Anthony Weiner is facing hard time — unless his lawyers can strike a good deal.

Attorneys for the disgraced former congressman are trying to talk prosecutors out of going forward with child pornography charges that could land Weiner behind bars for at least 15 years, according to The Wall Street Journal.

The charges stem from sexually explicit messages and images he allegedly exchanged with a 15-year-old girl.

Sources told the newspaper that Weiner’s lawyers have been in talks with federal prosecutors for weeks, angling for a plea deal. But officials from the U.S. attorney’s office in Manhattan and FBI agents have not backed off.

The most serious charge, production of child pornography, carries a 15-year mandatory minimum sentence. But The Journal said prosecutors are considering other charges that include receipt of child pornography, which carries a minimum five-year sentence.

A North Carolina teen came forward last year to say that Weiner, 52, had been exchanging explicit messages with her.

The investigation uncovered emails on his laptop that were sent by his estranged wife.

The files briefly prompted FBI Director James Comey to reopen an investigation into Clinton’s emails out of concern the shared computer might have had classified documents.

Comey quickly closed the case without any charges, but Democrats said the attention might have contributed to President Trump’s win.

Common sense seems to escape Hillary Clinton’s former traveling chief of staff Huma Abedin as she reportedly is giving her marriage with Anthony Weiner, the sad, sexting congressman, another go.

Like a good boy, Weiner does what’s asked of him and is apparently having to be on his P’s and Q’s at all times. The reason for the breakup originally stemmed from pressure coming from within the Clinton camp, the image had to be squeaky clean during the election but coupled with Hillary’s many faux pas, the Abedin-Weiner crisis seemed unavoidable.

Despite this, both Abedin’s and Weiner’s families hope for reconciliation – how could they though considering the many times Weiner has betrayed his wife and family?

Weiner’s 2013 mayoral race came with another wave of sexts and images, which came to light through Weiner’s alias “Carlos Danger”. Despite the new revelations, “Danger” decided to keep on with his race and locked in only 4.9% of the votes.

Judicial Watch also will be seeking answers as to the timing of the release of Clinton’s emails that were recovered by the FBI in its investigation of the server used by Clinton and others.

Just when you thought Huma Abedin finally had enough, the Hillary Clinton aide has invited her admitted sex offender hubby back home again, The Post has learned.

Anthony Weiner’s long-suffering wife filed for divorce earlier this month (http://nypost.com/2017/05/19/huma-abedin-finally-files-for-divorce-from-anthony-weiner/), the same day the disgraced ex-congressman pleaded guilty to sexting with a 15-year-old girl (http://nypost.com/2017/05/19/anthony-weiner-sobs-to-judge-i-have-a-sickness-but-i-do-not-have-an-excuse/).But Abedin has since renewed the lease on their pricey Union Square duplex — and invited back home the man who has repeatedly heaped humiliation upon her, sources told The Post.

The luxury three-bedroom, 1,500-square-foot pad at 1 Irving Place features an “expansive, panoramic view of Union Square Park and the midtown skyline,” according to a Corcoran listing.

The sext-crazed pol, who had been sleeping on his mother’s couch in Park Slope, was to move out Tuesday, a source said.

“He was supposed to move,” the building source explained. “But they just signed for another year.”
Another source said, “She still hasn’t served him with the divorce papers.”

Weiner, who will have to register as a sex offender as part of the plea deal with the Manhattan US Attorney’s Office, was spotted Tuesday at about 9 a.m. strolling out of the building with his and Abedin’s 5-year-old son.

A pal of the couple said Weiner has been the primary caretaker for the boy, especially while Abedin worked on Clinton’s failed presidential bid.

It’s unclear whether Abedin, 41, is on the $11,900-a-month lease alone or signed with Weiner, who is scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 8.

Brokers could not discuss the leasing arrangement because they signed a strict nondisclosure agreement. “We are really worried about this one,” a broker said. “This is a very sensitive rental.”

