American technology companies for years have relied on a steady stream of skilled engineers from overseas to help them create their products.

Now many of those companies and their workers are girding for expected changes to immigration policy under President Trump that the companies say could hurt their ability to tap the technical talent they need to stay competitive.

Mr. Trump, who has signed a series of executive orders related to immigration, is expected to soon take similar action on visa programs for foreign workers.

A draft of a proposed executive order on the matter was leaked this week. While it is not clear how the final order will look and the draft contains some changes many in the technology industry support, some language alarmed people in Silicon Valley.

The technology industry relies heavily on the H-1B visa program, through which highly skilled workers like software engineers are permitted to work in the United States for companies like Microsoft, Google and Intel.

The draft proposed a regulation to “restore the integrity of employment-based nonimmigrant worker programs” and to consider options for modifying the H-1B program to “ensure that beneficiaries of the program are the best and the brightest.”

That language rattled some executives and lawyers representing technology companies because of its implication of sweeping changes.

thanks for bringing this up. gives me the opportunity to repeat my view that foreign labor should get tariff just like imported goods. treat them the same.

no law against hiring them - just pay the toll

we have to end this skype arbitrage play if there is to be any hope of taking ground back against the skype onslaught

why aren't bankster jobs outsourced? why aren't corporate board jobs outsourced? shareholder value would explode by hiring some chinese/indian mba's instead of nyc skype. they outsource OUR jobs while not a peep about the big rocks that could be moved in the name of same 'shareholder value' crap they use to excuse gutting the US

I'm wondering if there are disclaimers on all these executive orders to prevent things from being tied up in the courts?

I think the idea was to get them into U.S. so that an Indian or Chinese Microsoft/Google did not emerge. At this point in Monopoly they are probably no longer required. Jews will dump them.

I never wish added tax on anyone, keep it to a sales tax everywhere, imo. add tax is death.

Just a standard disclaimer.

As for "tying it up in the courts," one must remember President Jackson's response when the SCOTUS declared something "unconstitutional": "(Chief Justice) John Marshall has made his decision; now let him enforce it!"

There is this silly and cowardly position that if a Federal "judge" issues an "order," it is the equivalent of God Almighty decreeing it. Nothing could be further from the case, especially when it's an inferior court (below SCOTUS). The Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches are equals; the latter is definitely not superior to the former, though it can be argued the second is first among equals.

Does Trump have the balls to tell a "judge" to go fuck himself? We shall see. What's that "judge" going to do, order Trump "arrested"? Good luck with that...my money's on the "judge" in chains first...or dead. So be it.

A similar conflict is going to occur when the den of treason in Excremento gets the Ninth Circus Court of Appeals in Sodomcisco to "invalidate" one of Trump's anti-sanctuary city orders. Trump will definitely ignore that. As he should.

Very good idea. If the "talent" overseas is really so superb, I'm sure the tech industry will be willing to pay the bucks for those exceptional individuals.

They go out of their way to make sure the Asians get a hold of American patents, then whine that they can't sufficiently take advantage of Asian labor.

tax as a weapon is the key weapon for jews to do just that.

best tax is minor sales tax flat across the boards, anything more is a weapon to level everyones ability to compete with "skype"

This is the H1B visa issue. A lot of Indian companies bring in Indian labor and undercut US IT graduates, and a lot of IT graduates are pissed. In fact a lot of Americans do not even want to get into IT because of it making a self fulfilling prophecy (we cannot find IT workers from the US [because of the depressed wages caused by cheap Indian labor] so therefor we need more H1B...). On the other hand in many cases, true specialists are brought in and paid very highly. The question is what is the ratio of abuse to proper use.

95% of the time, Americans do a better job than H-1Bs. There are a lot of smart foreigners, but the people here are just as dedicated, skilled, and intelligent.

The main reason they use them is not only lower pay, but because they can exploit them. If they get fired, they get sent back. So they can basically be forced to do whatever the company wants. Its total exploitation.

Uh, no. It means the (((Tech Industry))) will have to hire and retain more American IT workers.

If (((they))) could have outsourced such jobs to India, they'd have already done it long ago. No, they need the workers here, hence, H-1Bs.

aint gonna fly, to press many tech items you need indigenous feet from the ground in those areas.

Joe IT from Beaver Falls isn't going to commute.

Jews will handle it though, thanks Don!

I work for one of the largest tech titans, and I see it first hand. They'll keep positions posted in order to keep hiring H1-Bs, even when they aren't really hiring. They'll go through the motions of interviewing people (the interviews I'll admit are brutal, you really have to know what you are doing or you get weeded out immediately.), But do not hire anyone. In my position there are a lot of government contracts that require U.S. nationals to work and cannot be outsourced. So I guess I have that going for me.

skilled engineers???

not so skilled because they're enabling AI who will terminate their jobs. Meanwhile where are the whisleblowers making the MSM and warning us about technocracy Too busy to chase their paychecks. Right.

Just as scientists working on vaccines to doom us all.

I am sick an tired of the skewed value given to the word "success". It is the mother of all traps.

It's yet to be determined just who is who is among the "refugees" and immigrants. When we know who are good people, then, yes, let them come in. "Innocent until success in mass murder" is insane.

The (((Tech Industry))) is in grave fear of two things: a brake on their huge profits, and, a monkeywrench for their "globalist" delusions. "Human rights" is of no concern of theirs, as crApple's history shows (FoxConn, anyone?).

Obama and Hillary were always able to pull their mass murder off through proxy ISIS

If you think the innocent MossadCIA does not have a finger on every single known or possible terrorist suspect, you're completely in the dark. (They create 99%)

The entire Muslim immigration facade is to facilitate the propping up of Israel as intermediary goto brain and a reduction of U.S. prowess on the globe.

The net effect will be to stretch current possible targets to the other side of the Atlantic for "terrsts".
