I don't think anyone has ever seriously claimed that.

The issue is who - or what - owns the food. If the "agricorporations" and the commodities speculators can't make billions in profit, they'd rather let the food rot or even actively destroy it, to avoid giving it away to hungry people.

I was raised by an agriculture-oriented family, and we believe(d) wasting food was a sin. But in the Judeo-Capitalist system, if you "own" it you are free to waste as much as you can afford.
