I don't know what to predict. If Putin is for real, a "response" of belligerent nature is absolutely required. If, however, Putin is just another tool, as Trump, meaningless noises may be all that happen. However, even if he is a mere tool, it sure looks like "the time" for another one is here. 72 years is a large span of time.

Russia's national interests are clearly in favor of President Assad remaining in power. If Assad falls, ISIS takes over. Everyone knows that.

Will Trump stop at this one load-blow, or keep it up? If the latter, Russians are going to "get in the way."

I do not believe Putin has "designs" on the Baltics or Poland, but, if pushed, I could see a Blitzkrieg into the Baltics and/or Poland as retaliation, as well as neutralization of the anti-Russia "ballistic missile defense" system in Eastern Europe. Is America/NATO willing to risk a nuclear exchange? God knows. Satan might be wringing his hands in glee, though.
