Respected judge slams 'pathetic reaction to the indisputable recording'

MUMBAI, India (ChurchMilitant.com) - Bombay's cardinal archbishop, Oswald Gracias, has issued a video statement falsely claiming that the recently leaked phone call between him and the scandal-plagued bishop of Mysore, K. A. William, was maliciously doctored.

"I realized that the tape of my conversation has been mischievously edited to give the impression that there was collusion between Bp. William and myself for a cover-up," Cdl. Oswald Gracias said in a YouTube video released on Vianney Sunday.
Cardinal's Silence

"I categorically, emphatically and totally deny this in the interest of the truth and for the good of the Church. I am communicating with you directly," the cardinal emphasized.

Bishop William has been the target of a Vatican investigation over accusations of orchestrating the murder of four of his diocesan priests and for allegations of rape, kidnapping, embezzling diocesan and trust funds, and fathering illegitimate children with multiple mistresses.

Gracias deftly avoided, in his video statement, any comment on the status of the pending investigation. Likewise, he did not explain why the Vatican had thus far failed to act against Bp. William, despite several priests from Mysore phoning him to say that their lives were in danger.

"Cardinal Gracias' explanation is a sham and hollow.

Church Militant has obtained evidence of these phone calls but is not revealing them, to protect the identity of the sources.

The cardinal, a key consultor to Pope Francis, deliberately avoided naming Church Militant specifically. However, the cardinal could have been referring to no other media outlet — because it was Church Militant alone that received the 15-minute leaked phone call, edited it for length and then published on July 22.

It is not clear why Cdl. Gracias avoided specifically mentioning Church Militant. In response to Gracias' allegations of "mischievous editing," the entire phone conversation is being published in this story.

In the video, the cardinal admits he "did have a conversation with Bp. William in August 2020" and "during that conversation, [he] urged Bp. William that it would be advisable for him to do a paternity test."

"I said so then two years back, and I still think so," Gracias added. "At no time did I say or suggest that we can control the outcome of the tests. This possibility, my dear people, never, ever even crossed my mind."

Gracias, however, presents a red herring in saying Church Militant suggested that he would try and control the "outcome" of the tests themselves. What CM was reporting from the relevant portion of the phone call was the cardinal's following assurance of Bp. William:

I was thinking [we] will go to St. John's College, so we can control the media, control the doctors, control the publicity given to the whole thing. And it's a credible organization, no? So, so, they don't get it out.

It is clear Gracias sought to control every aspect of this scandal — that, in fact, is the very purpose of the phone call between him and Bp. William.

Facts Are Sacred

Even eminent judge Michael F. Saldanha told Church Militant he was "saddened by the pathetic reaction to the indisputable recording published by Church Militant — one of the world's most responsible channels where all facts are independently and forensically checked."

"I was a criminal lawyer of unblemished competence for 32 years and a judge for 16 years when I was listed among the world's 10 best judges," Saldanha said. "My hallmark was that I always double-checked facts myself. I harbored zero bias and got forensic confirmation before confirmation. Facts are sacred."

Saldanha, who retired from the Bombay and Karnataka high courts, elaborated:

Cardinal Gracias' explanation is sham and hollow. He acknowledges the phone call itself is authentic and that the finding of the Vatican, the nuncio and the cardinal himself is that the paternity test was absolutely essential to refute the adverse presumption and circumstantial evidence that seals his guilt.

Bishop William should have been suspended and dismissed. Why were they in collusion for two years and even now? What does he mean by "mischievous editing"? In this country, we are used to denials and politicians lying through their teeth. But for a prince of the Church to do it is unpardonable.

Saldanha wrote to India's apostolic nuncio, Abp. Leopoldo Girelli, on Monday, stating Bombay's cardinal archbishop, Oswald Gracias, is guilty of a "serious criminal offense, punishable with 10 years rigorous imprisonment."

The judge refers to the cardinal's attempt to arrange the DNA test at St. John's Medical College, a prestigious Catholic hospital in Bangalore, noting India's Supreme Court permits only the National Forensic Institute, Hyderabad, to legally conduct paternity tests.
Cheap Trick

"You have finally managed to get the cardinal out of the bunker," Martin D'Souza, a faithful Catholic and veteran journalist from Mumbai told Church Militant.

As a journalist with over 35 years' experience, I understand why any news media would clip parts to shorten it for the reader. This is standard practice, as anyone watching the news on TV or any video news editor will tell you.

There is a huge difference between edited and doctored. "Mischievous" editing entails altering the voice, adding something or falsifying an audio to misrepresent the original. Ironically, the cardinal could have published the unedited audio immediately after his YouTube broadcast but has asked interested parties to write to his media team for a copy.

Dominic Lobo, a member of the Association of Concerned Catholics who has been protesting daily since Church Militant broke the story, blasted Gracias for "employing a cheap trick designed to con the gullible."

"His response is to attack the format, i.e., the edited version of the phone call. What he doesn't do is address the substantive issues raised by the devastating Church Militant exposé, which has rocked the Catholic Church in India," Lobo observed.

"He is lying blatantly when he says he didn't intend to cover up the truth. If so, why does he repeatedly ask William if the 'line is safe' and if this is being kept confidential? Why has he not been transparent from the very beginning? And why has William still not taken a DNA test?" Lobo asked.

"I think the cardinal should speak the truth, because only the truth will set him free," D'Souza remarked.

Freedom Itself Is Gravely in Peril ⋆ Brownstone Institute

The FBI has raided Donald Trump’s home in Florida and opened a private safe, hanging around for hours looking for classified material that might be there. They were likely looking for items that Trump believed he had declassified – the president can do this with anything – but is still holding in his possession.

Top officials of the National Archives, the DOJ, and the FBI believed otherwise and thus sought the search warrant. If the New York Times is correct, then, this is really about state secrets. Trump wanted them public. Others inside the deep-state machinery disagreed.

The scene gives rise to images from societies without law and constitutions, places where regimes are merely juntas seeking plunder and revenge. In this case, the problem is complicated by a mass administrative state apparatus that lives outside the democratic process.

“Aides to President Biden,” reports the Times, “said they were stunned by the development and learned of it from Twitter.” This is likely true. But it gives rise to the more fundamental question: who is actually running government?

If we didn’t before realize the extent of the multivariate crisis gathering all around us, now is the time. It’s a time for analysis and understanding. It’s also the time to make a decision concerning what we are all going to do about it.

Even those of us who are not fans of Trump – I wrote one of the first articles from 2015 warning against his ideological leanings which later become a full book – see the deeper implications. The betting odds favor him for the presidency in 2024. Someone somewhere wants to make this impossible. So all the forces of the administrative state – the actual rulers of this country – have coalesced around crushing him and his legacy, Soviet like.

In the background of all of this is the real struggle that will define American politics for years to come. Two weeks before he left office in 2020, Trump issued an executive order that would have put a major dent in the power of the administrative state in this country, taking the first steps toward returning government to the people after a century in which it gradually slipped away.

In some people’s view, this is intolerable.

Trump, for all his failings, among which was green-lighting the lockdowns that started this social and economic crisis, has become over time a symbol of resistance. The raiding of his private home sends a message about who is in charge. It’s a warning for everyone. An intimidation tactic.

We are used to this but we should not become so.

Biden has once again declared a national emergency in the name of virus control. Such a declaration effectively enshrines the permanent bureaucracy to rule the country at all levels in whatever ways they desire, at least until courts stop them. The extension of the declaration hardly made the news.

Have we forgotten what normalcy is? It was only three years ago. Yes, there were political arguments and enormous problems but it still felt like a nation of laws with a government subject to the people.

Already, there was something in the air in mid-March 2020, something that suggested that everything was changed. Governments all over the world dared to do the unthinkable, partly under the influence that it happened in the US, and under a Republican administration. Countless millions found themselves locked in their homes. The churches were forcibly closed. Businesses and schools too.

You know the story. It was not only a sweeping use of state power without precedent. It foreshadowed dark times ahead. Here we are two-and-a-half years later and the state is on the march in ways we never imagined possible three years ago. The raiding of Trump’s home is but a sign and symbol: none of our homes are safe. And haven’t been for years now.

Even now, in the land of the free, people are being pressured to accept the shot or get fired. We all have unvaccinated friends who want to visit us but cannot because the US government blocks them. Our health authorities have only expressed regret in one area: for not having locked down more. And they are creating a bureaucratic machinery to make doing so next time more ferocious and better enforced.

All of this is taking place without a scrap of evidence that any of it makes any scientific and/or medical sense. The scientists who resist have been canceled. Only one view is permitted to ascend. Everyone with doubt is being marginalized and silenced.

Congress itself became addicted to authorizing trillions in spending, and they keep doing it again and again. This adds pressure on the Federal Reserve to enter the markets and buy the resulting debt with freshly printed money just as rates are being pushed up to clean up its disastrous balance sheet. No one knows, least of all the Fed, how long this grueling inflation will continue but regardless, the damage is done.

The labor markets, despite the propaganda from the White House, reveal alarming weakness. Fewer full-time jobs. More part-time jobs. More people with two jobs. And fewer workers overall, as labor-market participation and worker/population ratios fall and fall. Not only have these markets not recovered from lockdowns. The trends are getting worse, with fully one million dropped out completely from the labor force since March of 2022, which is highly suggestive of a demoralized workforce lacking in ambition and hope for the future.