But Weiner, 52, who pleaded guilty May 19 to one count of transferring obscene material to a minor, may not be around much after Labor Day. “I have a sickness but I do not have an excuse,” he told federal Judge Loretta Preska between sobs. “I knew that was morally wrong.” Abedin was not in the courtroom.

Weiner’s creepy behavior may have even played a role in the 2016 presidential election. The FBI opened an inquiry into Weiner’s conduct in September and seized his laptop and phones, leading the feds to realize some of Clinton’s emails were on his computer. Then-FBI Director James Comey told Congress he would reopen an investigation into Clinton’s private email server two weeks before the election as a result.

Weiner has long been plagued by a weakness for sexually charged cyber correspondence. The Post reported in August 2016 that he was still sexting women, prompting his wife to announce their separation.

He had texted a crotch shot to a West Coast mom that included his then-3-year-old in bed next to him.
He entered outpatient therapy for sex addiction in Tennessee last fall, where a Post reporter and photographer spotted him riding a horse as part of his treatment.

The Weiner sexting scandal began in 2011 when the then-up-and-coming congressman accidentally tweeted a picture of his bulging member out to the public and then claimed his account had been hacked. Eventually, he came clean and resigned from office.

He tried to revive his political career in 2013, running for New York mayor. But the campaign was quickly derailed when 22-year-old Syndey Leathers came forward with proof of their online relationship. Revelations of other online sexting partners soon followed.

Abedin and Weiner didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment.

The humiliated Hillary Clinton aide delayed the first hearing in her divorce from sext-offender hubby Anthony Weiner (http://nypost.com/2017/05/19/huma-abedin-finally-files-for-divorce-from-anthony-weiner/), set for June 19 — until five days after his sentencing for exchanging lewd online messages with an underage girl (http://nypost.com/2017/05/19/anthony-weiner-will-plead-guilty-to-sexting-with-a-15-year-old-girl/).He is likely going to get 1-to-3 years in federal prison and divorce experts say Abedin’s delay is a ploy to gain leverage in the breakup.

“You would do that to get a better landscape of what his both financial future is and what would be the access schedule for the child,” said Manhattan divorce lawyer Susan Moss.

Another matrimonial attorney, Bernard Clair, agreed, saying Weiner might want alternate weekends or 50-50 custody of their 5-year-old Jordan, which would be an impossibility if he was in prison.

“The sentencing is extremely important as to custodial and pragmatic factors regarding parenting. How can you resolve custody if you don’t know whether or not the father is going to be incarcerated?” Clair said.
The same line of reasoning seems to apply to Abedin, 41, holding off on inking a book deal. She has reportedly been seeking $2 million for a memoir (http://nypost.com/2017/04/14/huma-abedin-wants-2m-for-a-tell-all-memoir/), but will want to wait until the divorce proceeds to avoid having to share any of the proceeds with Weiner, 52.

“I think it’s a smart thing to do,” said family law expert Bonnie Rabin.

“Your earnings become your own when you’re no longer married,” Rabin explained.

But, Rabin said, Weiner could still make a grab for Abedin’s memoir money.“He can make an argument that it’s based on the part of their life that occurred during their marriage,” Rabin said.

Weiner still hasn’t hired a divorce attorney, records show, even though Abedin filed for a contested proceeding meaning she’s expecting a battle over their son or their finances.

Of course, the divorce delay could also mean Abedin is having second, or in the case, third, thoughts about dissolving her marriage.

The Post has exclusively reported that Abedin invited her husband (http://nypost.com/2017/05/30/huma-abedin-has-invited-anthony-weiner-back-home/) back into their Union Square duplex last month and has yet to serve him with divorce papers, according to sources.

She filed for divorce on May 19, the same day the ex-congressman pleaded guilty to sending lurid messages to a North Carolina teenager.

The new divorce hearing is set for Sept. 13. The sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 8.
