As June wraps up with more dead and slightly less lead than last June, it’s time to gear up for our annual Shitshow of the Year – The (Extended) July 4th Weekend. Items to watch for:

This is the first year since 2013 where we’ll have an extra day of stupid to run up the score – Friday 12p – Wednesday 6a.
Beware of the slow start head fake. As soon as the media trumpets a low tally on Sunday or the CPD touts some strategy is working, all hell will break loose, guaranteed.
The Lakefront fireworks display on the 4th provides some of the best scanner traffic of the year. Nonstop mayhem. Tune into Zone 4 and/or CW6 plus the usual Twitter feeds.
No matter what happens this weekend it is unlikely to be the worst of the year.

Past July 4th weekends were disasters. There is no reason to suspect anything different this year.