Wages and salaries in real terms are falling more than the nominal rates can cover. There is a debate about whether we are in a recession because the GDP has fallen for two straight quarters. But looking at the broad trends, there can be no mistaking what is happening. American prosperity is fundamentally threatened. The relationship between freedom and prosperity is one of the most well-established truths in economic literature. It should not be surprising that both decline in tandem.

Complain too much and you will find yourself without a voice on social media. The tech companies developed a deep relationship with the administrative state over the last two years, corresponding with each other, sharing insights, making enemies lists, and silencing dissidents of all sorts.

Clearly, the lockdowns did not achieve the goal, as the virus came and has gradually become endemic regardless of external interventions including mass vaccination mandates. What they did do was test society’s tolerance for despotism. Tragically, they got away with it all, much more easily than most of us might have expected.

Even now, even though the ruling class has never been less popular with the public, too many have adapted to the new normal. For many people, this is by necessity: what, after all, can anyone really do when freedom is slipping away and even core functioning of civilization (safe streets, vibrant cities, class mobility) is something we can no longer take for granted?

Let history record that lockdowns triggered this. All of it. Yes, there were problems before but they seemed within the realm of fixable. There appeared to be in the old days (three years ago) some relationship between public opinion and regime priorities. That was blown away with lockdowns. Now it is no longer clear whether and to what extent public opinion matters at all to the masters and commanders of our societies. They are leading us to ever greater crises and yet we feel powerless to do anything about it.

In the most incredible of ironies, it was Trump himself, now targeted for destruction by the bureaucrats he sought to control, who enabled this in the dreadful year of 2020. Realizing but never admitting his error, he flipped in the other direction late in the season, arguing for openness and normalcy. But it was too late. He already lost control, as Deborah Birx’s book makes clear. The deep state that he had loathed needed to prove its hegemony. This raid on his own home underscores the point.

One read of history is that such times lead inexorably to the forward march of tyranny. Certainly interwar political history teaches us this. The crisis in Germany began in an economic crisis that cried out for a strongman, but Germany was hardly alone in this. The same inexorable push toward centralization and against freedom took place the world over in these horrible years: Spain, Italy, France, China, the US.

Read the popular and scholarly literature from the early 1930s: freedom and democracy was out and central planning was in. I read all of this in college and was grateful that those days were gone forever. We are so much more enlightened now! How wrong I was. The same themes are back again today as entrenched elites clamor to hold on to power regardless of public opinion.

In the 1930s, the extremist political left threatened many countries and the extremist political right arrived to prevent that from happening and then erected their own despotisms, always under the cover of emergency.. It became a kind of civil war between two opposing camps with their own plans for people’s lives. Freedom was lost in the struggle.

We had hoped those days were long behind us. But the allure of power has proven too tempting for the worst among us. We are all watching as all the things we love – the way of life that many generations have fought to protect – are being swept away. And it is happening with not nearly enough explanation or protest.

These are not the most terrifying times in history but they are among the most terrifying in our lifetimes in the West. Where are the parties and movements that defend freedom as a first principle? Where are the successors to Voltaire, Locke, Goethe, Paine, and Jefferson, among the many great thinkers who sacrificed so much for the liberal vision of a social order in which people manage their own lives?

Such people are here, many of them writing for Brownstone among other venues, and producing books and podcasts to get around the opinion cartel being built by censors public and private.

What difference can they make and how? This much is true: what man has made, man can unmake and make something new: a new Magna Carta, whether formal or de facto. The urgency has never been more intense. A state without an acquiescing populace is powerless in the end. But not without struggle. And that struggle is ultimately an intellectual one. It’s about what we believe and what kind of society we want to live in.

Our prayer today should be for freedom above all else, a society and a world in which powerful elites do not rule the rest of us and forever fight amongst themselves for the right to do so, with the people deployed as fodder in their struggles, and while hope and prosperity slip ever deeper into memory.

These are very dangerous times, with a toxic mix as backdrop: a growing economic crisis, a spitefully supercilious ruling class, and a vengeful administrative state determined to crush all enemies before it. Something has got to give. May the USA defy the historical odds, find its way back to simple liberty, and begin to restore what has been lost so dramatically and so quickly. Otherwise, all truth will be declared a state secret and our homes will never be safe from invasion.

I like Mr. Tucker's articles but I see that he is a libertarian and that is wrong from a Christian worldview. I do not think the lockdowns caused our present communist demise, but they were a major trigger for a more dangerous phase.

There are a few people who believe that a "devolution" plan has been at work through all of this and that somehow this raid on the president's private home is a planned goof checkmate play. I hope that is true but it would seem the "PLANdemic" was also a play on the chessboard but there is no way that is part of a good devolution plan to end the Deep State.

The NY Post ran a story yesterday headlined, “Judge Who OK’d Mar-a-Lago Raid Obama Donor Once Linked To Jeffrey Epstein.” It includes a good summary of what is now known about the magistrate.

Bruce Reinhart donated to President Obama’s campaign, made a small donation to Trump’s primary opponent Jeb Bush in 2016, and in 2017, posted anti-Trump comments and woke content on his Facebook page. All together, just this much was probably enough that Reinhart should have recused himself from the Trump warrant.

But in fact, just two months ago, Reinhart ALREADY recused himself from Trump’s lawsuit against Hilary Clinton filed earlier this year.

For context, here Reinhart is in a 2007 photo from his Facebook page:

Back in 2007, Reinhart was an assistant U.S. Attorney in the Southern District U.S. Attorney’s office, which was then prosecuting the Jeffrey Epstein case. According to court documents, Reinhart abruptly and without warning resigned on January 1st, 2008, and the very next day on January 2nd, he switched sides and started representing several of Jeffrey Epstein’s lieutenants and co-conspirators.

In fact, two of Epstein’s victims would later sue Reinhart, accusing him of violating Justice Department policies by switching sides in the middle of the Epstein investigation, suggesting he had spilled inside information about the probe to Epstein, which is why the infamous pedophile hired him to represent his co-defendants.

In a 2013 court filing, Reinhart’s former colleagues at the U.S. Attorney’s office testified that Reinhart had in fact “learned confidential, non-public information about the Epstein matter” while employed by the US Attorney’s Office. Reinhart denied it, of course, and the civil case against him was ultimately dismissed by the Justice Department. And the wheels of government spun on.

In the 2008 Epstein case, Reinhart represented Epstein’s pilots; his scheduler, Sarah Kellen, who arranged “massages” — up to three a day — where Epstein would rape his victims, according to witnesses; and Nadia Marcinkova, who Epstein once reportedly described as his “Yugoslavian sex slave,” but who is described in legal documents as Epstein’s collaborator, co-conspirator, and procurer.

Reinhart helped his clients get complete immunity from the government, in a controversial 2007 deal with federal prosecutors that also allowed Epstein to plead guilty to lesser state charges rather than any of the more serious federal crimes.

In March 2018, Reinhart was hired as a Magistrate Judge for the Southern District.

It’s a fair question to ask how Reinhart got assigned to the case. According to criminal defense attorneys who practice in the Southern District, magistrate judges are assigned to warrant duty on a weekly rotation and the schedules are published in advance. DOJ prosecutors can time when they file for the search warrant to get whatever judge they want.

Last month, legendary financial and geopolitical cycle analyst Martin Armstrong said the time to prepare is now for the chaos that is coming in 2023. The destabilization of America has been kicked into high gear early with the FBI raid on President Trump’s Florida home this week. Armstrong explains, “This really is unprecedented . . . . In the United States, we are supposed to have civilized transfer of power. That’s all coming to an end. I am not being dramatic here. From a legal perspective, this is completely unprecedented. The danger of this is once they have done this, if the Republicans are ever allowed to get back into power, they would only end up doing the same thing to the Democrats. . . . It’s striking a real deathblow to the very idea of a democracy. We are not, at least we were not until today, someplace like Guatemala where you throw the opposition in jail, kill them or whatever you do. This is what’s going on. They are so afraid of Trump running in 2024 that this is just over the top. Once they did this, there is no end.”

Armstrong says the Democrats are in “dire straits” at the polls–and they know it. Armstrong thinks the Trump raid by the FBI is an act of desperation, and it will “backfire,” but that’s not the only play in the Democrat playbook for the midterms in November. Armstrong says, “I have been warned that the Democrats have been maneuvering, and the reason they are allowing all the illegal aliens to come in is they intend to allow them to vote. You already had the Justice Department go after one state that said you had to prove you are an American to vote, and they filed a suit against them saying that they violated their civil rights. At that stage of the game, hey, all of Europe, Australia, everybody should just send in a vote.”

Armstrong’s says forget what the mainstream polls are saying about voter support for Democrats and Joe Biden because the real numbers are much lower than the public is told. Armstrong’s “Socrates” computer program shows Joe Biden has just 12% of support in America. Maybe this is why Democrats are desperate and realize they have to cheat and break the law to stay in power. It’s not going to get any better, and the entire world is in the same sinking boat. Armstrong says, “We basically are sitting here in the middle of the collapse of Western civilization. It’s socialism that is collapsing because these people have done nothing but borrow money to bribe them to vote for them . . . There is no way to pay it back, and they had no intention of paying it back. . . . Europe is, just forget it. You have emerging markets collapsing around the world because to sell their debt, they had to put it into dollars. Sri Lanka, Lebanon, Pakistan, Argentina are falling apart on a global scale.”

