Actually he screwed a teenage girl under 17 and paid her $500 for sex. In Travis County, the blue asshole of the red state of Texas, he's likely to get time due to his business activities. What a dumb ass.

Honeypot?
Girl was on a website that required 18 or over. How does fraud equate into this?

Girl was on a website that required 18 or over. How does fraud equate into this? That's true. As distasteful as this is, if she represented to him that she was 18, is it unreasonable for him to believe her?

The US Marshalls took on the case. Do not ask me how that happens.

Interstate commerce because the alleged crime was arranged by internet?
Perhaps a fugitive from justice that crossed state lines/international boundaries to avoid apprehension? (bearing in mind that he flew to Taiwan prior to being indicted)
The perception of reality is more important than reality itself.

I don't know about your neck of the woods, but just about every warrant apprehension has the feds involved around my area.
I have never heard anyone bring up the reasoning for having the feds do local apprehensions for local crimes. It started maybe 2-3 years ago maybe. Maybe the feds want there presence known?
As far as this case, I agree with MR. It's because he jumped nations.
The sad part is that if he had just gone to Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines, etc, he could have diddled even younger and flown home and gone to bed.

MR’s reasoning makes sense.
The feds have usurped jurisdiction with laws like the patriot act and ndaa that Constitutionally have no force and effect in any of the Union States. The population is so dumbed down they believe the feds are supreme over state laws and states rights. Consequently the usurpation gets worse and worse
edit: Both the Bundy Oregon and Nevada cases were tried in federal courts. These cases were criminal. Article III courts do not have jurisdiction to hear criminal cases where the crimes are commited in a Union State. The Nevada Constitution reserved the right to hear all criminal cases arising within Nevada’s borders except those commited on property ceded to the United States with consent of the Nevada Legislature. Public lands were not ceded to the USA with consent of the legislature.
Dr. John Parks Trowbridge Jr. pretty well has nailed down that the US District Courts are municipal courts of the District of Columbia usurping jurisdiction in the States.

Your thought may have some merit.
Chicago man who allegedly made hundreds of fake restaurant reservations charged with wire fraud (http://www.chicagotribune.com/dining/ct-food-fraud-charge-filed-fake-reservations-20180921-story.html#nt=oft02a-2li3)
A former employee of a restaurant reservation company has been charged with one count of wire fraud by the U.S. attorney’s office in Chicago after allegedly making hundreds of fake restaurant bookings through the system operated by a competitor, Reserve.
Steven Addison, 30, of Chicago, is accused of making more than 300 fake reservations using Reserve’s system from November 2017 to February 2018, according to a “criminal information” charge, court records show. Defendants charged by information typically plan to plead guilty.

The Taiwanese wants to be good friends with the only country on earth that could prevent a hostile takeover by China. Otherwise I am sure they don’t care one iota.
