Shoppers getting an early start on Black Friday deals had their Thanksgiving trek to the Riverchase Galleria cut short when fights broke out in the mall.

Hoover police and firefighters responded to the shopping center after 11 p.m. on at least one fight in a store on the mall's second floor. Reports of gunfire quickly spread on social media, but authorities said reports of shots fired were not confirmed and no one was shot. Video circulating on Facebook shows one of the fights, which was between two women.

Hoover Fire paramedics treated one victim on the scene for minor injuries sustained in a fight. No one was transported to the hospital. Officers said the fights were not over sales, but of a personal nature.

There were reports of several arrests stemming from the fights, but efforts to confirm that with police weren't immediately successful.

The Galleria opened to shoppers at 6 p.m. Thursday and was set to close at midnight before reopening again at 6 a.m. for Black Friday. Instead, because of the commotion, the mall closed down about 11:20 p.m. and ushered shoppers out.

The mall is set to reopen today at 6 a.m. and will remain open until 10 p.m. As part of their normal holiday season security plan, Hoover police have additional officers on duty at the city's shopping centers.

The fight broke out late Thursday night - Thanksgiving Day in the US - as malls opened early for Black Friday sales.

A Fox 6 news producer wrote on Facebook that a witness reported seeing a shoe hit a baby after it was thrown over a railing at the clothing shop Buckle.

One shopper wrote: "My cousin and her family was there in lockdown at Build-a-bear. Soooo scary!"
