A man from Borden, Sask. who posted on social media that he wanted to kill Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has been given a suspended sentence of two years on probation.
Derek Hurrell, 34, must follow probation conditions that include continuing to see medical professionals for his mental health issues, regularly reporting to a probation officer, not possessing firearms or explosives and not going on social media.
On March 16, police were alerted to a Facebook post made in January in which someone from Saskatchewan wrote, “I just want to take a gun to (Trudeau’s) head and blow it off,” and that “It would be a public service to Canada,”
Crown prosecutor Michael Segu said Monday in Saskatoon provincial court.
Police traced the IP address to Hurrell, who pleaded guilty in June to uttering a death threat.
