Federal Judge Dismisses ‘Clock Boy’ Discrimination Lawsuit
A lawsuit filed by the father of Ahmed Mohamed, also known as “Clock Boy,” was dismissed by a federal judge on Thursday, according to a report from the Daily Mail.
Mohammed was arrested in September of 2015 after bringing a homemade clock to his local high school
The incident gained national attention and sparked media outrage over alleged discrimination because of ethnicity and religion.
Siding with Mohamed, then-President Barack Obama even invited Mohamed to bring his “clock” to The White House.
In the aftermath, Mohamed’s father filed a lawsuit against Irving Independent School District, MacArthur High School principal Daniel Cummings and the city of Irving, Texas, claiming officials violated the boy’s civil rights by suspending him for three days.
He also complained that Irving Independent School District has an “ugly history of race struggles” and that Texas has a “history of discrimination against Muslims in Texas curriculum and schools.”
“These acts by the authorities show blatant disregard for the civil rights of this American,” said Mohamed’s attorney Susan Hutchison in a statement back August.
In November, Mohamed’s attorneys said the boy deserved $15 million in damages.