Armstrong thinks the dollar will be strong for now and not to expect a collapse in the USA anytime soon because America will be the last man standing. That said, Armstrong does see the possibility of a “stock market collapse in September.” Armstrong is also “worried about civil war or extreme civil unrest in 2023 in America.” Armstrong is seeing a “world war coming in 2024 or after.”

Armstrong also said, “My computer warns that there may not even be an election in America in 2024. It’s reaching that critical period. So, this raid on Trump is like throwing down the gauntlet. Everything is gone.”

Are we allowed to point out today that communism is (present tense) the most barbaric, however intellectually justified, form of despotism that man has ever practiced?

To fully do justice to this historically verifiable fact requires knowledge or goodwill, or both, of the role Western intellectuals continue to play (present tense) in the expansion and nursing of communism in its many guises.

Only people who are ignorant of twentieth-century history and pampered leftist academics believe that the fall of the Iron Curtain would free communism, once and for all, from the shackles of Stalinism. Like a chameleon, the communist despotism the world witnessed during the Cold War continues to change color in order to survive as a system of power-grab.

What has not changed is the intellectualized power struggle between old-time communists, the new left, glassy-eyed utopian socialists, Bolshevism, Leninism, Trotskyism, Stalinism, Maoism, woke academic, social justice theorists of communism, and… The list is extensive and continues to expand in postmodernity.

Currently, there exists an allegiance between millionaire & billionaire elites, administrative state bureaucrats, tech oligarchs, old-guard communists, postmodern, latte-drinking hipsters, academic useful idiots, aberrant sex and gender Marxists, Marxists greens, and a slew of other opportunist sociopaths.

How long will this convenient allegiance last?

How long can this off-color experiment in grotesque social-political pathology go on for? How much more abuse and exploitation of democratic institutions can take place before the goose that laid the golden egg implodes? Is that also part of the Marxist plan to destroy Western democracies?

Historically, communism has proven that the winner takes all. Which of the many factions of leftism will consolidate power? What will the other factions do when they realize they have no share of the power…and worse?

For the time being, while this mutually-hating motley crew of sociopaths fights it out to claim hegemony over Western democracies, people of goodwill everywhere suffer the consequences of dysfunctional ideologues who are enamored with power.

What faction do the people behind university ‘cancel culture’ (censorship by any other name) belong to? Will the many, mutually-canceling factions of postmodern communism massacre each other in the end? Or, given that they are all made up of the same resentful and life-negating fabric, make up and begin building the gulag, where their alleged enemies, apolitical people of good will whose life is pre-political, are rounded up as cattle?

What faction do the mental-cultural Lilliputians who, after 11 years, will no longer permit justice Clarence Thomas to teach a class at George Washington University Law School belong to?

According to these woke zombies, Justice Thomas will make “life unsafe for thousands of students.” Imagine that. George Washington University Law School is an American institution of alleged higher learning. So, where are the best and brightest?

Which faction is behind the Bolshevik takeover of American medical schools? So many questions. A barbaric, morally-bankrupted leftist culture poses many questions for democratically-minded, unsuspecting people.

The Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) administers the Medical College Admission Test, which represents 171 US and Canadian Medical Schools.

The AAMC is responsible for creating standards – formerly known as higher standards of excellence. Today, the AAMC’s standards are those of radical ideologues, ‘social justice’ operatives of cultural and moral obfuscation. Doctors and medical school students cannot hide their horror, having witnessed the colorful euphemisms that leftists use to describe their communist agenda. Leftism operates with force and violence, not rhyme and reason.

What faction of communism places race, gender, and class warfare before healthcare, competency, and professionalism? Whichever faction this is, clearly, the barbarians have broken through the gates. Hippocrates must be screaming in his grave.

Medical malfeasance by any other name is criminal nonetheless. This is following in the communist model of a forcibly coerced communistic social order. In the Soviet Union and Soviet Bloc nations, state-run medicine was managed in the same manner as government stores that forced people to purchase the limited goods the government provided. The list of these was always capriciously spiteful of the needs that citizens actually desired. Why? Because communists understand that economic freedom translates into social-political liberty.

In communist Cuba, that despotic regime fabricates ‘medical professionals’ on demand, the same way it tried to force the production of sugarcane beyond the capacity that the land can produce. Imagine the sustainability of this rape of the land.

During the 1960 and ‘70s, Cuban medical ‘professionals,’ who are pitifully trained, were exported as state-owned indentured servants to North Vietnam, Angola, Grenada, etc., Today, internationalist communism takes them to Venezuela.

Under the Marxist takeover of American institutions of higher learning, medical school students will be forced to incorporate an ‘anti-racism’ mandate into their work that will enable doctors to pick and choose who the allegedly oppressed patients are. The others, well, they will be discriminated against in the name of social justice. Equality will be forged with hammer blows, according to the whims of radical ideologues.

What factions do the people who discriminate against Asian and Indian students in college admission tests belong to? The Supreme Court will have to decide soon.

These are students whose hard work and commitment to excellence reward them with high test scores. This is what meritocracy means. Marxists squash this aspect of human reality in the name of ‘equity,’ an assault on the human reality that turns the natural order on its head. The result? Untold violence perpetrated on the dignity of the human person.

The violence and brutality of communism in the twentieth-first century continues to be defined by the promotion of appearance to the order of Marxists’ social-political constructs. But, for how much longer?

The dumbing down of America by leftism will continue until it reaches a critical mass and the nation crumbles from within. At that point, leftists will consolidate power over the American citizenry, or they will run to the hills.

If you really want to understand the crazy and desperate actions of the Biden/Obama Administration, you have to know the real numbers. Not the numbers of the latest poll that shows President Biden with a 40% approval rating. The real numbers that the public never gets to see, because it’s secret behind the scenes research, is Bidens true approval rating. Biden’s true approval numbers are somewhere between 11% and 12%, according to my confidential source and Martin Armstrong’s “Socrates” data mining computer. If Biden’s real approval rating is not more than 12%, you can see why the Democrat party is panicked and in deep trouble. They must do something to look stronger than they really are because they cannot even begin to cheat their way to victory in the midterms and beyond. 12% approval means most of the Democrats will not even vote for Biden or any other Democrats, and the economy is not going to give them or anyone else a reason to do so anytime soon.

The raid on the Florida home of President Donald Trump is backfiring bigtime on the Biden/Obama administration. His poll numbers have shot up even higher, and he’s breaking records for campaign donations when he’s not even announced he’s running—yet. This is just another fake made up case like the so-called “Russian Collusion” brought to you by fake FISA warrants, spying by the FBI and a fake dossier paid for by Hillary Clinton. The public see’s this tor the political attack it is and not a legit law enforcement action by a corrupt Deep State that includes RINO Republicans and commie Democrats.

Inflation backed off a bit this month and went down to 8.5% year over year. President Biden was so desperate for good economic news he spun this to mean 0% inflation month over month. Of course, this is preposterous and not the way inflation is counted even with the gimmicks to make it look better than it is. John Williams of Shadowstats.com says the real inflation as it was counted before all the gimmicks is around 17%. Gasoline prices have come down a bit, but they are going back up as the supply of gasoline is down to lows not seen since the early 1990’s. Enjoy the lower gas prices while they last. So, inflation is down a bit for now, but not out.

The raid’s rationale remains unknown. Corporate media pundits speculated yesterday the raid was related to some “missing” National Archive documents Trump was supposed to have taken with him when he left office. In its article about the raid, for example, the Wall Street Journal noted that “Officials can face up to five years in prison for removing classified materials.” But that theory turned out to be a hot take and has mostly dried up since it emerged online that the documents had been returned to the National Archives weeks ago.

Neither DOJ or FBI commented, citing an ongoing investigation.

Trump wasn’t there when the FBI raid happened; he was in New York. President Trump’s lawyer Christina Bobb, who was present during the search, confirmed that federal agents “seized paper.” A statement from the former President said agents also broke into his safe. Eric Trump, who was on site, told reporters the safe was empty, nothing was found in it.

You could say nothing like this has ever happened before an election, but the truth is, nothing like this has ever happened before in U.S. history — period, full stop. Not before, during, or after an election. It’s new territory, a brave new post-Covid world, a great reset of our of representative republic.

It is impossible to underestimate how politically significant this raid will be.

In a two-page letter released after the raid, President Trump used the term “banana republic,” and he’s not wrong. There’s a reason why former presidents have always been off-limits for criminal prosecution despite there being plenty of reasons to investigate each and every one of them. Take Biden for example. The contents of Hunter’s laptop, plus Hunter’s former business partner’s testimony, provide plenty of justification for a potentially momentous investigation of the Resident in Chief by a subsequent administration.

If the Justice Department is going to pin its raid on “improperly removed documents,” then folks will have a LOT of questions about why Bill Clinton was never prosecuted. And don’t even get me started on Hilary Clinton’s mishandling of classified documents and her private classified email server — which were also never prosecuted. The FBI credulously accepted Clinton’s explanation of ignorance of the law and cheerfully overlooked her bleach-bitted evidence destruction.

People are understandably doubtful about the raid, because there’s already a storied history of failed prosecution attempts against Trump. From Russia-gate to two impeachment cases — one for an allegedly mis-handled call with Ukraine where Trump wanted a certain former vice-president investigated, who is now directing the investigation against Trump. Not to mention that the Trump investigation is being run by an Attorney General who Trump rejected for the Supreme Court. No conflicts of interest there! Now consider how the FBI has lately been exposed selectively prosecuting Biden’s political adversaries, and has been outed for manufacturing evidence, like in Gretchen Whitmer’s “kidnapping” case.

