My opinion? Honor and dishonor are more important than being civil. Dishonor is a perceived slight. These concepts also embody the idea of contract.

Hobbes had a much more developed concept of honor and dishonor. I don't entirely agree with his ideas. He classes 'thief' and 'pirate' as honorable trades until commonwealths appeared. But then when timeframe is considered context becomes more valuable.

Civil law is Roman law as exists on most of the European region. Common law is an English concept. With common law an injury is required to be classed a criminal. Civilization is a process which converts a common law crime to a civil crime.
