A manager at a Dickinson automobile dealership was expected to survive being shot several times with a large-caliber handgun Friday during a dispute with an employee over hours, police said.

Michael Pavlas, 38, of Alvin, was shot about 11 a.m. at Gay Family Auto, in the 3000 block of Interstate 45, Dickinson police Sgt. Tim Cromie said.

Friday was Pavlas’ birthday, according to state driver records.

Joshua Allen Lee, 29, was charged hours later with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and was being held Friday in the Dickinson jail, Cromie said. His bond was set at $80,000, Cromie said.

Lee apparently was upset about the hours he had been assigned at work and the men had argued in an office before Pavlas was shot, Cromie said.

Lee fled in his 2011 Chevy Malibu as Dickinson police put out a vehicle description, Cromie said.

A League City patrol officer spotted a car matching the description and a 3-mile chase ensued, ending in the Friendswood and Webster area, Cromie said.

Police chased Lee on foot when he ran from his vehicle, Cromie said.

Police found a .357-caliber Ruger revolver on Lee when they took him into custody, Cromie said.