Coincidentally, Stephen D’Antuono, the same FBI agent who led the Detroit field office during the embarrassing Gretchen Whitmer kidnapping-manufacturing evidence scandal, did such a bang-up job that he was promoted to lead the Washington D.C. office as the pandemic got under way in 2020. The FBI’s Washington D.C. office is almost certainly the same office that is now handling the Trump investigation and the raid.

So.

As it happens, I recently sued a city and its police department over what is alleged to have been a politically-motivated SWAT raid that seized electronics. That was just a local affair. In order to execute a highest-profile search like this one against former President Trump, a bunch of important high-level stuff had to happen, and a lot of top-level Biden Administration officials must have been involved.

First, a senior FBI agent had to swear out an affidavit of probable cause that would support a search. As a history-making search, it is almost certain that both FBI Director Chris Wray and Attorney General Merrick Garland had to sign off on it, and may even have presented it to the court together. A federal judge had to review and approve the affidavit. We’ll eventually find out which judge it was, and I’ll bet you an all-expenses paid trip to Taiwan on Nancy Pelosi’s jet that the judge was appointed by a democrat president.

The judge would have asked the DOJ why a simple investigatory subpoena or ordinary search warrant couldn’t get the job done, and the DOJ would have to explain a concrete basis for the surprise raid that would overcome the Fourth Amendment concerns, not to mention the vast political implications. The FBI would have had to swear, for example, that they were seriously concerned about material evidence being destroyed, the documentary equivalent of a baggie of meth flushed down the john.

Even many lefty pundits recognize that this is a Rubicon moment, a kind of point of no return. The Rubicon metaphor is particularly apt, because when he crossed that river, Julius Caesar was on his way to deposing its democratic government becoming the dictator for life of the Roman Empire.

Yesterday on CNN Tonight, controversial anti-Trump Trump aide Alyssa Farah Griffin warned, “I hope that DOJ went about this meticulously and that there is a ‘there’ there because if not, it will tear the country apart.” She continued, “You [are] already seeing it, the rhetoric already that’s coming out from my fellow Republicans, and I’m really hoping that this was done for a credible reason and that it goes somewhere.”

If ANY reason is good enough, it better be a lot more solid than just a “credible” reason.

The Washington Examiner’s op-ed ran after 10m last night and concluded “You don’t have to be fond of Trump to realize what a dark turn of events this is … They are bringing our country right up to the edge of the Third World. It’s pretty scary stuff.”

I’d say they’ve leapt off the edge with bells on.

Obviously, there hasn’t been much time to process events, and conservative voices are just getting going. Echoing Trump’s letter, Governor DeSantis also referred to Banana Republics in his response tweet:

Atlantic Article Blasts the Holy Rosary as ‘An Extremist Symbol’

In what was probably an unwitting stroke of perfect timing, the Atlantic published an article claiming the Holy Rosary is an “extremist symbol” on the Vigil of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

The article set off a firestorm of Tweets, memes, and article-length responses from angered Catholics. In the space of a few hours, the editors reworked the title no fewer than three times, reportedly in response to the backlash. The original title read “How the Rosary Became an Extremist Symbol,” the second iteration, “How Gun-Culture Co-Opted the Rosary,” and a third, “How Extremist Gun Culture is Trying to Co-Opt the Rosary.”

An Extremist Weapon

In the article, author Daniel Panneton claims that Catholic traditionalists on an extremist fringe have taken the “spiritual notion” that the Rosary is a weapon and literalized it.

The implication is that, like the AR-15, the 15-decade Rosary could be a signal that a Catholic is stockpiling weapons, prepping for Doomsday, and plotting violent attacks on abortion facilities.

Panneton is no stranger to wide-ranging essays linking conservatives, Catholics, and Christians to violent anti-Christian movements, as in his May 2022 piece “The White Supremacist Past – and Present – of Canada’s Anti-Abortion Movement.”

In 2017 Italian journalist Massimo Faggioli coined the term “Catholic cyber-militia” to describe small groups and individuals – including Michael Voris of Church Militant and Fr. John Zuhlsdorf – protesting the appearance of Fr. James Martin, SJ, at Washington Theological College. Panneton latches on to Faggioli’s phrase and runs with it, implying that this cyber-militia “could be” fomenting an actual militia with Rosaries wrapped around their guns.

Can Panneton link men like Voris and Zuhlsdorf to actual instances of violence? No. But he doesn’t have to in order to get his point across.

It quickly becomes clear that Panneton traffics in innuendo more than evidence. While he provides many links as evidence, they are links to nowhere. He claims that “the far right’s constellations of violent, racist, and homophobic online milieus are well documented for providing a pathway to radicalization and real-world terrorist attacks.” His source for this particular claim is a May 2022 New Yorker piece that profiles two “right-wing” mass shooters, neither of whom had any ties to Catholicism or the Rosary.

Word Salad

Panneton’s main argument seems to be that words are weapons, and Catholics who use words like “battle,” “combat,” “warfare,” and “Church militant,” are at high risk for radicalization.

Catholics know there is no shortage of battle-themed language in our most ancient texts. From Ephesians to Our Lady of Fatima, we hear that Jesus Christ came as the victor in the war against evil. Panneton seems to have run a word-search on Catholic organizations in his search for connections to violence.

One of his few primary-source links sends readers to Fr. Richard Heilman’s Roman Catholic Gear online store, which sells a “Combat Rosary” among other military-themed Catholic devotional items.

Panneton offers the Swiss Guard up for scrutiny, linking back to their 2016 swearing-in ceremony for which Roman Catholic Gear donated 150 Combat Rosaries. The Commander of the Guard said, “He sent the Swiss Guard the most powerful weapon that exists on the market: the ‘Combat Rosary’, Literally, the Rosary for the fight.”

Panneton characterizes the Guard – alongside Bishop Olmsted’s 2015 apostolic exhortation “Into the Breach” and the Knights of Columbus’ follow-up video series – as “militarism.”

Dabbling in Doubt

Without actually accusing any of these organizations or leaders of themselves being extremist, Panneton warns that “among radical-traditional Catholic men, such concerns take an extremist turn, rooted in fantasies of violently defending one’s family and church from marauders.”

Actual evidence of these fantasies is sparse, however, so Panneton covers himself with preverification and bigoted undertones. He casts enough shadows and doubts to walk his reader from a place of genuine curiosity about Rosary-wielding nuns and friars to a place of distrust if not outright fear of the underground violent extremists they may represent.

Predictably, Panneton sees as his coup-de-grace the connection he makes between Rosary-toting traditionalists and the fall of Roe vs. Wade.

“The pro-choice protests that followed the leaked early draft of the Supreme Court decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which overturned Roe v. Wade, led to a profusion of social-media posts on the far right fantasizing about killing activists, and such forums responded to Pride month this year with extremist homophobic and transphobic ‘groomer’ discourse.”

An Ironic Twist

The irony, of course, that the vast majority of terror attacks on U.S. soil since the Dobbs opinion was leaked have been pro-abortion groups’ attacks on Catholic churches and pregnancy care centers. In Canada, meanwhile, a recently released report shows that the largest growth in targeted crime – a 260% increase – between 2020 and 2021 was against Catholics.

Whatever untold fury Panneton might uncover in the secret, twisted hearts of Catholic church ladies in their “Legions of Mary” (note the militarist title!), the fact is that the actual violence committed has not been against Leftist activists or Pride paraders but against the people who are most likely to be regularly praying the Rosary.

And how do these Rosary-wielding Catholics respond when abortionists and their clinics are attacked? With unqualified condemnation.

Put Down Your Weapons!

In a wild conclusion, Panneton reminds Catholics that they “are taught to love and forgive their enemies,” and “that to do otherwise is a sin.”

“The ‘battle beads’ culture of spiritual warfare,” he says, “permits radical-traditional Catholics literally to demonize their political opponents and regard the use of armed force against them as sanctified. The sacramental rosary isn’t just a spiritual weapon but one that comes with physical ammunition.”

Absent concrete evidence it is hard to take his words in themselves seriously. What is of great concern, however, is that a well-respected journal like The Atlantic would publish such an attack on any religion’s sacred objects.

As Rod Dreher of The American Conservative pointed out, “I wonder what The Atlantic would say if a writer approached its editors and proposed writing a piece about how big beards on Muslim men are a tip-off that they might have terrorism in mind? Actually I don’t wonder that at all. We know exactly what The Atlantic would say — and they would be right to do so!”

Panneton is not a serious journalist, but he is a serious propagandist, teaching his readers to glance fearfully at the friar with a Rosary on his belt or cast a suspicious eye on the family out for a walk with their Rosaries. They are, after all, potential terrorists.

In publishing Panneton’s piece, The Atlantic editors chose to lend a veneer of respectability to America’s last acceptable bigotry, anti-Catholicism.

I received the following as an email from Project Veritas today. It tells of a "leaked" bulletin that was meant to be distributed only within the Department of Homeland Security DHS.

Every statement in this bulletin a LIE, or what I call Dragon-Speak. A twisted way of constructing speech so as to deceive and confuse and destroy fact and truth.

