An Ohio trooper was forced to conduct an unusual traffic stop when he spotted a runaway horse pulling an Amish buggy without anyone at the reins.

The horse was reported on the loose in Wooster Sunday morning.
Sgt. C.O. Smith, one of the responding officers, caught up to the panting horse on foot on State Road 250, the Wooster Daily Record (http://www.the-daily-record.com/local%20news/2017/06/25/officer-jumps-in-to-bring-runaway-horse-buggy-to-a-halt) reported.
He was able to bring the horse to a stop after running alongside the buggy, jumping in and grabbing the reins.

“I’m just glad it turned out okay,” Smith told the paper. “That could have been a bigger incident with a 2,000-pound animal running in the wrong lane.”

The paper reported that the horse had galloped about 10 miles and collapsed from exhaustion after being corralled.
Smith told the paper the horse wasn't hurt. The horse was examined by a veterinarian and given some water.

Police tracked down the owner who retrieved the horse.
“Every new day brings with it new challenges,” the Wooster Police Department said in a Facebook post about that incident.

That was pretty tame for a runaway. The horse just ran until he was tired and was quiting and going to come to a stop. The cop was no hero.

I saw a team of horses cause a lot of excitement in a parade one time. The guy with the team had already been through the parade and had come back around to watch the rest of the parade because it was long one. He parked his team and wagon along a side street, tied up the lines ( where I come from reins are called "lines" on work horses) then walked a little ways away to watch the parade. A guy with a gorilla suit came by and was scaring the kids but he scared that old team too and they took off. They slammed the wagon they were pulling in to several cars and tore it all to hell. People were running to get out of the way and the dust and wagon parts were flying every direction. They jumped over the front end of a car as they were leaving and one of the local cowboys who was horse back rode up along side of them, got ahold of one of the lines and got them stopped. No one got hurt but it sure caused a lot of excitement and the parade went on. I was driving a team and wagon in the parade and it happened right in front of me so I had a front row seat to watch it. I was sure glad they didn't come my direction.
