If imbalenced free trade (as it is when you allow free trade with "nations" who pay their workers a fraction of what your workers are paid) is so great, then why did the British fight the Opium Wars?

But this world peace through world trade was always at the expense of the American worker. And the expectation of the US and Americans is to get deeper and deeper in debt to promote growth around the world. Don't let anyone question US hegemony in the world, give them jobs and a better life and obey US military dominance. Let the American worker suffer and owe the government $60,000 per person, with mortgage, credit card debt and student loans.

The petro dollar and terror threats by the USA is what is keeping the world in line with a strong dollar, despite trade imbalances and current account deficits, budget deficits, and household debt.