This bulletin was INTENDED NY THE TO BE LEAKED and that is why it appears to warn against the leak of this document. (We will never know if this was a true leak or a deliberate fake leak but it makes no difference. Our reaction to the garbage contents is all that is wanted.) That inverted language is part of the BAITING of a public reaction that, no matter the possible nature of that public reaction, it can be used by the DHS to further their lie, kill, steal and destroy strategies.

One could say this bulletin is the psychological defense mechanism of PROJECTION ON STEROIDS. Accuse everyone that is "not them" to be opponents and enemies and Domestic Violent Extremists [DVEs].

It names several infractions committed by "not them" that are exactly the infraction that "they" are committing and perpetrating. Project their on wrongdoing on to "not them", whoever "they vaguely identify today as "not them."

A special word about the word "violent." They have their own definition of the word "violent" but they know that "not them" are likely to be triggered by this word and likely to bite the bait. To me, there are many forms of human behavior and speech that are EVIL and EVIL is always VIOLENT, regardless of the absence of physical harm.

[WASHINGTON, D.C. – Aug. 16, 2022] Project Veritas released a leaked document today from within the Department of Homeland Security which shows how federal agencies are reacting to the recent raid of President Trump’s Florida home.

In the document, the DHS warns of a heightened security risk for federal agents, specifically FBI agents, because of the Mar-a-Lago raid.

In addition to listing potential warning signs for Domestic Violent Extremists [DVEs], the DHS predicts that violent threats may continue to escalate this year.

“The threats we have observed, to date, underscore that DVEs [Domestic Violent Extremists] may view the 2022 midterm election as an additional flashpoint around which to escalate threats against perceived ideological opponents, including federal law enforcement personnel,” the document reads.

The document also appears to state that DVE ideology tends to be aligned with the ideas that “government overreach” and “election fraud” are a threat to the country.

“In recent years, DVEs adhering to different violent extremist ideologies have coalesced around perceptions of government overreach and election fraud to threaten and conduct violence. As a result of recent activities, we assess that potential targets of DVE violence moving forward could include law enforcement, judicial officials, individuals implicated in conspiracy theories, and perceived ideological opponents who challenge their worldview.”

The leaked material concludes with a warning to agents that the public should not know this information.

“Information contained in this intelligence bulletin is for official use only. No portion of this bulletin should be released to the media, the general public, or over nonsecure Internet servers. Release of this material could adversely affect or jeopardize investigative activities.”

Florida federal magistrate judge Bruce Reinhart, the Jeffrey Epstein-linked judge who signed off on the raid of Trump's Mar-a-Lago home, is a victim of anti-Semitism according to Politico.

The Miami Herald reported in 2019 that Reinhart went from prosecuting Jeffrey Epstein with kid gloves to representing his accused accomplices in one year and helped them "receive federal immunity for allegedly trafficking underage girls."

As The Daily Mail reported:
Reinhart was made a magistrate judge four years ago after spending 10 years in the private sector where he worked with Epstein's staff.

He helped the billionaire pedophile's pilots Larry Visoski, David Rodgers, Larry Morrison and Bill Hammond.

He also worked with scheduler Sarah Kellen and Nadia Marcinkova, who was known as his 'Yugoslavian sex slave'.

On New Year's Day 2008 he left his job at the South Florida US Attorney's Office and went to work with the employees the next day.
Just as Attorney General Merrick Garland and FBI Director Chris Wray responded to backlash over their raid by playing the victim, Politico is helping Reinhart play the victim as well.

The Florida federal magistrate judge who approved the FBI search of former President Donald Trump’s Palm Beach County residence has faced an onslaught of antisemitic attacks and threats online, some of which targeted the synagogue he belongs to.

Magistrate judge Bruce Reinhart, a board member at Temple Beth David in Palm Beach Gardens, has seen sustained antisemitic attacks on right wing message boards and other social media platforms like 4Chan since his name surfaced as the judge who signed off on the FBI’s warrant to search Mar-a-Lago.

Republicans, too, have been heavily critical of the judge, including Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), who questioned Reinhart’s impartiality during an appearance on Fox News earlier this week when he claimed: “They found some Obama donor judge, not even a judge, a magistrate, to give them the search warrant.”

"From recent protected disclosures, we have learned that FBI officials are pressuring agents to reclassify cases as ‘domestic violent extremism’ even if the cases do not meet the criteria for such a classification," Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) said in the letter. "Given the narrative pushed by the Biden administration that domestic violent extremism is the ‘greatest threat’ facing our country, revelation that the FBI may be artificially padding domestic terrorism data is scandalous."

"We have received accusations that FBI agents are bolstering the number of cases of DVEs to satisfy their superiors," Jordan continued. "For example, one whistleblower explained that because agents are not finding enough DVE cases, they are encouraged and incentivized to reclassify cases as DVE cases even though there is minimal, circumstantial evidence to support the reclassification."

"Another whistleblower—who led at least one high profile domestic terrorism investigation—stated that a field office Counterterrorism Assistant Special Agent in Charge and the FBI's Director of the Counterterrorism Division have pressured agents to move cases into the DVE category to hit self-created performance metrics," Jordan said. "According to whistleblowers, the FBI uses these metrics to dispense awards and promotions. Every whistleblower has called it an environment of 'pressure' within the FBI."

The 2024 Election Is Being Rigged Right Now In Plain Sight

The FBI raid on Trump’s home isn’t just about prosecuting the former president for Jan. 6, it’s about fixing the next presidential election.

The news cycle this week has been understandably dominated by the FBI’s raid on former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida, where armed agents were supposedly looking for classified documents the FBI believes were improperly removed from the White House at the end of Trump’s term, in violation of federal law.

But the FBI raid is just a piece of a much larger story that’s playing out in slow motion and in plain sight: the rigging of the 2024 presidential election.

Much like the 2020 election, which wasn’t stolen so much as rigged months in advance to give Joe Biden an advantage that all but guaranteed his victory, the 2024 election is being rigged to ensure that Trump either cannot run or, if he does run, cannot win.

First, consider the FBI raid. No serious person believes that a documents dispute was the real purpose of the raid. The idea that the FBI would search the home of a former president and potential 2024 GOP candidate over an ongoing (and not uncommon) disagreement over presidential records with the National Archives is absurd on its face.

In his brief and self-congratulatory press conference Thursday, Attorney General Merrick Garland said he personally authorized the search on Trump’s home, that the Justice Department “does not take such a decision lightly,” and that it always seeks to use a “less intrusive means as an alternative to a search, and to narrowly scope any search that is undertaken.”

But if that were true, it more or less rules out the theory that the FBI was looking for classified documents. The disagreement between the National Archives and Trump has been ongoing for months, and Trump’s lawyers have been cooperating with the relevant authorities. Raiding Trump’s private residence over that — and in the process triggering a political crisis — makes zero sense.

As some expert observers have pointed out, including my colleague Margot Cleveland, a far more plausible explanation is that the FBI was perhaps on a fishing expedition, looking for evidence that could implicate Trump in the Jan. 6 riot. It’s no secret that Democrats and the Jan. 6 Committee want Garland to charge Trump with “seditious conspiracy” in hopes of making it impossible for Trump to run in 2024. In that case, a documents dispute with the National Archives would be nothing more than a flimsy pretext to get into Trump’s residence and look for incriminating evidence related to Jan. 6.

The raid and its possible role in the schemes of the Jan. 6 Committee, though, are part of a larger effort underway to recreate the conditions of 2020, just in case Trump escapes indictment and does run. This week, Twitter announced it would begin enforcing its Civics Integrity Project for the 2022 midterms: “This means we’ll take action against misleading claims about the voting process, misleading content intended to intimidate or dissuade people from participating in the election, or misleading claims that may undermine public confidence in elections outcomes.”

And what that means, in light of Twitter’s past behavior around election time, is that anyone who questions the voting processes or outcomes, however justifiably and no matter what irregularities are afoot, will be shut down by Twitter.

The targets here are painstakingly clear: Trump voters who believe, rightly, that the 2020 election was riddled with irregularities, last-minute changes to voting rules, and absentee ballot fraud. The best way to understand Twitter’s midterm elections policy, which is itself a preview of its 2024 policy, is that anyone who complains about universal absentee voting, ballot harvesting, remote ballot drop boxes, loose voter ID rules, or any other Democrat-favored policies that are known to make elections less secure will be silenced on Twitter.

Why? Because Democrats plan to run the same play in 2024 they ran in 2020, and their allies in Big Tech don’t want anyone pointing it out.

The irony here is that Twitter itself was perhaps the single greatest source of disinformation in the 2020 election. By quashing the New York Post’s valid and verified Hunter Biden laptop story just weeks before the election, and then locking the Post’s account (along with some people who tried to tweet the Post’s reporting on the laptop, including White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany), Twitter arguably tipped the balance of the election. It brazenly hid a story from its users that, had they seen it, would have been quite damaging to Biden and certainly would have caused some people to change their votes.

In addition to the machinations of Big Tech, nonprofit groups run by Democrat operatives have not stopped their schemes to boost voter turnout in Democrat-heavy areas under the guise of nonpartisan voter registration drives and voter roll update efforts.

As my colleague Victoria Marshall reported this week, a voter-roll management system used by 31 states and the District of Columbia is sharing voter registration data with the Mark Zuckerberg-funded Center for Election Innovation and Research (CEIR), one of two leftist groups that funneled $419 million to local election offices for the purpose of driving up Democrat voter turnout in 2020.

