Britain’s departure from the EU moved a step closer on Wednesday evening, when MPs voted overwhelmingly in favor of the government’s Brexit bill, by 498 to 114 votes.

After two days of debate, MPs voted to push the European Union (Notification of Withdrawal) Bill through to the next stage. After the bill fully clears parliament, Prime Minister Theresa May can trigger Article 50 and begin formal negotiations with the EU.

The bill, which was deliberately tightly worded to limit the ability of MPs to amend it, was put forward by May’s government after it lost a Supreme Court case earlier this month on whether she had the power to trigger a breakaway from the EU without consulting parliament.

In an earlier vote, MPs voted against an amendment calling for Article 50 legislation to be abandoned, by 336 votes to 100.

George Osborne, the Remain Conservative chancellor during the Brexit referendum, warned MPs against blocking the bill, saying it would risk “putting parliament against people.” He said for parliament to prevent Article 50 from being invoked would “alienate people who already feel alienated.”

He predicted that talks with the EU will be bitter and involve a trade-off between “access and money.”

So roughly a quarter of Labour MPs rebelled against Jeremy Corbyn's order for them to back the Govt's Brexit bill. (47-149)

498 MPs vote for the Brexit bill and 114 against - that is a sizeable Labour rebellion

Hmmm 14 more MPs vote against 2R of #brexitbill - keen to find out who they are

Former Labour leader Ed Miliband described the vote on the government’s bill as a “fateful moment in the country’s history.” He confirmed he would be honoring the country’s mandate and voting for the Bill.

“We do not want to give the sense that people having voted for Brexit because they felt ignored, are being ignored once again,” he said. Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn ordered his MPs to back the government’s bill.

Yes - because UKIP was the only party with the bottle to fight for an independent UK before it became fashionable. https://t.co/JwcmMOkCWi

Watching House of Commons vote on Brexit Bill. Like watching someone start a car knowing it's gonna have an accident.

The final vote on Article 50 will be held in the House of Commons next Wednesday after three days of debate.

It has been confirmed that May’s White Paper containing her Brexit plan will be published on Thursday.

The government remains confident that the bill will complete its passage through parliament, including the House of Lords, in time for May to meet her May 31 deadline for invoking Article 50.

Big respect for the Labour MPs who voted against their party whip - they'll be proved to be on the right side of history #Brexithttps://t.co/0wB3z8Fk10

The Romans must have acted the same toward the Visigoths.

Later they became Holy Romans.

Do you think Brexit is a bad idea Fred?

You should know the answer to that already.

The EUSSR is worse than the USSR, since the raison d'tre of the EUSSR is the genocide of the White race. As bad as the Jewish USSR was, the EUSSR is actually going to accomplish it (unless stopped soon).

I think it was them that started the movement for Brexit actually, due to increasing EU insight and interference into the financial industry, they felt threatened. Then Cameron negotiated with the EU, and managed to get some concessions for the city of London, to get them to support remain. Maybe it wasn't enough or they felt it was all on shaky grounds over time.

There sure was many bagholders post-election, who betted on the GBP strengthening following a remain vote. Some obviously made Billions on Brexit, on the opposite side of the bagholders.

The situation is interesting. The ECB doesn't have the same capabilities when it comes to monetizing that the BoE has. It is clear that the UK still having it's own currency was a significant saving grace for them. It ensured that the EU could not off load the bad debts of the Mediterranean countries on to the UK. This really only left them (ECB) with Germany as a dumping ground. I would like to see Germany cut the EU loose. Then it would be over for sure.

The EU was sold as an economic union but it became intent on political union. Of course we all know that was the original purpose, it was just sold as an Economic union.

I guess it's good news on the passing of the bill so resoundingly. I expected more fighting. The bi partisan unity gets the spidey senses working though. I don't know what the bill says and the devil is always buried somewhere in the details. I wonder what trickery they have hidden away.

it is not for the people, the NWO wants to create an enclave that will not be too much affected by the collapse of EU.

((They)) are just thinking far ahead as usual.

Why would you suddenly quit as PM of UK? Do you remember when you could put lipstick on a pig and call it a pig? Or does it suddenly become a weekend at Porky's? Best (Br)exit stage left then.
