A convenience store is disputing a new documentary's claims that surveillance video suggests Michael Brown didn't rob the store before he was fatally shot by police in Ferguson, Missouri, in 2014.

Filmmaker Jason Pollock tells The New York Times he believes the previously unreleased footage shows Brown trading a small amount of marijuana for a bag of cigarillos around 1 a.m. on Aug. 9, 2014. Pollock reasons Brown intended to come back later for the cigarillos.

An attorney for the store and its employees says no such transaction took place.

Store co-owner Andy Patel tells the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that Brown "grabbed the cigarillos and stole them" when confronted inside the store about 10 hours later, shortly before the shooting. Surveillance video shows Brown strong-arming Patel while leaving the store.

About 100 people gathered to protest outside the market Sunday night. Several gunshots were fired nearby shortly before midnight.

A Bellefontaine Neighbors man was charged Monday with trying to light a St. Louis County police car on fire during the protest. And a woman was charged with punching a Ferguson police officer in the face, breaking his nose.

In the first case, police say Henry L. Stokes, 45, of the 1500 block of Haviland Drive, was charged with felony counts of attempting to cause catastrophe and resisting arrest. Bail was set at $25,000.

During the protest, police say Stokes stuffed a napkin in the gas tank opening of a St. Louis County police car and tried to ignite it with a cigarette lighter.

Officers tried to stop him, chased him and arrested him.

In the second case, police say Alecia Rhone, 25, of the 3500 Dehart Place near St. Ann, punched a Ferguson police officer in the face. She was charged with third-degree assault and resisting arrest. Her bail was set at $15,000.

Chief Delrish Moss said the attack on the officer occurred as the officer was trying to arrest a man on the parking lot around 10 p.m.

Court documents reveal that the cop who killed Michael Brown used the n-word

Darren Wilson, the former Ferguson police officer who killed Michael Brown in August 2014, referred to black people as “niggers” when talking with his fellow officers, according to court documents first reported Tuesday by The Washington Post.

But Wilson’s attorney told the Post that he only used the word in the context of repeating witness accounts given during police investigations. The court filing was added to the docket Dec. 28 in the civil lawsuit brought by Brown’s parents against Wilson.

As the newspaper reports:


Asked if he has made a racist remark while on-duty as an officer, Wilson responded through his attorney that ‘I have repeated a racist remark made by someone else, but I have not made a racist remark against another individual while on duty as a police officer.’

The next two statements address whether Wilson had ever used the word n-word to refer to African Americans and if he has heard fellow Ferguson police officers doing so. In both cases, Wilson replied through his attorney, ‘Admitted.’

In an email to the Post, Wilson’s attorney, Greg Kloeppel, said his client “never used the n-word to refer to an African American in a racist or derogatory manner and he never repeated a racist joke while on duty.”

“Officer Wilson did admit in discovery responses that he used the n-word and has heard former officer(s) use the n-word on at least one occasion but, he did so while repeating/reporting what a victim, witness or suspect etc., relayed to him while conducting an investigation or preparing a report,” Kloeppel said.
