Multiple People Shot, Including House Majority Whip Scalise, At Congressional Baseball Practice:

At least five people have been shot, including House Majority Whip Steve Scalise - the third ranking Republican - and aides, during a baseball practice in Virginia Wednesday, Fox News confirmed. The shots were reported on East Monroe Street in Del Ray, Alexandria police said on Twitter at 7:30 a.m. The location was near a YMCA.

An injured Steve Scalise is shown being carried away on a stretcher.

A reporter from the Huffington Post tweeted that a congressman said he "heard there was a shooting at the Congressional baseball game practice field." ABC 7 News reported "multiple shooting" in the 400 block of E. Monroe Street.

Scalise, 51, is the House majority whip. He has represented Louisiana’s First Congressional District since 2008 and chairs the House Republican Study Committee. He is married with two children. Scalise's district includes New Orleans.

According a report from Rep. Mo Brooke, who said he was not shot, more than 50 rifle shots were fired.

Police tweeted they "believed" the gunman was in custody. Sen. Mike Lee told Fox News, however, the gunman was dead. He said a staffer used a belt as a tourniquet to stop Scalise's bleeding.

Acquaintance describes campaigning for Bernie Sanders with shooting suspect

Charles Orear, 50, a restaurant manager from St. Louis, said in an interview Wednesday that he became friendly with James T. Hodgkinson, whom law enforcement officials identified as the shooter, during their work in Iowa on Sen. Bernie Sanders’s presidential campaign. Orear said Hodgkinson was a passionate progressive and showed no signs of violence or malice toward others.

“You’ve got to be kidding me,” Orear said when told by phone. “I met him on the Bernie trail in Iowa, worked with him in the Quad Cities area.”

Orear described Hodgkinson as a “quiet guy” who was “very mellow, very reserved” when they stayed overnight at a Sanders’s supporter home in Rock Island, Ill., after canvassing for the senator.

Scalise was in critical condition Wednesday afternoon following emergency surgery, the hospital where he was being treated said.
The FBI identified the suspected gunman as James Hodgkinson of Belleville, Ill., who died following a shootout with police.

To begin, I'm a resident in general surgery and while I'm definitely a low level resident I've had lots of experience in gunshot trauma in the OR both in medical school and my time as a doctor. I come from an unfortunately very high crime area so our trauma center gets a TON of gunshot wounds daily. The news about Mr. Scalise's condition has been terribly scarce on details (no surprise) but given what we know I thought I could shed some light on what's probably going on, especially with the media reporting different facts regarding his condition. I'll try to avoid super medical jargon as much as possible for the sake of clarity. I'm also post-call so if I'm not 100% coherent in my descriptions please give me a bit of leeway.

Here's what we know: he was shot with a rifle and sustained a through-and-through injury in the pelvic region. Without knowing exactly where the entrance and exit wounds are it's tough to say what was injured, but it's safe to say that this is a very dangerous area to be shot in. Rifle bullets travel at a much higher velocity than pistol rounds and therefore have a ton more energy to disperse; a 9mm bullet (~115-124 grains) at ~1200 fps is nothing like a 7.62mm rifle bullet (I heard it was an SKS, so maybe 124 grains) going 2500 fps. By basic physics that means the round has more than 4x the energy and believe me, it shows.

If a shock trauma arrived right now in my hospital with the injuries described I'd be worried about several things. First, there's a lot of vasculature in that area. The aorta carries blood straight from your heart and runs parallel to your spine where it separates around your belly button into two big arteries, the iliacs, one for each leg. As each iliac artery gets near the pelvis they divide again and one branch goes into each leg while the other turns into a ton of smaller arteries for the organs in your pelvis. All of these could of course be damaged by a bullet. Just as importantly though, we all have a ton of veins bringing blood back to the heart which sit around the back of the pelvis (the sacrum) called the pelvic venous plexus. Venous injuries can be harder to fix both because of their location and the fact that veins don't have the thicker muscular walls that arteries do, so they tear more easily. Trans-pelvic gunshot wounds can of course also damage the colon/rectum, the bladder, etc, but when it comes to trauma surgery those are much less important than bleeding out. The whole problem gets complicated by "secondary missiles" which are typically bone fragments that get propelled into other organs, and with rifle wounds because of the increased energy of the projectile they can be impressive.

So to put all of this in perspective, when I heard Mr. Scalise was shot in the leg I was cautiously optimistic, but when they reported a trans-pelvic wound my first thought was "shiiiiiit." Unlike a gunshot wound to the lower leg, this one enters the abdominal area and needs urgent surgery. He'd immediately go for an exploratory laparotomy (or exlap) which means his abdomen would be cut open right down the middle so the surgeons could examine the pelvis from the inside. The principle behind this operation would be essentially damage control. If the artery to the leg is severed it can either be directly repaired or a "shunt" can be placed which is basically a tube placed in both ends of the artery and tied in place. The other branches going into the pelvis on one side, if damaged, can be tied off directly since there should be arteries on the other side to compensate. The larger, more easily identified veins can also be tied off. In many -if not most- cases though there will be a significant amount of bleeding from sources they can't identify right then; in that case the pelvis is "packed" with sponges (cloth dressings really) to put pressure on the bleeding. It's pretty much the same principle you do for bleeding on the outside. Once good control of the patient's bleeding is established, the other injuries would be addressed. Exactly what and in which order is too complicated to address here, especially when we know so little about what trajectory the bullet crossed. Next he'd probably have a temporary abdominal closure placed (there's lots of different types but the essence is that they wouldn't close the abdominal incision) and transfer him to the ICU.