The system, called the Electronic Registration Information Center, or ERIC, is supposedly a convenient tool that simply allows states to update their voter rolls. But its real purpose, according to a recent report by independent research group Verity Vote, is to boost Democrat voter turnout by forwarding state voter roll data, including records from unregistered voters, to CEIR.

As Marshall reports, “CEIR then develops targeted mailing lists and sends them back to the states to use for voter registration outreach. As part of their agreement with ERIC, states are not allowed to disclose any data they send to nor receive from ERIC, however, ERIC is not under the same constraints and is able to work with CEIR.”

In addition, it seems ERIC doesn’t exist to purge or update voter rolls so much as to inflate them, identifying 17 million new voters in 2020 compared to purging just 3 million from state voter rolls. Despite its failure to clean voter rolls, a majority of states are still using the system, which is run by a left-wing activist named David Becker. The purpose of ERIC by now is clear: It’s not about cleaning voter rolls but identifying and registering likely Democrat voters. And 31 states are using it.

This is just a sampling of what’s happening right now. The FBI raid on Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence has rightly captured headlines and provoked outrage this week, but understand that the same powerful people, companies, and nonprofits that conspired to rig the 2020 election are right now rigging the 2024 election, using many of the same tactics. They’re doing it because they think they can get away with it — and if Republicans don’t act now to stop them, they certainly will.

Few things could be more difficult than for a Novus Ordo priest to realize that, despite his sincere love of God and genuine piety, the religion to which he has been unwittingly adhering all his life is not in fact the Roman Catholic religion of time immemorial but a counterfeit concocted in the 20th century.

Probably the only thing more distressing still is the realization that, through no fault of his own, his ordination to the priesthood was most probably invalid, meaning he has never in his life offered a valid Mass nor granted a single valid absolution. Indeed, contemplating these things must be utterly horrific.

Although there are no doubt numerous Novus Ordo priests harboring similar suspicions, not many seriously investigate further, and even fewer still muster the courage to take the next step and resign from their diocese or leave their religious community so they can embrace real Catholicism and receive proper training and valid ordination from a sedevacantist bishop.

Nevertheless, there are some who do.

In the United States, Fr. Michael Oswalt, of the diocese of Rockford, Illinois, is one such exceptional soul. His 2009 letter “Rejecting the Imposter Church”, addressed to the clerics in his former diocese, is dynamite.

Another presbyter of the Vatican II Church who generously cooperated with God’s grace is Fr. Michael G. DeSaye of the diocese of Trenton, New Jersey. It is the latter who was (re-)ordained this past June 29, along with three others, by Bishops Donald Sanborn and Joseph Selway at Most Holy Trinity Seminary in Brooksville, Florida. Father, could you describe your time in the Novus Ordo? From the education you received, the formation; and what exactly was the last straw that was witnessed that made you come to the conclusion of sedevacantism? Did you, Father, grow up at a liberal Novus Ordo or a conservative Novus Ordo parish?

I grew up at a liberal Novus Ordo parish. I graduated from Novus Ordo elementary and secondary schools, and my experience at these schools was typical. My parents taught me the duty of attending Mass on Sundays and of going to Confession at least once a year; they also taught me to pray the rosary.

My formation in seminary in the Novus Ordo began at Catholic University of America, where I studied philosophy. The philosophy program was presented under the rubric of Modernism, in which philosophy is reduced to worldviews undergoing a transcendent evolutionary process. Despite this, the specific content of the philosophy courses was very good. I read Plato, Aristotle, Boethius, St. Augustine, St. Anselm, St. Bonaventure, and St. Thomas Aquinas. It was obvious to me that these philosophers were superior to Descartes, Kant, Hegel, and Heidegger. I wanted to read everything by St. Thomas Aquinas, and I thought that Descartes and the Rationalists were wrong.

My theology classes were at Mount Saint Mary’s Seminary in Emmitsburg, Maryland. These classes contained a fair amount of theological drivel from Joseph Ratzinger [Benedict XVI], Karol Wojtyła [John Paul II], Romano Guardini, Louis Bouyer, and other Modernists. Nevertheless, this material was also mixed with a large dose of St. Thomas Aquinas and St. Augustine. This is because, in the 1960s, the faculty at Mount Saint Mary’s decided to pursue an approach in which they would attempt to find continuity between a scholastic intellectual formation and the Vatican II program of priestly formation, instead of altogether rejecting scholastic formation, as other seminaries did.

I became interested in the traditional Mass in seminary, and tried to attend it whenever possible (secretly, of course, for fear of being expelled from seminary). I secretly taught myself Latin as best I could. I bought and read Fr. Anthony Cekada’s book Work of Human Hands. I intended to celebrate it as much as possible after ordination. I was under the impression that Ratzinger had given priests the freedom to do so.

In reality, despite Summorum Pontificum, no diocesan priest can freely celebrate the traditional Mass without being punished. At best, he could try to introduce it on occasional days as a marginal curiosity, as if he were a part-time curator of a liturgical museum. Even this is rarely tolerated, and is often punished. Under Jorge Bergoglio [Francis], there is no appeal from this punishment.

Within a few months after my Novus Ordo ordination, I knew that I had to stop celebrating the Novus Ordo Mass and identifying with the Vatican II religion. I did not know how I was going to do this, but I knew that I had to exercise my priesthood wherever traditional Catholicism was being exclusively preached and practiced. By that time, I had understood how evil Modernism was, and how I had unwittingly waded deep into the Modernist swamp by making many compromises with it. I hated celebrating the New Mass of 1969. I hated working for that religion. I knew that Vatican II contained error. I wanted to celebrate exclusively the traditional Mass, pray the traditional Divine Office, and thunder against the errors of Vatican II from the pulpit. But I did not know how to arrive at that point from where I was. I was confused on certain issues because I had become favorable to the position of the SSPX, about which I will discuss below.

In my final year in the Novus Ordo, by Divine Providence, I happened to be reading St. Robert Bellarmine, St. Francis de Sales, the Vatican Council (1870), and the encyclicals of more recent popes, all of which helped me conclude to the sedevacantist position. There was no “last straw” moment; I simply discovered, from reading these sources, that the chair of St. Peter is vacant in our times. What struck me in particular was the teaching on the Roman Pontiff as an indefectible rule of faith. It is contrary to the faith that the Roman Pontiff could teach error to the universal Church and promulgate bad Masses; whereas it is not contrary to the faith that there can be a lengthy period of a vacant see. By the grace of God, I found Most Holy Trinity Seminary on the internet, and reached out to Bishop Donald Sanborn.

What was it like celebrating the New Mass? Did your superiors persecute you for trying to search for the truth? What was the piety and formation of the modernist seminary like?

New Mass: I always hated the New Mass. I hated attending it as a layman, and my hatred for it grew greater when I was behind the altar as a Novus Ordo priest. The reason I put up with it was because I had assumed that something was wrong with me rather than with the Mass; I thought that, over time, I would grow to see the wisdom of the Church in instituting the Novus Ordo. But as I studied it more and more, I realized that the Novus Ordo is the liturgical instantiation of Modernism; it is not a Catholic rite at all. It is something conceived and born in Modernism. I realized that my original aversion for the Novus Ordo was legitimate. It is the same aversion that any Catholic should have for a heretical rite.

Persecution: I was excommunicated for rejecting Vatican II and declaring myself a sedevacantist, but this is obviously a null and void excommunication. I did not suffer as a result of this excommunication, since I did not intend to receive sacraments from the Modernist Novus Ordo religion, nor do I intend to have anything to do with the Novus Ordo ever again.

Modernist Seminary: A polarization exists in the Novus Ordo between liberals and conservatives. People should understand that seminaries in the Novus Ordo operate on a scale of liberal to conservative; there is no “standard” Novus Ordo seminary. Theological College (where I attended for philosophy) is a very liberal seminary. As far as pious customs were concerned, I remember there being one optional Holy Hour once a month. The daily Rosary was not encouraged. Visits to the Blessed Sacrament were not encouraged. Meditation was once a month, during which most of us took a nap. Confession was whenever you felt like it. Marian piety was nonexistent. Vice was rewarded, and virtue punished. Spiritual direction was modern psychoanalysis. Mount Saint Mary’s Seminary in Emmitsburg (where I attended for theology) is a very conservative seminary. They had two Holy Hours per day with daily Benediction; seminarians were strongly encouraged to attend one of them. Daily meditation was encouraged. Confession was mandatory at least once every two weeks. Daily Rosary was very strongly encouraged; Marian piety was fostered publicly and encouraged by the faculty. Daily spiritual reading of saints was encouraged. Vice was punished and virtue rewarded. Other seminaries fall somewhere between this spectrum.

Do you, Father, have any apostolates you wish to start in the U.S., such as missions or Mass runs? Keeping in mind for the audience that this needs permission from the Bishop.

If there is a desire somewhere for a traditional priest, Roman Catholic Institute would be happy to consider the request. These requests are considered on a case-by-case basis, and always discussed with His Excellency Bishop Sanborn and the other priests of the Institute before any commitment can be made. My desire currently is to support Most Holy Trinity Seminary, Queen of All Saints Academy and Chapel, and the other apostolates of Roman Catholic Institute.

Fr. Michael Oswalt, when he was a Novus Ordo priest, had moments when the apostasy of Vatican II really showed through the normal life of the Novus Ordo, doctrinally speaking. Myself, the interviewer, remember coming across the Arian heresy at my old parish from catechists. Were there any major heresies or errors that you came across, Father, as a priest or layman during your days in the Novus Ordo?

