Police were searching Saturday for a driver who wounded two teenagers in an apparent road-rage shooting after a minor car wreck Friday night in the 4900 block of Broadway in Galveston.
One of the teenagers was critically wounded in the shooting and remained at the University of Texas Medical Branch hospital late Saturday, police said.
The shooting occurred about 7 p.m. Friday after two cars collided on Galveston’s main thoroughfare, police said.
An adult man described only as white got out of a green four-door car and was assaulted by two teenage boys, who had been passengers in a small white car, witnesses told police.
Witnesses told police the man and the teenagers had been in a shouting match before the shooting happened. The man then returned to his car, retrieved a handgun and fired several shots through the windshield of the white car, striking the teenage boys, police said.
It was unclear Saturday whether the confrontation, which police described as an assault, included physical contact.
Police said the victims were Galveston County residents but the department declined Saturday to release more details about the confrontation and the identities of the wounded teens.
The adult shooter fled east along Broadway followed by a witness who lost sight of the car in the 4500 block, police said.
The driver of the white car took the wounded teens to a University of Texas Medical Branch hospital, where one was listed in critical and one listed in stable condition late Saturday afternoon, police said.
Police were looking for the green car, which may have out-of-state license plates. The investigation was ongoing at 6 p.m. Saturday, Capt. Joshua Schirard said.
No other description of the car or the shooter was available.