Later, after giving the packing a chance to work (the duration is variable but it can be half a day if not a full day) the patient is taken back to the OR and re-explored. During this time between surgeries no matter how great the patient looks they will go the ICU for close management and without a doubt that means their condition is listed as "critical." I never trust the media when they say someone's in critical condition because that really doesn't mean anything (I've had "critical" patients who seemed to be in better condition than me lol), but in this case it's most certainly appropriate. It doesn't mean he's on the verge of death; it just means he needs super close supervision. During the re-exploration the remaining injuries would be addressed. Again, exactly what and how I can't say. Other surgical services are frequently involved at this point (if I shunted a big iliac injury at the first surgery, you bet I'd be calling Vascular surgery to join me in a following operation). Depending on a ton of factors the patient may be re-explored several times before his abdomen was closed. In many cases the abdomen is actually left open with a mesh covering (and later skin grafts) if the surgeons think it's necessary. I could type more about that but this post is long enough!

I hope that answers some questions y'all had about WTF may be going on with Mr. Scalise. Please let me know if you have any questions. Again, I'm post-call (and will be going to sleep soon) so I hope I didn't forget to mention much, but I'll answer any and all questions when I can.

Scalise entered the hospital in FAIR condition. Fair condition means you can be missing an arm or leg, or have some other horrible injury, but your vital signs read completely normal. Scalise had perfectly normal vital signs when he entered the hospital. Then he leap frogged right over serious condition (where vital signs are no longer normal) to critical condition (where vital signs indicate you might die.) Folks, that can't happen in todays world. You don't go from fair condition to critical condition unless something causes it.
Trump responded to this by sending his own white house doctor to oversee Scalise. AND WHAT HAPPENED THEN? CNN and other commie news outlets flipped out, and started shredding Trump for sending a doctor he trusts to oversee Scalise! It does not take a huge brain to figure out why!
Here's why: If Scalise went from fair to critical condition, someone who wanted him dead caused it, just like Seth Rich. And someone at CNN knows the plot, and that Scalise was sent to that hospital to die. And now, because Trump sent a doctor that is not there to kill Scalise, CNN can't handle it and is whining and moaning about it. And if Scalise died, there will be a real doctor right there, to say it was caused by foul play.
I believe Scalise was sabotaged during the surgery, which was botched on purpose to kill him. That's the only way digging a bullet out of a hip is going to put someone who was perfectly stable and in fair condition, into critical condition. You can't go from fair condition to critical condition like that. It just does not happen. He's being Seth Riched NO IFS OR BUTS. Scalise was a good guy. He was one of us. Let's hope Trump's appointment of a trustworthy doctor saved him.

Some ramblings about the shooting in DC
I am highly suspicious of this. I believe this was done by a programmed patsy who was handed military hardware and that the hospital is finishing the job. Here's why:
1. First of all, the early reports said the guy used a handgun and a military issued M4 carbine. Now this has morphed to other guns that better match a story line that will lead to the death of Scalise. BUT MAKE NO MISTAKE: EARLY ON IT WAS A MILITARY ISSUE M4 CARBINE. A CONTROLLED ITEM. AND THEY CAN'T CHANGE THEIR STORY WITH SUCH AN OBVIOUS ITEM. PERIOD.
2. Second, RIGHT FROM MINUTE ONE the media was claiming 1 congressman down, 216 to go. And they were rejoicing. But it was impossible to say that, because early on there were multiple people shot and they would not have known how many congressmen were actually shot, let alone that 1 would die, thus leaving the number "216 to go". The only thing that makes sense with this as far as I see it is that they knew for sure ONE would die, and the only way they'd be sure of that is if they knew someone in the hospital was there to finish the job. From there, they'll fabricate any story line that fits.
3. Here we have a patsy, who was living a perfectly normal life, then suddenly wonked out, "lived in his van for two months" with no one knowing where he vanished to, and suddenly he surfaces and does this. That's fishy folks, and fits with "The CIA or some other Rothchild/Soros owned entity successfully drugged this guy, tripped him out, made him malfunction while he was out with the van and then programmed him for this." The fact he did the shooting, as the "first five minute" reports stated: with a military issued M4 carbine, would prove he was provided his weapons by someone beyond the ordinary. Who would that be? You guess.