There is heresy everywhere in the Novus Ordo. I came across heresies so frequently that I cannot possibly list them all here — usually from the clergy, not the laity. The Novus Ordo religion is Modernism, which welcomes and celebrates all heresies. Sixty years of Modernism has produced a situation in which nearly every error conceivable can be found in Novus Ordo parishes. The most common error found in the Novus Ordo is a rejection of the Church’s indefectibility. On the one hand, Novus Ordo liberals perceive the “pre-Vatican II Church” as a hopelessly defective Church in need of ongoing reform: a stale, rigid, and encrusted Church in need of constant aggiornamento [updating], opening the windows, etc. On the other hand, Novus Ordo conservatives perceive the “post-Vatican II Church” as a hopelessly defective Church in need of a reform back to the way it was. They see the present Church as a liberal and immoral Church plagued by scandal, in need of a return to its old doctrine, its traditional worship, and its old laws. But whether one is liberal or conservative, the Novus Ordite fundamentally accepts the principle of a defected Church, a principle which is entirely Protestant.

Father, who is your most disliked Novus Ordo music composer — Marty Haugen, David Haas, or Michael Joncas (“On Eagle’s Wings”)?

I passionately dislike all music composed for the Novus Ordo without exception. Nothing edifying exists in that repertoire whatsoever. Could you imagine St. Pius X or St. John Vianney humming along to Marty Haugen while at the altar? Such music is sickening; not worthy of man or beast. Great music ennobles the soul and helps raise it to the contemplation of higher things. Chant and polyphony (which is a development and descendant of chant) are the only suitable forms of music for the sacred liturgy.

Father, what do you have to say to the clergy remaining in the Vatican II religion? Why and how should they abandon the errors of Vatican II? Is there a reading list of some sort to show how Vatican II is wrong?

Errors of V2: We are presently working on an article exposing the errors of Vatican II in great detail. It is nearly finished, and we hope to publish it soon. There is a great deal of written material already available on our website, mostholytrinityseminary.org. Many sermons, classes, and spiritual conferences are available on our YouTube channel, Roman Catholic Media.

No Catholic — priest or layman — may assent to Vatican II, for to assent to error is to abandon the faith. No Catholic may ever abandon the faith for any reason, for we promise at baptism to preserve it unstained until heaven. Catholics must reject Vatican II not only privately, but publicly. For to publicly assent to the council, while privately rejecting it, is hypocrisy: it is a sin of bearing false witness.

To accept Vatican II as a valid council is also to accept the false popes of Vatican II as true popes. Therefore, a rejection of Vatican II is also a rejection of the authority of the men who promulgated it as false authorities. No priest who rejects Vatican II may consider himself to operate under the hierarchy of Bergoglio. He must call his bishop and declare that the Catholic faith requires him to profess the non-authority of Bergoglio, and that the Church is currently in a condition of sede vacante [the Holy See is vacant]. Whatever consequences follow, he must be willing to suffer these crosses. God never denies us the grace to do what faith requires of us. In fact, He blesses those who suffer for the sake of the truth. I would also insist that mortification, fervent daily prayer, a firm purpose of avoiding all sin, and a devotion to Our Lady, with the daily Rosary, are morally necessary to break from the Novus Ordo.

Abandoning Vatican II: The laity ought to abandon it by completely severing from the structures of the Novus Ordo. They should not receive sacraments from priests in union with Bergoglio; they should seek to receive them from priests who are validly ordained and not in union with him. They must also verify that the priest from whom they receive sacraments received good training at a reputable traditional seminary, for there are many men out there claiming to be Catholic priests operating independent chapels who have had little or no training, and who may not even be real priests.

Novus Ordo priests ought to abandon Vatican II in the form of a phone call to their bishop and resignation from their diocese. On a personal note, it was emotionally difficult coming to terms with the invalidity of the Novus Ordo episcopal consecration, and the consequent invalidity of my own priestly ordination in the Novus Ordo. But this is merely another example of the far-reaching poison of Modernism. Modernists are not content with the perversion of mere doctrine, but relentlessly press on to the dismantling of the sacraments and the entire moral order. For they regard everything that is holy in our beautiful religion as clay, to be broken, melted down, and re-fashioned into hideous monsters of their own imaginings. It is necessary for Novus Ordo priests and bishops to come to terms with the extent of the damage caused by Vatican II and the Novus Ordo. When they do, they will realize that there can be absolutely no compromise with it.

In that same vein, Father, what do you have to say to the SSPX [Society of Saint Pius X]? Why should they abandon the Recognize-and-Resist (R&R) position?

Like many seminarians, I was powerfully influenced by SSPX media. I read Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre, Michael Davies, Christopher Ferrara, The Remnant, and other popular SSPX authors. There was something very appealing to me about the “fight for Tradition” in a world that has rejected it. Sedevacantism seemed like an extreme position to me; it seemed that one could be a traditional Catholic without ‘going as far as’ sedevacantism.

The SSPX is aware that the Church is holy, and cannot deliver bad worship, bad doctrine, or bad morals to her faithful on a universal level. For this reason, they use ambiguous language to describe the Novus Ordo; they generally say that it is problematic, that it is less good than the traditional Mass, or that it is a difficult issue for our times. They say that Vatican II ought not to be taken as if it were universal Church teaching; rather, it ought to be taken as a pastoral council, which could be subject to error without compromising the Church’s holiness. They also say that the Roman Pontiffs defected from the faith many times in the past, and that the situation that we are living through today is no different than these past times. They say that Archbishop Lefebvre was an Athanasius of the modern world, which they interpret as meaning he stood up to a pope who had defected from the faith. They say that St. Paul resisted St. Peter to his face, and that they are doing the same.

Several things persuaded me to abandon the SSPX position (and all of R&R). First, having completed a great deal of research on the Novus Ordo, I had come to the firm conclusion that it was an evil Mass. I also knew from direct experience that it was the cause of a catastrophic loss of faith and morals among the faithful. It is not a ‘problematic’ or ‘difficult’ issue; it must be said clearly that the Novus Ordo Mass is something evil. The Church is holy and cannot promulgate evil rites. Therefore the Novus Ordo cannot be a legitimate universal promulgation of the Catholic Church. And since the only one who has the authority over the Church to universally promulgate rites is the Roman Pontiff, he who appeared to promulgate this evil rite to the universal Church could not have been the Roman Pontiff.

Second, it must also be clearly said that Vatican II contains many errors which had previously been condemned by the Church’s magisterium. No ecumenical council can contain error, for an ecumenical council is an exercise of the supreme teaching authority of the Church, from which there cannot be any appeal. Therefore all of Vatican II must be completely rejected as invalid; it is not a point of concern to be potentially solved in future discussions. With a rejection of the council comes a rejection of the popes who promulgated it and continue to do so. For the formal validity of a council comes not from the fact that bishops were gathered, but from the pope promulgating it. Thus, in order for Vatican II to be an invalid council, it must have come from an invalid pope.

Third, contrary to what the SSPX teaches, the Holy See has never defected from the faith. Indeed, the Vatican Council (1870) teaches that the Roman Pontiffs can never defect from the faith. St. Robert Bellarmine and St. Francis de Sales also reiterate this teaching. No Catholic saint or theologian teaches that the Holy See can defect. Only Protestants teach it. The SSPX and all of R&R join themselves to Protestants and keep company with them on this position. The anecdote about St. Athanasius is a Protestant argument refuted by St. Robert Bellarmine (De Romano Pontifice, IV, IX). The anecdote about St. Paul resisting St. Peter is another Protestant argument, also refuted by St. Robert Bellarmine (De Romano Pontifice, IV, IX). I discovered many similar arguments commonly used by present-day R&R media which are traceable directly to the Chroniclers of Magdeburg, a group of Protestant academics. The fact that the SSPX appeals to Protestant arguments to support their position — arguments which were refuted by Catholic saints and popes — was a clear indication to me that they were wrong.

Sedevacantism is not a rejection of the papacy, but a preservation of the papacy from defection.

The July 2022 MHTS newsletter has revealed that you, Fr. DeSaye, will be staying with the school and parish in Brooksville. What exactly will you be teaching at the Academy with the Sisters?

As of this writing, I do not yet know what I will be teaching. I am very busy helping with the move to Reading, Pennsylvania, and preparing articles for the new website.

Father, do you accept the Thesis of Cassciacum? Is it the solution to the crisis in the Church?

Yes, I do accept the Thesis of Cassiciacum. I would not say that the thesis is the solution to the present crisis; it is only a diagnosis of the present crisis. The solution to the crisis will be a true pope. But I do not see how it is possible to explain the current crisis in the Church — while also preserving the Church’s marks, indefectibility, and visibility — without appealing to the principles outlined in the thesis. In that regard, the thesis clarifies exactly what the problem is: an interior defect of consent in the pope-elect, pre-existing his exterior manifestation of acceptance, positively determining his will, and de facto nullifying his papacy. The thesis proposes various possible means of resolving the crisis (by means of the obtainment of a true pope) which are reasonable, which appeal to traditional principles of moral theology and ecclesiology, and which avoid conspiracy theories or appeals to miraculous interventions, the latter of which seem to be putting God to the test. Even if God were to perform a miracle for the benefit of the Church worldwide, it would still not answer the question: how is the indefectibility of the Church preserved?

Where would you point someone to learn more about this thesis of Bishop Guérard des Lauriers? Perhaps a website of some sort?

