The 426 Hemi (dual four barrels) option for the 69 Roadrunner was $850.
I had a 68 Dodge R/T (B body like GTX and RR) 440 4 speed 3.90 locker factory hot rod rebuilt with Jahns 11:1 popup pistons Isky cam ported//polished/milled/cc'ed heads putting out about 425+, would give Hemis heartburn.

Fully tricked out muscle car for about 6 months of a workings stiff's wages. About $20,000 today. What would a modern equivalent cost now? I figure the closest thing made today is a top end camaro, mustang or challenger.

Never liked Isky, their patters were the same across the board, same pattern/duration for a ford/buick and mopar. I was big into a pattern in regards and found general kinetics in MI to have a ton of patterns if you understood flow. They would grind anything into your core. The isky intakes were pathetic unless on a huge project, same as their cams all generic and only helped for a couple difft engines.

Top end Challenger be a tough customer these days. Don't slack on the rear tires cause if not experienced you will dump the car. Not sure of the cost tho, sorry.

Paid just over $50,000.00 Canadian for a new '14 Challenger SRT8 with a 392 hemi, 6 speed tremec manual transmission, full load.
Today that car is listing for $67,000.00 and change and not even a hellcat.
Still it is an amazing car to drive and takes a lot of self control to keep my drivers license.
It's a bad boy and the only bonafide muscle car factory available today, imo.

This is way back from when driving and boating fell into the same skill set.

Hahaha, remember calling them all boats lol.
Built a 4400lb Pontiac Can-AM with a 454 Chevy, mash the peddle and shift 1-2-3 and steer it exactly like a boat. 40 mph incineration's were impressive. Seemed to run out of juice around 105 @ 13:20s. Through the traps in 2nd or 3rd, the latter was worth 9mph. Guy I sold it to said he will never let me near it again cause he knows I would steal it back.

The breaking was actually the most impressive part.
There isn't enough steel left in all of Pennsylvania to do that again.

Challenger indeed is one of the best muscle cars around. We've just test drive my buddy's Challenger after the new wheels, Mickey Thompson tires (http://4wheelonline.com/Mickey_Thompson_Tires.1724), and alignment. The flowmaster exhaust makes it even look and sound more aggressive.
