zombie (n.)
1871, of West African origin (compare Kikongo zumbi "fetish;" Kimbundu nzambi "god"), originally the name of a snake god, later with meaning "reanimated corpse" in voodoo cult. But perhaps also from Louisiana creole word meaning "phantom, ghost," from Spanish sombra "shade, ghost." Sense "slow-witted person" is recorded from 1936.

The Centers for Disease Control has a webpage up regarding the Zombie Apocalypse, so zombies are definitely recognized by the state as real, since being a public official for the state is VERY serious business with no place for levity while spending taxpayers' money.

I assert that zombies are primarily the result of bad chemicals in folks' heads due to the offerings of Big Pharma.

Chemicals aside ... being a taxpayer is evidence of Zombie status. I expect the State of Illinois leans toward classified home-schooled 12 year olds as of the Zombie persuasion. Most Republicans will qualify as well or even if you simply choose to reason.
