Rival presidential contenders, Jewish groups and the Israeli foreign ministry condemned the remark by the Front National leader (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/04/08/marine-le-pen-rally-corsica-moved-following-violent-clashes/), who has moderated the party’s tone and sought to have her father, Jean-Marie Le Pen, expelled over anti-Semitic remarks.
“I think France isn’t responsible for the Vel d’Hiv,” Ms Le Pen said, referring to the German-ordered detention of more than 13,000 Jews at the Vélodrome d’Hiver cycling stadium in Paris, colloquially known as the ‘Vel d’Hiv’, in 1942.
