We were blessed to have our kids grow up when they did (although earlier ages would have been even better). Our schools never - and I mean, never - told us not to show up unannounced, and most staff welcomed it, anytime. Granted, the elementary school was Waldorf, but even their high school was cool with our visits. All we had to do is check in, and then immediately go join the kids.
Now, local school kids must take the needle without question, and I'm sure this "no parents welcome" trend will grow rapidly.
Educational programming.

It's been a long time since school but I remember parents standing in the back of the classroom staring daggers into the back of their kid's head. You never wanted to screw up that bad. Maybe the teacher couldn't touch you but your old man could whip your ass right in front of everyone. It made us careful.

the duplicitous [redacted] advocate FOR THE EXACT OPPOSITE for parents/guardians of vibrants. they are doing everything they can to bring them under the skoolz' umbrellas. this is a push directly from nyc.dc, converting the skoolz into community service orgs for the free shit army

School is a glorified prison (forcibly financed by the most insidious tax in America) and visitation with prisoners is usually very limited.
You have to be a moron to send your children to a "public prison"

I worked with some homeschooled kids in the mid-1990s. The 13-year old was clearly more truly "educated" (wise and knowledgeable) than my fellow undergrads. Definitely much more well-behaved, too. I'm sure the disparity is much greater now.

A stunt for Federal ruling regulation and inclusion? much news makes the Dept. of Education appear useful.
What the new admin has created is a staunch Left defense of crumbling public institutions.
Liberal pliability will only solidify that wall.

the scam/rallying cry is CLOSE THE GAP. meaning to narrow the gap between white/asian and black/mexican. they are attacking it from both sides -- pouring all resources into black/mexican while shorting/inhibiting white/asian achievement
hence situations like in the op -- white parent involvement is an advantage over black/mexican. cant have that. while in my shithole region -- the skoolz are falling all over themselves to get the black/mexican parents involved in the skoolz
and if you haven't heard -- HOMEWORK IS RACIST. why? because whites typically do theirs - and get parental help/pressure to do it. blacks/mexicans not. this hurts the gap closing agenda. my local skool has this policy of no homework because of gap agenda

Yeah, I don't know what kids even learn now. (((Educators))) have been dumbing down the curriculum for decades. I know a guy who teaches in a Tech College, and he said it is noticeable that the kids are dumber now compared to when he started just 10 years ago.
A comment on the OT. Why are they visiting for lunch in the first place? I've never even heard of that before.

it's not the educators, it's the admin (directed/incentivized by gov)

Five HISD campuses becoming community schools to meet the needs of students, families
About 4,000 students and their families in high-poverty areas will benefit from a $2.5 million grant that will provide wraparound services, including social, medical, financial, and emotional support.
The Board of Education approved the use of grant funds from the U.S. Department of Education that will convert five HISD campuses to community schools under the district’s Every Community Every School initiative.

I love the cute names they come up with for their programs... "wraparound services"... so warm and cuddly, like a hug!
"Reacharound services" is on deck in case of a lack of enthusiasm.

Trust me, it's nearly all of them. The "teachers" are just as fanatic in most cases as the admins. "We must eliminate 'racial disparities' in 'education'" kind of bullshit. Reduce to lowest common denominator, the brightest be damned.

It's not exactly common, especially among the working class (for obvious reasons). But among the leisure class and/or non-working mothers, they do it occasionally. "Parent-child-educator collaboration."

not here in tx. it's more along racial lines -- vibrants left, humans not. the devil is in the incentives that depts of edu dangle/threaten the admin with. if i want to get a raise i have to.......if i want to make that promotion i have to.......
teachers are the street cops - make no policy, make no educational plans for their classes, do nothing w/out admin scrutinizing. there is zero autonomy for them. they are told what to teach, and in what order, and with prescribed materials - books, workbooks, etc
