As I recall it the sea surface wasn’t heating up as well. Instead the heating of 0.01° average occurred at depths below a kilometer, below surface. All scientifically measured with a few hundred buoys floating around in the 7 seas. The problem is of course that 1) you can’t measure a 0.01° difference accurately with these thermometers 2)The number of buoys is too low 3)One can create the impression of a rising temp, by just excluding a couple more measurements that are deemed anomalous on the cold side, rather than anomalous on the hot side.

As for heating your bath water with a hairdryer you are wrong. Try it next time you take a bath and as the water starts getting cold, take your wives hairdryer turn it on and submerge it. Note keeping it above the surface will take far too long. It will be nice and sizzling in no time. It works even better if you put a fistful of Epson salts in the bath before.
