A crowdfunded documentary that purports to expose a vast coronavirus conspiracy is sweeping France. Hold-Up, directed by former TV news reporter, Pierre Barnerias, was streamed by more than 3 million people in just its first week and is being promoted by celebrities such s Juliette Binoche and Sophie Marceau. It starts out innocuously enough, by questioning inconsistencies in the management of the pandemic. Whey were we first told not to were masks, then to wear them? Why did the medical journal Lancet run an article saying hydroxychloroquine would not help Covid-19 patients, but then retract it? Eventually, the 2-hour, 43-minute film leads viewers into "obscure theories of global conspiracy" involving presidents, the WHO, the media, and the pharmaceutical industry. The film includes quotes from respected experts....The government and most health authorities have condemned "Hold Up" as baseless propaganda.
