VALLEJO, Calif. — The nation’s largest home builder is betting voice-activated digital assistants and smart devices will become as expected in a new home as garages now are.

Lennar announced Wednesday that standard features in its new homes will include built-in Wi-Fi, smart locks, doorbells, thermostats and lights — all controlled by Alexa, Amazon’s voice-activated digital assistant.

Each house will come with two Alexa-enabled smart speakers, an Echo Show and an Echo Dot. New homeowners will also get a free visit from an Amazon technician to help set everything up and teach them how to use it.

"This will be the hallmark of why we buy a new home,” said David Kaiserman, president of Lennar Ventures. “It’s an important step in the mass adoption of all these technologies.”

See, see, here, hear. The human interface is not completely outdated... I wonder if there is a kill switch for the house if it would decide to turn against you?

It astounds me how small minded people will trade their privacy for a little convenience. They deserve what they get!

It astounds me how small minded people will trade their privacy for a little convenience. They deserve what they get!I saw a chart which showed an increasing adoption of digital "home assistants" throughout the US. Apparently it's a hit, people love being monitored 24/7/365 just so they can yell out to their "home assistant" to turn the music on or off.

I can't fathom ever having one of these in my house! When you get one, every bit of privacy you used to enjoy at home is now being monitored by Amazon/Google (and of course the US Gov't too). Like, when I'm making love to my wife for the third time in a day, I don't need Amazon listening in on how good it is for her. That's between me and her. ;)

Franks has what, 4 children now? All of them less than 10 yo? And they have the energy and time to make love 3 times in a day. Maybe they only eat oysters and drug their children?...

I am just envious Madfranks, did you manage to send your children to the grandparents for a few days? ;D

Simple to do as long as both don't want the need to be in a bed. Called quickies, most times there is no happy ending tho lol. What is the requisite for making "love"? Step away a couple minutes and go to work. Short easy access skirts and loose shorts etc.

You should probably ask that question to the Amazon human interface rep a long way from your house. So your house don’t start being worried and getting ideas. Also a long way away from smartphones, dumbphones, cars, drones, watches, lightbulbs, who regularly chat with your house...

... Come to think about it, it is probably better not to ask at all. It’s ok!

-Is there anyway of erasing these comments so that my future house won’t find out?

-I see, ok, sorry for asking. Sure I get the house anyway...

My wife was really happy when one of the kids gave us an Amazon Echo for Christmas. She asked it a few questions and was delighted that the thing talked back to her with the right answers and responded to her commands. Then I logged on to Amazon and showed here every word she said was captured by her neat little disk and sent to Amazon. She ran downstairs, unplugged the thing and hasn't gone near it since!
