cnn weighs in
bold - both sides agree more money needs to be given toward the criminals after caring for them 24/7 while they were in prison for however many felonies landed them there

Kushner's effort to sway Trump on prison reform is smart
(CNN) Conventional wisdom told us that we should have lost all hope for any federal criminal justice reform after President Donald Trump was elected. His law and order rhetoric as a candidate and his nomination, as President, of Jeff Sessions to be Attorney General were alarming.
Kushner's commitment to this issue seems personal. Having watched his father, Charles Kushner, sentenced to prison, he is likely to have an intimate understanding of how brutal and dehumanizing the criminal justice system can be. Kushner's Office of American Innovation is tasked with bringing "new thinking and real change" to some of America's most pressing challenges. There is no shortage of innovative ideas when it comes to fixing our criminal justice system.
Another area where there is agreement is better support and economic opportunity for individuals returning to their communities after incarceration. Both parties agree that public safety is best served when people leaving prison have meaningful opportunities to obtain housing, employment and education.
An administration that on the one hand wants to roll back progress on medical marijuana can't be fully trusted to handle the issue of justice reform optimally. But the American people are tired of the Washington, DC food fight and are looking for leadership. And for the millions of people behind bars and their families, any light in the darkness should be encouraged.

two thirds of 650k back in custody within 3 years! so their crime rate is infinity....when considering how many crimes must be done for 2/3 to be back in custody in only three years. basic math translates those figures to millions of crimes in three years. and they are releasing 650k new ones every year...so millions for them....and them...and them

As Trump noted, the Justice Department has reported that approximately two-thirds of the more than 650,000 ex-offenders released from prison every year are rearrested within three years.

I didn’t get that the idea was to release prisoners early, more to rehabilitate them to a life outside the walls, so that they could positively contribute to society instead of returning to crime, after the release, but I didn’t see the whole video.

you are correct. they didnt hit us over the head with it. you'll have to wait for that. i'm reading tea leaves
a ladder, more funding (welfare, etc), more coaching for after release programs, prison reform...etc
the view of coach and release is a well-worn leftist tactic. broken down in more detail by eustace mullins in 'the rape of justice'
what makes anyone think that adding an extra attempt at educating these animals will be different than all of the other attempts they've rejected their whole lives? utter bullsh-t -- doing more of same will straighten them out

I don’t know, but USA having 5% of worlds population while 25% of the worlds prison population, while not being particularly low on crime should indicate there are rooms for improvements. Sure it may have to do with the importation of people from shitholes too, crime rates are skyrocketing in Sweden due to it the last few decades.
Deportation of foreign criminals and shutting the borders to new criminal immigrants should be the primary way of reducing prison population. Another is to not send honest people to prison on bullshit drug charges. Then you can spend more on actually trying to rehabilitate the remainders. Having said that I realize there is a proportion of criminals that are impossible to rehabilitate, and they need to be kept under bars.

i see more sentencing outrages on the low side rather than the high side. maybe it's just me...
i will concede that whites with bad politics get shafted on the high side...and some on weed possession...but not much else
