I just learned from watching the following video that my hero, John Wayne, was a 33rd Degree Freemason, and to top it off, he was given his Masonic apron by another favorite conservative, Senator Barry Goldwater.

dach, you are not alone. i once played in an 'over the line' tournament in san diego. a beach game tournament composed of teams with outrageous team names....cuss words, xxx stuff, etc. there were probably 100ish teams in the tournament.

there was only one rule for naming your team - it could not disparage john wayne :)

Thank you, Jewboo, for a positive word about John Wayne. He did embody America and American values. Some people say the reason some of us hold on to patriotic feelings about our USA country is just purely sentimental reasons, like this is where we were born and where our family and loved ones are and where we have had a good life. And I do see the ugly side of "nationalism" or extreme nationalism like in Germany. But still I believe our USA Constitution and way it was set up and meant to operate was pretty darn good and I long for a return to order, that kind of order.

He did work to keep the movie industry clean up until about 1960 when the main movie writers and producers crossed the line and started putting out the cultural Marxist filth unrestrained. It was around 1960 when his movies got bad, lots of killing and violence and sex, with perhaps the exception of his own BatJac productions. I think it is ALMOST impossible for a person to not be taken over by that whole ugly Hollywood millieu.

I think many were praying for him and I hope he received mercy from the Lord as I have heard he did make a confession in his last days.

Wayne was a class act and a very private man. His talent was his uniqueness. He wasn't a great actor, he was better than that. He was John Wayne!!

PLAYBOY: Angela Davis claims that those who would revoke her teaching credentials on ideological grounds are actually discriminating against her because she's black. Do you think there's any truth in that?
WAYNE: With a lot of blacks, there's quite a bit of resentment along with their dissent, and possibly rightfully so. But we can't all of a sudden get down on our knees and turn everything over to the leadership of the blacks. I believe in white supremacy until the blacks are educated to a point of responsibility. I don't believe in giving authority and positions of leadership and judgment to irresponsible people.

PLAYBOY: Are you equipped to judge which blacks are irresponsible and which of their leaders inexperienced?
WAYNE: It's not my judgment. The academic community has developed certain tests that determine whether the blacks are sufficiently equipped scholastically. But some blacks have tried to force the issue and enter college when they haven't passed the tests and don't have the requisite background.
