It wasn't a matter of 'overbooking' it was a matter of some United supervisor deciding that he or she (probably a she) would remove a passenger who paid for a seat in order to transport another United employee to another location (the claim is that the employee was being transported to be available at another location although it could have actually been a United employee flying 'standby').

I just love United's statement on the matter. lol

ETA: the victim was 69 y.o. in some jurisdictions such an assault would be considered abuse of the elderly.

I haven't flown since before 9/11. And never will again.

But if I was on that flight, there's no way I wouldn't have gotten my head bashed in, as well, since I couldn't have just sat there and simply watched that shit.

I've been reading the comments at ZH and a disappointing number (more than 1) of people think this is ok.

Apparently United A-holes has a term and condition that says you can be forced to volunteer to get off if they need the seat.

The specifics seems to be that it applies only if you are denied boarding. Once boarded there doesn't seem to be that condition.

What ever happened to Airline staff using the Jump seats to get from port to port? They have union conditions of a passenger seat now or something? I don't know if these domestic planes have crew cribs/bunks or not. I'm guessing not. Unfamiliar with what size they are.

Hope the guy sues. Hope his patients don't suffer. Hope the airline does. Very bad juju.

dont know but considering 1 passenger as "overbooking" doesnt add up. Every time I get into a plane, I see 2 or more attendants seats empty because plane crews are limited, especially on national flights

if he ever sues, he will win the case.

I finally heard that there were 4 passengers removed after the media showed the same video repetitively all day. A talking head for some group stated that they randomly selected when no one volunteered. (Seating chart on wall and throw darts).

I suggest that they put some extra "D-rings" on the floor and carry extra sets of seat belts for just this type event. Let crew fly sitting on the floor. Probably less than than an hour from Chicago to Louisville.

Or rent a car on the companies dime and just have them drive it. It'll take about 8 hours give or take from Chicago to Louisville. Instead they've already cost themselves over 500 million in market capitalization due to share prices plunging.

It will cost United much more then that before all losses are totaled. I'd be willing to bet the person that made that dumb call was a liberal that voted Hillary. Incapable of reasoning.
They could have rented the Trump jet to fly the 4 staff members and saved a boatload of money.

Agreed! Especially since once you bought a ticket in your name, you can't change it into another name or change to another flight easily.

You should not overbook a plane.

Jayse D Anspach, who posted footage that went viral, tweeted: "#United overbooked and wanted four of us to volunteer to give up our seats for personnel that needed to be at work the next day."
"No one volunteered, so United decided to choose for us. They chose an Asian doctor and his wife."

"The doctor needed to work at the hospital the next day, so he refused to volunteer," Mr Anspach added.

"Ten minutes later, the doctor runs back into the plane with a bloody face, clings to a post in the back, chanting, "I need to go home."

A video that appears to show the man back on the plane, dazed and with blood around his mouth, saying "just kill me", has also emerged online.

Fuck this "contract" shit. Corporations hide behind "contracts" routinely, and get away with it. They sell you a seat, and then claim they can do what they want based on 20 pages of 2-point font "terms & conditions." That is purely the product of Kike corporate shysters.

Jewnited Airlines could have offered $2000, a first-class seat, and a hotel, and surely people would have taken it. But they Kiked out at $800, and moved to brute force.

How to Avoid Getting Bumped from a Flight

If you have obligations in your destination city and absolutely cannot afford to be bumped from a flight, arrive as early as possible at the airport, especially if you're taking a popular route. Better yet, check in online before you even leave for the airport. The last passengers to check in for the flight are typically the ones who find themselves bumped involuntarily. If you're at the gate before the majority of the passengers have checked in, your chances of retaining your original reservation are favorable.

U.S. Department of Transportation statistics show that on average, fewer than one of every 10,000 airline passengers is bumped involuntarily. This number often increases over the holidays and other busy travel seasons, but the volunteer system does in fact work very well, and it is unlikely you will be denied boarding on your next trip.

Two Middle Eastern airlines are trying to make the most of United Airlines’ (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/topic/united-airlines)recent incident.

Shortly after videos and pictures surfaced of a man being violently dragged off (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/united-air-flight-video-man-dragged_us_58eb79b3e4b058f0a0309da4?utm_hp_ref=uni ted-airlines) of a United Airlines flight, Royal Jordanian airlines attempted to seize the moment with a tweet.

“We are here to keep you #united Dragging here is strictly prohibited,” the tweet said. Unfortunately, the airline didn’t stop there and attempted to fit another bad pun into the graphic accompanying the tweet.

“We would like to remind you that drags on our flights are strictly prohibited by passengers and crew,” the text on a graphic read, accompanied by a “no smoking” graphic. In this case, no “drags” meant “no cigarettes.”

But TMZis also reporting that the doctor has been convicted of multiple drug offenses, including exchanging drugs for sex.

Dao was charged in 2005 with 98 felony drug counts for illegally prescribing and trafficking painkillers. Prosecutors claimed he fraudulently filled prescriptions for hydocodone, Oxycontin and Percocet.

Dr. Dao was also convicted on six felony counts of obtaining drugs by fraud and deceit and in 2005 was given five years probation. Additionally, he was convicted for writing prescriptions and checks to a patient in exchange for sex.
