Why would Amazon want to buy a boutique grocery store chain? Now, an Amazon/Walmart merger would be something to talk about!

Whole Foods is a bit more than boutique these days. I think the thought is that it is also very urban (and trendy/green/BS), and this is where the initial business will be had. No one in rural areas drive 25 miles to grab a few items, nor do suburbans need that service when they are dropping $300/week or so to feed a family.

and that means more fake organic foods from china
I usually shop at trader joes when I cannot access fresh produces sold directly by an organic farm
OP LINK :) BORROWING THE FUTURE FURTHER... WHAT WILL A SALARY BE LIKE WHEN JOBS BEGIN TO VANISH FOREVER?
The majority of Amazon Prime members make more than $100,000 per year and 52 percent of them already purchase groceries online via the website. News that the e-commerce giant is buying Whole Foods sent grocery stocks reeling.

This gives amazon a footprint in all major metro areas. They will integrate amazon Fresh and Whole Foods stores, allowing pick-up in-store, for both food and everything else available via Prime, and, using Whole Foods stores and warehouses for amazon Fresh deliveries to homes/businesses.

The stores are all located in wealthy, high tech, young areas.
Amazon wants to target these areas. They want stores with no cashiers, just go in, grab stuff, and walk out and it automatically bills your amazon card.
Won't work in diverse neighborhoods.

Amazon is but one component of the next level of technologization of the world (starting with stem, electricity, TV, ...internet thanks to Al Gore :) , etc.). A lot of people are going to freak out about it, and it is fraught with dangers. There will be benefits to it also. It is not necessarily a conspiracy, but rather just a consequence of the fact that we can do it. The technology is there now (and was not 20 years ago), and just like the cross-bow, the firearm, the airplane, the drone, etc., once it becomes possible people will do it. Amazon is not just a website or an internet company. Amazon is becoming a technology platform. Like IBM in the 1960s - 1980s they will dominate somewhat because they were first (Microsoft and others are catching up), but ultimately, the technology will proliferate, and will become more common. Don't be scared of it- prepare for it.

i can see a viable model:
shop online at local amafoodzon warehouse, place/pay for order, drive to pick it up at customer order loading dock. drive up and pedro throws your order in your vehicle
no shoppers allowed inside facility - facility is designed and run like a warehouse distribution center - not a retail shopping experience

Case in point: Greg Nelson, who returned 37 items and apparently found himself barred from shopping at Amazon, according to an article published Friday in the Guardian (http://www.theguardian.com/money/2016/mar/18/banned-by-amazon-returning-faulty-goods-blocked-credit-balance). The computer programmer, described in the Guardian story as a “self-confessed Amazon addict,” said he has bought 343 items in total.

Actually, you're a fucktard who has no clue.
amazon routinely ships things without any semblance of protection. And, they commingle "third party seller" stock with their own, so some of it is "like new" or gray-market or even counterfeit. If they want a return rate of zero percent, or even under 10%, they need to ship top quality goods 100% of the time and pack them properly 100% of the time.

They could bypass UPS and the USPS by using the Whole Foods locations as pick up and return centers for all your other Amazon crap. Instead of free 2-day shipping they could offer free 1 day pickup at the nearest Amazon/Whole Foods location. For returns, just drop the stuff off when you stop in for groceries. It all stays within their closed distribution system. No postage costs. Also, a significantly reduced usage of boxes and packing materials.

So the back story to this , that Amazon hadn't quite figured out the grocery store warehouse/logistics pieces. So they bought Whole Foods, which has an above-average profit margin, and now the VPs at WF will teach Amazon how to set up warehousing/logistics for grocery stores. No reason that Amazon wouldn't brand WF and open many more stores.

Amazon will now have a presence in all but a handful of the lower 48 states. More sales tax collections will be occurring. The night before this was announced I was reading an article about the CEO/Founder of WF. He was lamenting Janus and the attempted take over of the board in order to sell the company and make a large chunk of change. Smokescreen interview?

It looks like Hitch and I will have to be more careful about returning our firehose pants in the future. Duluth Trading has already made some "modifications" to their warranty. I could see more coming in the future.
BTW, Cabelas has a "Lifetime Warranty" on all Cabelas branded products. Not the customer's lifetime, the lifetime of the product. Footwear has a lifetime of one year for example. That's right. $350 boots are only supposed to be good for one year. My $60 dollar boots from WM lasted longer than that.

More and more "warranties" are becoming "discounted service agreements." You pay shipping both ways, and sometimes a "handling" or "processing" fee, too. Which, in some states, California for certain, is illegal (for California, unless they have an in-state service center to send it to, they must cover shipping both ways: California Civil Code Section 1793.2). I saw this most recently with Böker.
Yes, and now the fraudulently advertised "lifetime warranty" is the "lifetime" they ascribe to the product, not you, and not disclosed before purchase. If they intend to warranty something for a year, then they say a year, not "lifetime," which is a weasel term on their part.
I've recently encountered Toshiba's "warranty." If their product fails, which it probably will, the "warranty" consists of a prepaid debit card in the amount they think your product is worth - not how much you paid for, regardless of documentation from an authorized dealer.
And, the "excessive returns" things, of course: the merchant will sell/ship made in China junk, used-as-new, broken-in-transit, and whatever other not-suited-for-advertised-purpose goods, and then bitch when customers return them. And ban you from buying there if you expect them to take responsibility for their failures each & every time.
On the other hand, the good news, a few companies still value you as something more than just a cash cow: my parents' Holmes branded fan I bought for them failed, after about a year. I called up Jarden (the "consumer products" division that Ball Corporation spun off in the past - "Jar" - "Den" i.e. home), that markets Holmes (and Sunbeam, and others) regarding their three-year warranty. The gal asked me for details on the model & date of purchase, and then asked me to pull the plug out and look at the plug blade; "please give me the codes on the blade." OK, done. Then she told me that model was not available, and offered me/us a higher-value model. She said it would ship within a few days, and we could just junk the current one. No proof of purchase, no return of the defective. She did say in some cases they ask for the product back, but she said I would have been sent a prepaid shipping label. That is how a warranty is supposed to work...although I'd have been happy to fax her the receipt.

Another thing to worry about concerning anonymity... if you go in for a knee replacement or anything else which requires parts, the surgeon special orders it with the patients name. Then it's built to order for anti-Semites.

Wealthy owner of the Washington Post Jeff Bezos, accepted a $600 million dollar contract with the CIA for collection of data from Amazon (also owned by Bezos). Now, Amazon has purchased major food retailer Whole Foods, this will give Amazon and the CIA increased control over the food supply, and access to information from Whole Foods customers. Is this another step for the Deep State to take over all of America's resources?
