Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg: ‘I Will Not Retire Anytime Soon’

The 84-year-old Supreme Court justice, Ruth Bader Ginsburg has put her foot down. She is not stepping down from her position on the Supreme Court anytime soon.
Ginsburg has been the subject of rumors that have said the octogenarian would retire during Donald Trump’s tenure as president, leaving an empty spot for him to fill. Ginsburg, also known as the “Notorious R.B.G” (http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2017/10/29/justice-ginsburg-not-retire-supreme-court-anytime-soon/)among her supporters, has served on the court for 24 years since former President Bill Clinton appointed her in 1993.
When asked Friday whether or not she was contemplating retirement, Ginsburg said: “My answer is as long as I can do the job full steam, I will do it.” The 84-year-old justice was talking to US Appeals Court Judge Ann Williams at an event sponsored by Equal Justice Works (http://www.equaljusticeworks.org/).
Ginsburg may have quite a different opinion from others on what “full steam” means, considering she fell asleep during liberal hero Barack Obama’s state of the union address.
Her comments come as President Donald Trump (http://www.cnn.com/2017/10/30/politics/ruth-bader-ginsburg/index.html) has suggested he will get more vacancies before his term is up, and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is pursuing an aggressive campaign to push through nominations of lower court judges. Ginsburg’s answers to questions about her retirement have changed over the years. As one on the left-leaning justices on the court, a Ginsburg retirement (http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2017/10/29/justice-ginsburg-not-retire-supreme-court-anytime-soon/) during Trump’s term would ensure a heavily stacked conservative court, which would have made certain laws like Obamacare all but impossible to get through.
But, Ginsburg will not retire anytime soon. The justice’s liberal supporters (http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2017/10/29/justice-ginsburg-not-retire-supreme-court-anytime-soon/) hope she will stay on the court throughout the Trump administration. Despite observers concerns that she does not have the energy to continue in her position, Ginsburg shows no signs of slowing down.
She said her response to retirement questions has changed over the years, but now she’s adamant. “I used to have an answer; it worked for a lot of years. It was Justice [Louis] Brandeis when he was appointed. He was the same age as I was, 60. And he stayed for 23 years, so I expect to stay at least as long. Well, now I’ve passed Brandeis, I’ve passed [Justice Felix] Frankfurter,” she added.