4. The guy was an awful shot. From this perspective it could not have gone better. With the guns this guy had, hillbilly joe or even six pack bob who might have a gun or two of that type would have accomplished 25 head shots with 25 bullets fired. All shots were within 50 yards. That's too easy of a shot for anyone who knew anything about guns at all to miss even once, with a gun as good as even the worst assault rifle, including the SKS. How could you get such an awful shot? Answer: WITH A PROGRAMMED PATSY who knew nothing about guns, that you suddenly abducted and mind wiped for the job. That sure fits "vanished with the van for two months, " only to suddenly surface with this.
5. Scalise showed up at the hospital in fair condition. This was reported so widely that even Politico reported that he was in good spirits and called his wife before the surgery. Suddenly, after the surgery, he skipped right over serious condition straight to critical condition and the hospital started lying, saying he was in shock and delerious and in critical condition before he went into surgery even after liberal crap outlets like Politico reported he was fine. This is the biggest key indicator that he was sent to a particular hospital to die. They need their cover story for his death, and can't say he was cheerful when he went into surgery after they intentionally botched it. Calling the wife in a cheerful mood simply won't do, even if the worst liberal rags reported that.
6. Very suspicious: Now, the media is trying to scramble the story line about the gun used, to try to explain the details on the ground. They are sort of leaning towards the SKS, which might have a solid bullet deflect off the hip and cause serious internal injury, at the same time it explained why he was such an awful shot. But the SKS is not that bad, inside of 100 yards it is accurate enough to not make a difference and all shots were close. And they botched it early on by saying it was an M4 carbine. So the SKS story line is a blunder.
7. Ok, so let's say somehow our patsy got ahold of a NOT military issued .223 (which is the caliber of an M4 carbine) and he had a knock off. It will still be identical to the military version when it hits something. What happens when you hit a hip with that? Well, nothing should really happen. The bullet is designed to fragment in soft tissue and make a huge mess, but if it hits something solid like a hip, it ought to do significant damage at that point, but stop there.
They therefore want the story morphed over to it being an AK or an SKS, because that round penetrates better without fragmenting and would fit the story line of Scalaise showing up all cheery and then dying because the bullet deflected into vital organs. I guess a .223 might do that too, but if you get a bad hit with a .223, you will NOT feel cheery and call the wife, PERIOD. The only way he'd be cheery after getting hit with a .223 is if it was neutralized when it hit the hip bone and spread nowhere from that. So if he was reported as cheery before going into surgery, that would be what happened. And there would be ZERO chance of reducing to critical condition just because someone dug around in your hip.
So we are watching the story about the gun used twist and turn to fit whatever happened when a doctor intentionally botched the surgery to reduce Scalaise from fair condition to critical. SKS it will be then.
Trump may have figured this out, he's not stupid. So he sent the best white house doctor. What happened next?
8. CNN and all the other liberal media outlets FLIPPED OUT and started trashing trump for sending that doctor, who would obviously be outside of the control loop of a calculated hospital murder. That would mean key people at CNN and other liberal outlets KNEW THERE WAS A MURDER IN PROGRESS, and were pissed that Trump found a way to interfere with it. Will Scalaise make it? Only time will tell now, IF the doctor Trump sent will be good enough to see the obvious, and get Scalaise back away from critical condition.
If Scalaise dies, he was Seth Riched pure and simple, and that is my FINAL ANSWER.

On June 14, 2017, a man armed with an SKS rifle and a 9mm handgun opened fire at a baseball practice where 24 Republican members of Congress and over a half-dozen other people had gathered the day before their annual fundraising ballgame against the Democratic team.

Investigators later identified him as an anti-Trump, anti-Republican supporter of Bernie Sanders who frequently bashed the GOP on social media and had written numerous letters railing against conservatives to his hometown newspaper in Illinois...

And before getting his guns from the vehicle, he asked Ron DeSantis, then a Florida congressman, and Rep. Jeff Duncan, R-S.C., whether the practice was being held by Republicans or Democrats.

Survivors had been told during an FBI briefing in November 2017 that the bureau had designated the attack as "suicide by cop," several members of Congress, aides and others in attendance told Fox News.

"We all said that’s not accurate," said Matt Mika, a Tyson Foods lobbyist who coaches the Republican team and was shot in the chest and arm...

Suicide by cop, Mika said, involves provoking the police – as he said happened at the Capitol last month when Noah Green, a fanatical supporter of Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan, drove into a police barricade and attacked officers with a knife...

But the police presence at the congressional baseball practice was nearly invisible – with plainclothes officers in then-House Majority Whip Steve Scalise’s security detail sitting in an unmarked vehicle.

He went there to kill Republicans, and he had a list of Republicans in his pocket," Scalise told Fox News on Thursday. "He specifically asked if that was the Republican practice before he went back and got his guns and came out. He didn't know the security detail with me were cops, because they were plainclothes officers."

He called the FBI’s designation "disturbing."

"And it's not fair to the police officers who were involved that day, both Capitol Police, as well as the Virginia police, who acted bravely and heroically doing their jobs," he said.

Scalise also noted that other agencies had publicly declared the assassination attempt an act of domestic terror, including the Department of Homeland Security and prosecutors in Alexandria.

The FBI quietly admitted Friday that the 2017 Alexandria, Virginia, baseball field shooting that nearly killed Rep. Steve Scalise has been classified as “domestic terrorism” carried out by a “domestic violent extremist” targeting Republicans after the bureau previously classified it as “suicide by cop.”
