There's been chatter about The Great Shuttening with Gab [and going down and the possibility that it could happen here.

I discussed in a PM with a member here about either going to an alternate site [I]or passing around an encrypted text file to add email addresses to. That way encrypted emails can still be passed along if desired. He wasn't too keen on it. Maybe make an email strictly for GSUS communications....

Another way is Ham Radio -- but not everyone is into it or interested in purchasing the gear.

So, what does everyone think? If GSUS goes down *poof* all contact is gone or does someone agree with what I said, or have a better idea?

Set up a backups site that is completely private in viewing all forum posts?

If a backup forum would become a necessity, we would be outed in an instant if it wasn't private.

I would have no issue sharing my personal email with a few members. If the board did go teats up, it would be nice to stay in communication. As of know I can only think of one member that knows my first name.

I was thinking the same. I tried looking for the link but couldn't find it.... -- but there is a server in Israel that filters all internet traffic looking "antisemitism". I think it is never going to end.... even the small sites like ours will eventually be a target.

I already have an email shared at "My Settings" in GSUS, If it went down I would expect someone would automatically notify me.

Though I also expect too much.

Would it be possible to set up your own server farm/ hosting site? Not like I have the dough, just wondering.

If you have a real good speed, yes you can run a server (PC) and be independent mattering on your cable, T? provider. I know a guy that knows a dude that's related to some woman in... Just kidding. It can be done with a simple PC. A Raid system would be preferred to double/triple save things. The only drawback is slow speeds under heavy load which we do not have here.

Not too many folks post, nor feel confortable posting, on this forum anymore. It's friendly to lurk and see old faces around here though. I don't think this site is "on the radar" of the tptb, they have their sights on others, but I could be wrong. Probably the best thing to do, would be to exchange email addresses beforehand with people on here you trust. Keep in touch that way, so if this forum does go down, word of mouth would spread. Just my two bits.

Well I got the registered e-mail of everyone that complained to the moderators about a post in the last few years. I tried my best to get removed from the mailing list but it seems JQP have been flung over the edge of his geocentric universe. So if someone wants to be added to my collection of member e-mails, just report this post as evil and you are added automatically. Madfranks should have an even bigger mailing list actually, since he was moderating from the beginning of time.

We already hashed it out. He posts 24/7, I lurk. I just don't have the time nor energy to get involved in internet forums anymore, but I do lurk. I check in on this site, and you all, for a lot of quick info on what's going on to keep informed. Funny how trust and respect can be earned, and lost, on internet forums. A lot, most all here, over the years have earned my respect. A few lost it.
