Dogman, according to that link, today is not bacon day. Next Saturday (first after the new year) is bacon day....or, one of the many bacon days.

Regardless, every day should be a good reason to eat bacon. What we need is a Chinese Year of the Bacon, could make for some nice collectible silver coins. :)

Overheard a story several days ago. About feral hogs. Seems they have a bait now that will poison them. It involves pellets of sodium nitrite. Sure seems ironic that the same substance used to cure bacon is also used to kill 'em. Ever wonder why the same mineral doesn't kill you?

According to the MSDS the LD50 of sodium nitrite is 180 mg/kg bodyweight. For a 100 kg hog 18 grams will kill half the population this dose is applied to. To be sure then must double the dosage to 36 grams or about an oz and a half.
