Shouldering an AR pistol equipped with an arm brace does not constitute a 'redesign' of the pistol's intended use -

What does the SIG brace do?

What does the SIG brace do?

The concept is to allow the disabled to have a means to shoot the AR pistol with one hand (slipping their arm through the brace and tightening down the strap on the brace). The inspiration came from a situation where a one armed sandbox vet wasn't being allowed to shoot at a range because the rangemaster said he was unable to control his AR pistol with only one hand. When people realized the Sig brace facilitated shouldering the pistol the idea took off (as in "now I've got a SBR without having to get a tax stamp!") until BATFE changed their collective mind about whether or not an arm brace constituted a 'redesign into a SBR'. Sig originally developed the arm brace concept so that's why it's often called a Sig brace. SB Tactical makes the Sig brace and they came out with the SBM4 version which looks just like a buttstock. In practice the arm brace is pretty worthless as an arm brace but makes for a very comfortable use otherwise.

So basically it allows someone to use an AR inside of close quarters in a tactical scenario?

Yeah, and have a PDW (personal defense weapon) in general.
