A British collector, Nick Mead, collects old military machines. He bought a Soviet made T-54 tank on EBay for about the equvalent of $37000.00 USD. He and a mechanic found gold hidden in the fuel tank.

He told the press that when he and a mechanic were disarming the tank and making sure there were no explosive materials in it they encounterd 5 5 Kilo gold ingots inside the fuel tank.

They didn't know what to do so they called the cops. The cops consficated the gold and took it to London.

The collector believed the tank was used by Iraq in Kuwait during the Gulf War.

No no, you turn it in to the proper authorities and let them do what's right. Would they lie???

Well I think this just proves that the US and UK were right to invade Iraq. Saddam was clearly stealing everything that wasn't bolted down. Including Kuwait's black and yellow gold. Such a coincidence a story like this comes out right about now.

I assume that tank had more than one fuel tank. Looks like it has 4 of those fuel tanks. Possibly 6.

Good friggin' night, why does this sort of thing always happen to idiots who are all too happy to just give their good fortune away? Whaddaya mean they didn't know what to do? What you do is keep your mouth shut and enjoy your good luck!

What you do is send your mechanic mate on an errand and crack it open when he's gone. Get a shovel. Do some gardening. Then pony up a pile of rocks or some other BS and say, geez... all I found was these rocks. I wonder why they put those in there? Crazy Arabs.

What you describe takes a certain degree of intelligence rarely found in the US or the UK

I guess demand for T54 tanks might be on the rise.

Sounds like the plot from a movie.

From the comments in the video about this incident there were too many witnesses not to call the authorites. I am curious what will be the final disposition of the gold. Speclation is the Iraqi tank crew soldiers stole the gold bars in Kuwait then hid them in the fuel tank.

That is my belief as well. It is impossible ro know who stole it or from whom. The it was in the tank when the man purchased it so it should be his unless there is absolute proof who it was stolen from.

From the Sun Article

Instead, they discovered the gold, which they believe was looted by Iraqi soldiers in Kuwait during the Gulf War.The tank was later captured and shipped to Britain.
Nick said: “They must have cut a hole in the fuel tank and rammed it full of gold bars.”
After calling police, two officers took away the bars and gave them a receipt.
