Airbnb built its reputation by disrupting the hotel business, but now it is becoming a pioneer in an even older industry: anti-Semitism.
Never in modern times has an American-based company taken a more blatant step to directly target Jews (https://nypost.com/2018/11/20/airbnbs-act-of-corporate-anti-semitism/) for discrimination than the lodging rental company has now done.
The company announced a dramatic decision to de-list homes offered for rent by Jews in the suburbs of Jerusalem (https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/airbnb-drops-listings-for-israeli-settlements-in-the-west-bank) that are disputed territory, even though the site allows Arabs to list homes in that same area.
Airbnb's blog post announcing the decision was titled, " Listings in Disputed Regions (https://press.airbnb.com/listings-in-disputed-regions/)." But the title was misleading. It did not refer to "regions" plural -- the post was only about targeting Jews.
As Middle East scholar and former Israeli Ambassador Michael Oren noted (https://twitter.com/DrMichaelOren/status/1064569695901229056?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5 Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1064569695901229056&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.haaretz.com%2Fus-news%2F.premium-boycott-airbnb-unless-you-re-good-with-anti-semitism-1.6675605), "Airbnb blacklists Jewish apartments in Judea and Samaria - not Palestinian apartments, not apartments in Turkish occupied Cyprus, in Moroccan occupied Sahara, not in Tibet or the Crimea. Airbnb’s policy is the very definition of anti-Semitism. No one should use its services."
I'm not sure what's worse -- if Airbnb is being run by Jew haters, whether they thought they could profit more by accommodating Jew haters, or if they're simply too spineless to stand up to Jew haters.
Whatever the case, I know I will never be using their services again and will be looking into other competitors (https://www.huffpost.com/entry/alternative-sites-to-airbnb-for-vacation-rentals_n_5a987ab9e4b0a0ba4ad184e9) the next time I require a vacation rental.
