So is the public going to cry out to end the NSA required backdoor that is used to spy on everyone. The terrorists attacked us on 5-12, so the "liberties" of the NSA need to be cut back significantly. Do it for "the children". It will be a real Patriot Act this time.

Will this affect crypto currencies?

Society is so dependent on this technology, if it ever goes down, look out.

No, and it wasn't a backdoor within the Operating System. It was a security hole with the SMBv1 (Server Messaging Block) protocol which was introduced in 1992. As long as your firewall is blocked over port 445 which most are, you really do not have a reason to be concerned by the ransomware. Do not under any circumstances open any email attachments that you aren't aware of.

Here is the bulletin indicating vulnerable systems. As Ares says SMB flaw.

unfortunately people are idiots and will open that tax refund email alert, online banking confirmation message email or government allowance approval message, even though they aren't getting a tax refund, didn't do any online banking or apply for a government allowance..... because free stuff right?

LifeHacker #1 Windows Utility

"Let's admit it: sometimes, even though we know it's wrong, we all open the occasional sketchy program or file. We're not judging, but if you're going to do it, at least use protection. Enter Sandboxie, which lets you run programs independent of the rest of your system. That way they can't infect, access, or otherwise interfere with your Windows installation. It's also great for testing apps you aren't sure of or running multiple instances of an app that won't let you, so it's fun for the whole family." I heard it was the North Koreans that were responsible. Any news on who did it really? Or is this claim that a Russian North Korean, working for the Iranians with ties to Assad did it, is that true?

yes, yes it is, I heard it from an insider with some knowledge who couldn't be identified as they weren't authorized to speak about it publicly. But you can take it from me, that I just made all of that up. And if you can't hang a Truth hat on that what can you hang it on?

As if FRN's weren't enough of a scam, only an idiot would double down on phony money by trading that for some fiat in cyberspace.

I take issue with this comment, just for the fact that it sounds so uneducated regarding cryptos and fiat. They aren't even in the same ballpark. Fiat money is FORCED upon you by governments and inflated to the point that it's virtually worthless. Crypto currencies are used by CONSENT. No one is forcing the sender, or recipient to use crypto currencies. The sender and recipient use it VOLUNTARILY to exchange value. Something that government run money was supposed to do, but fails repeatedly century after century after century of use in different forms.

The blockchain is a game changer. Give it some more time to mature and you'll see the value in it. The coins may live or die, but blockchain technology is going to stay with us for the foreseeable future.

With all things being equal I agree with you that FRNs and crypto are two different animals however; we're in interesting and very unstable times. I guess i simply don't trust anything I can't hold now adays and I definitely don't trust paper.

You'd be wise in that assumption. I've never once advocated anyone going in 100% in cryptos. I hold some, but I also hold gold and silver. Divest, I think a lot of people will be pleasantly surprised to be "holding" some crypto's while the Asian markets start diving into them because they are losing trust in stocks and bonds.

Will cryptos live up to the claim that governments cannot steal them? Only time will tell. But I'll say here and now I trust cryptos more than I do stocks and bonds. Cryptos are much harder to game as there is a ledger showing all cryptos that are ever in existence and will ever exist. So they can't dump naked shorts to drop the price knowing full well that there is no where near the number of coins in existence like they do with gold and silver when the price gets to high.
