couldn't do that and I would fail in a month. Didn't happen, hurt for a couple weeks tho I will admit. After that the company prospered 2x what I was.

California is going nowhere. What might be going are the hordes of leftists in the urban areas that dominate my once paradisaical state. Think Reconstruction, and Trump in charge of it.
California cannot and will not be allowed to leave. It would be a strategic blow to America's west coast defenses, enabling China to establish a strong beachhead. Naval Base San Diego alone would prevent it. Further, California's key industries generate far more value than "we" (the state collectively) take from the Federal government.
I can see these pricks pushing this Calexit shit, and actually having a vote. The vote may or may not succeed. If it does, the kooks in Excremento could actually try to secede, depending upon just how far Trump goes with his protect America plans. Their delusions of racial equality and "social justice" befuddle them into failing to realize just what they'd be facing if they implemented it...but that hasn't stopped them from doing insane shit many times before. One of the most dangerous things for them would be millions of Californians, like me, who recognize we are stronger as Americans than as Mexifornians under Chinese hegemony...and will undermine any secession efforts by any means necessary, with the blessing of Washington.
Again, study what happened when Virginia seceded, and West(ern) Virginia said we're not going.

Doesn't congress or the states have to approve of the succession? California can't secede on its own I believe.

There is actually no explicit provision to secede at all. That was the trouble the CSA ran into. While I support the concept of secession under the Ninth & Tenth Amendments and the Declaration of Independence, those promoting it this time are not Americans seeking personal liberty, but domestic enemies working against both California and the United States in favor of Mexico, and possibly even China. The best scenario for a "legal" secession would be a 28th Amendment, and that would never pass.
Because the kooks in Excremento have no established legal authority to secede, that would enable the State of Jefferson to be formed from California's northern counties, without the consent of Excremento. We would have an alternative California government established in Redding, and then petition Congress to admit us, following the West Virginia model. Excremento will never allow us to form a new "conservative" state, so if this Calexit shit gets serious it may be beneficial in the long run.

If it came down to a vote, they probably would vote to leave. No argument from me, as long as we keep anything from Santa Barbara north. The coast line from there on has some of the most beautiful places on Earth, imo.

This is interesting: Which states give and get the most $$.
http://www.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2014/05/which-states-are-givers-and-which-are-takers/361668/
It's pretty clear that even though some states give more, the amount everyone is giving in toto is far less than the amount everyone is getting.

Don't know how valid the above is or how old. Is from a 2014 story. Other charts at link...e.g. state by state political alignment vs govt spend.
