Found this: https://investingnews.com/innspired/palladium-platinum-catalytic-converters-metals-market/
From that link:
Palladium has better thermal stability than platinum and can withstand the temperatures of gasoline exhaust. Palladium is more widely used in the catalytic converter market for gasoline-powered cars, while platinum is the go-to metal for the diesel-fueled vehicle market. Demand for diesel-powered vehicles has been shrinking, decreasing platinum demand from the catalytic converter market.
I haven't done any other searching so I don't know.

You were probably running on long-ago stored info which sometimes gets shuffled around in the memory banks. At least you knew there was a connection between the different metals and different fuels, which is more than I knew. I would not have researched if you had not mentioned it.o)(~

Ohhhh Ahhhh Ohhhh!
high $2,116 so far today according to kitco, & still hoovering near top like it aint finished yet; meanwhile the other 3 PMs red.
chart snapshot since Aug https://www.tradingview.com/x/sNQNj9rJ/
@ $2,200 Pd I'll officially have a 10-bagger on my big '04 buy, at least it's spot was $220 that day; I paid $20 premium per coin/bar as they were direct from the producer, the infamous Northwest Territorial Mint >:D - so would need more like $2,400 Pd for an authentic 10-bagger

Perhaps it’s time to swap Pd for Pt? I loaded up on Pt sub $800 but I think that it is still very cheap.

Would you recommend buying Pt before Ag & Au at the current prices?

I don't know about moving into Pt... I actually eased out of ~20% of my physical Pd last Fall in the $1600s... boo hoo to that, now @ $2100 Pd right? Meh, it was the coin behind my newish Honda Fit & RV both in the recent <2 mos, which have both been dramatic lifestyle changers. The car for example; I hadn't owned a personal car for 15 years! Was all walking & short term rental cars & taxis & public trans... whew, the freedom again!

If you are investing long term (more than a year) I would recommend some Pt but not to the exclusion of silver which is also an excellent buy at $18. Gold is probably overbought now though I am confident that we will see $1600 this year and continuously higher prices for several years to come. Platinum historically sells at a premium to gold so today’s low price vis a vis gold is unprecedented. Also, I like it’s scarcity and geopolitical risk.

Au already hit $1610 last night around 7:30 ET https://goldprice.org/ Maybe U meant $1800? I'd bet on that this yr... prolly by "...sell in May and go away..." time.

Re: Ohhhh Ahhhh Ohhhh! Palladium!
Pd spurted up to $2165 this past hour (via kitco; goldprice.com says $2149 peak)
hourly chart going back ~5 days https://www.tradingview.com/x/ssKtDwfw/

Thanks. I have been reluctant to by more silver since it has been above $16. I bought most of my silver between $5.00 and $12.00. $18 had me spooked. I don’t have platinum, perhaps I will put a little money in Pt. also.

Re: Ohhhh Ahhhh Ohhhh! Palladium!
Remember boys and girls- gold is a barbaric relic, and palladium is an auto-catalyst.
" Palladium hit a record high of $2,191.60 an ounce, and was on track for a ninth straight session of gains. The auto-catalyst was up 2.7% at $2,189.77. For 2020/21, "we forecast heavy structural supply/demanddeficits for palladium," James Steel, chief precious metalsanalyst at HSBC, wrote in a note. "Likely robust automotive demand will help keep the markettight. Tighter emissions regulations globally imply heavierpalladium auto catalyst loadings.""https://uk.reuters.com/article/globa...-idUKL4N29J3K2

that's what kitco's little PM price ticker is saying, but their graph at https://www.kitco.com/charts/livepalladium.html doesn't show the line exceeding $2,450.
trying to get Pd quotes is whacked; goldprice.org earlier was showing $2,611 high, now that's changed, showing peak of $2,543!

Re: Ohhhh Ahhhh Ohhhh! Palladium!
the Pd price quote discrepancies prolly stem from the huge bid/ask spread in Pd now, resulting from its being thinly traded combined with recent parabolic volatility.
check the bid/ask spread atop https://www.kitco.com/charts/livepalladium.html -- $200 freaking dollar spread. Compare to Au $1.00 spread, Ag 10 cents, & Pt $5.00 spread! :o
The quote services like kitco & goldprice only plot the graphs of the lower bid price, but the "day's high" price reflects the highest ask price reached, & I think at least one futures contract buy must be executed at that price to be recorded.
So last night when goldprice was saying $2,611 high, & kitco $2,810 high, that's $199 apart, reflecting the going Pd bid/ask spread atm.

Palladium Record Prices Expose Central Banks NYMEX Trading
by jhanders
Tue, 01/21/2020 - 10:45
Late last week the financial world witnessed another record-setting palladium spot price denominated in fiat Federal Reserve notes.
The palladium price passed $2,500 oz USD intraday last Friday, January 17, 2020.
Ongoing palladium bullion shortages illustrate how attempts to control and contain precious metals prices, eventually end and even backfires into physical short-falls of supply, and exponential price runs higher as a result.

Re: Ohhhh Ahhhh Ohhhh! Palladium!
I recall seeing YT ch Edge of Wonder's Zach Vorhies interview part 1 last Nov, but missed when they pub'd part 2, & just watched now. Includes his telling of the goog cold fusion story.
The whole 38 mins is worthwhile for context, but if ur in a rush the cold fusion bit begins around 22m. He notes a big component of keeping it seeeekrit is so not to contradict the climate change hoax hysteria... yes indeed.

I gather the final pt 3 is behind EOW's paywall... preview indicated it's re Zach's belief in Qanon & other bits...

Re: Ohhhh Ahhhh Ohhhh! Palladium!
^^ Good interview! ^^
I always thought that the end play re the palladium saga would be cold fusion or perhaps rumors of cold fusion (which I still find more likely)... $10k or perhaps even $50k, here we come...
Besides the fermi e-cat was using isotopes of Nickel as far as I can remember...

Should I hold onto my palladium or sell it?
I only have a single bar I bought for the hell of it, now I'm wishing I only bought Palladium over Gold/Silver.

It's an 11+ bagger at this time.
Maybe @ $5,000 frns.

I'm mostly interested in real estate now so I can get some cash flow.
Idaho real estate is booming now.
If you own 2-3+ homes outright you technically can retire on the rent money if you live frugally.

whajewpay? :(??
I'd say depends on ur overall financial sitch. If all comfy, no debt, then hold for higher $. If otherwise, sell it like a hot tater.
I'm still sitting on the ~80% which I didn't recently (Oct, IIRC) sell in the mid $1,600s.:'( But hey I'm a new car & RV owning/living pleb now ; which I'd originally envisioned driving to Canada to find Amazing Polly & consummate our already imagined long term relationship... but now instead I just... surf the web in my RV, whilst drinking & bong ripping my sorrows away... :'(
^ But we digress. Point was, I'm in no hurry to sell my remaining chunk of Pd here; if it 'collapses' it wouldn't change my lifestyle. Come to think of it, the FRNs I recently spent on car/RV, incl pound-of-FRN-flesh to CA in 'transfer tax', was darn near the same as my original 2004 physical Pd investment @ $220/oz! And those purchases (exchanging 'physical' for 'physical', we might say), only accounted for ~2/3 the proceeds of my Oct Pd sale!
Technical-analysis-ly, Pd's forming a nice tight little base/consolidation this past week, a 'flag', very bullish & I'd predict another fast spurt higher, maybe tagging $3K, which'd prompt me to drop another ~20/whatever %.

I heard it may take 1-2 years to retool to Platinum for manufacturing, which may continue the slide up of Palladium until then.