We are working on a website dedicated to presenting the thesis in a manner which is clear and easy to understand, and which answers common objections. How is the seminary move going? Is the seminary in need of financial help with this ongoing move?

As of today, we have moved nearly the entire library to Reading, as well as many desks, beds, chairs, bookshelves, decorations, and other pieces of furniture. With each passing day, the Reading campus begins to look more like a seminary and less like a construction site. Local Brooksville families have been extremely generous in helping us load trucks and pack boxes in the intense summer heat of Florida; and they have done so joyfully and without complaining.

We are trying our best to secure the most cost-effective way to move this institution a thousand miles from where it is currently located. Rental trucks, insurance, gasoline, hotel bills, airfare, moving supplies, hardware, and many take-out meals while on the road, are all expenses which are above the normal day-to-day operating costs of the seminary. According to Bishop Sanborn, the total cost of the move is going to be between $40,000 and $50,000. This seminary depends entirely on the generosity of individual benefactors. Unlike Novus Ordo seminaries, we receive no income from dioceses or religious orders. Therefore any donations to our general fund to help bear this burden of moving would be received with our profound gratitude and prayers.

Could you describe your vocation, Father? What would you say to the young people that feel called to the priesthood or religious life?

My vocation was complicated by the fact that the Novus Ordo priesthood is not the Catholic priesthood, and I did not know it. But once I understood that, I wanted to be ordained a priest more than ever. And I hoped and prayed that Bishop Sanborn would think the same.

The vocation to the priesthood or religious life has always been characterized by suffering for the faith: by a burning desire to be a victim with Our Lord, united to Him in will, bearing our own crosses, for the glory of God and salvation of souls. But in our days, the vocation to the priesthood and religious life will be characterized by a willingness to suffer not only from heretics and schismatics, but also from fellow Catholics who refuse to abandon the perversity of the Novus Ordo.

Apart from this unique challenge arising from the crisis in the Church, the priesthood and religious life continue as they have always. Typically someone who feels called to the priesthood has a persistent and burning desire to be at the altar, to be in the confessional, to be at the sick bed, to be at the pulpit, to be in choir, to be living the common life, to be studying philosophy and theology, to be frequently in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament, to be frequently recollected in prayer and contemplation, and to submit his own will for whatever is necessary to preserve and cultivate the Catholic religion. Religious vocations desire the above as well, minus the aspects which pertain uniquely to the sacrament of holy orders. Although they may experience temptations to impurity in body and mind, as well as to pursue worldly treasures and ambitions, those who have a vocation to the priesthood or religious life realize that they have also received many graces to resist these temptations, and to love deeply the virtues of chastity, poverty, obedience, and humility; they feel that God will continue to give them similar graces throughout their lives, not because of anything they have accomplished, but purely because He loves them and has chosen them. And finally, those who feel called to the priesthood or religious life should speak openly and honestly to a priest about it, preferably a priest to whom one regularly confesses.

What do you recommend for spiritual reading or for growth in the spiritual life?

Anything by a saint or by an approved spiritual writer before Vatican II, such as Fr. Reginald Garrigou-Lagrange or Fr. Jean-Baptiste Chautard, is good spiritual reading. If you discover a pre-Vatican II author but do not know if he or she was generally approved, ask a priest. Do not be frustrated if you find spiritual reading difficult. I found it difficult when I first started; this is because the saints are not like us. We approach them like a worm approaching an angel. Do not be discouraged; reading the saints becomes easier with practice.

Greetings!

It’s hard to find a more inspiring story of martyrdom than that of the Nigerian seminarian Michael Nnadi, who was brutally killed in early 2020 for his Catholic faith. His bishop said that Michael’s “only crime was his desire to serve God.”


Yet, inspiring as his story is, the reality of martyrdom is only glorious after the fact. Those who endure it in real time don’t experience the glory, but their blood becomes the “seed of the Church,” as Tertullian said in the third century, which radiates glory down through future ages.


But before getting to the details of his story, we need to put it in its larger context.

Nigeria’s Longsuffering Christians

Modern-day Nigeria should be a wake-up call to any unrealistic ideas we might have about martyrdom. The country’s population is approximately 50-50 Christian-Muslim, but it has become the point of the sword for Islamic extremism since the terrorist group, Boko Haram, arose in 2009 and began their murderous rampage through Nigeria’s northern territory. Let me be absolutely clear: there is nothing even remotely good about Boko Haram.

According to the Global Terrorism Index, it is the bloodiest terrorist group in the world. It is responsible for the vicious murders of over 300,000 children and adults, the displacement of over 2 million people, the provocation of regional famines, and countless atrocious kidnappings.

To put the problem in a global perspective, a report on Islamic terrorism released by the non-profit group Open Doors earlier this year, counted 6000 murders of Christians worldwide in 2021. Eighty percent of those murders occurred in Nigeria.

True Horror Stories

The average westerner in touch with the news may remember when Boko Haram kidnapped 276 female students from a boarding school in 2014. All the precious girls were between the ages of ages 16 and 18. To this day as many as 100 of the girls have never been accounted for and are believed either to have been killed outright or sold into slavery.

That was the beginning of a trend. Amnesty International estimates that Boko Haram has abducted and sold into slavery at least 2000 young women since then.

In the same year, the terrorist group burned down 24 buildings of a government school condemning the 59 boys inside to a brutal, fiery death. Boko Haram has since incinerated more than 200 schools and killed more than 1000 students simply because they believe “Western education” to be sinful.

Most of those who are brutally killed are Christians, although Boko Haram has shown few scruples about killing their fellow Muslims.

The current President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, has been severely criticized for doing little to address the festering problem of Islamic terrorism. His name would seem to indicate where his loyalties lie. He claims that the military’s efforts have “technically” defeated Boko Haram, but as recently as last month, the terrorists kidnapped and murdered a Catholic priest and continue to carry out their wicked agenda.

It would be easy to despair about such appalling situations, but we are not without hope. More importantly, the Nigerian Christians are not hopeless because they have the courage of their convictions.

Lights in the Darkness

While humans can often bring good out of good, only God can bring good out of evil, light out of darkness, and holiness from hatred. In this perspective, while martyrdom is not a goal to be sought, it has always been prized by the Church because it is the ultimate imitation of Christ, who laid down His life for us.


The stories of two such sacred windows of light in Nigeria’s darkness need to be told. One is a tale of fidelity to Christ involving a Protestant pastor, the other is the story of Michael Nnadi who would not be silent in the face of persecution. Both events took place in Islamic-controlled Northern Nigeria in January of 2020.

The Good Shepherd

Rev. Lawan Andimi, pastor of the Brethren Church of Christ in Adamawa State, was kidnapped and held for ransom by Boko Haram. They demanded 2 million Euros ransom from his church, but his poor community of believers were not even able to raise 5,000 Euros to secure his release.


No other groups or associations came to their aid, despite the prevalence of Christian megachurches all throughout the country. But we should not judge them on this. It’s a dangerous game to begin paying ransoms to terrorists.

In the ransom video Pastor Andimi was forced to make, he admitted that his prospects for survival were not good but insisted that he was not discouraged by his circumstances and gave his people confidence that he was in God’s hands no matter what happened. Pure faith.


It was also reported that he was being bullied into renouncing his Christian faith but had steadfastly and repeatedly refused. A few days later, when the ransom demand was not met, he was taken out to Sambisa forest and beheaded.

The Seminarian Who Would Not Be Silent

In another region of Northern Nigeria, a local Islamic gang headed by a man named Mustapha Mohammed conducted surveillance on the Good Shepherd Seminary in the city of Kaduna and carried out an armed raid late one night, kidnapping four seminarians and stealing all their electronic equipment. These young men were between the ages of 18 and 23.

Using the seminarians’ phones, the terrorists made a ransom demand of $250,000 that was later reduced to $25,000. One of the seminarians was found bloody but alive on the roadside the day after the abduction. Apparently the Church had paid a partial ransom and two other seminarians were eventually released seemingly without incident or injury.


But it was the fourth seminarian, Michael Nnadi, age 18, who presented the real problem for the terrorists. The leader, Mohammed, later gave an interview from prison admitting that, from the beginning of his captivity to the end, the seminarian would simply not let him or his companions have any peace. The young Catholic man incessantly announced the Gospel of Jesus Christ to his Muslim captors.


Furthermore, Nnadi reproached them harshly for their sin and told them to repent and reform their lives otherwise they would lose their souls. This was not a generalized warning. Mohammed said that the seminarian rebuked him “to his face.”

Unrelenting Witness

You have to give the young man credit for an absolutely intrepid, if risky, battle strategy. It would either be the quickest way to get him released or the quickest way to get him killed.


And indeed, it turned out to be the latter. After several weeks of an unrelenting onslaught of truth from the seminarian, the Christian message he was delivering must have so enraged his captors that they brutally killed him just so they wouldn’t have to hear his convicting words.

Yet, like Herod who “felt the attraction” of John the Baptist’s preaching in prison (Mark 6:20), Mustapha Mohammed admitted in the article that he admired the seminarian’s bravery. However, he also chafed at “the confidence displayed by the young man and decided to send him to an early grave.”


Three weeks after the kidnapping, the bishop of the local diocese, Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah, announced that they had found and identified Michael Nnadi’s corpse and that he had been murdered by the terrorists. Pictures of the body revealed that he had been tortured.


In the funeral Mass, Bishop Kukah spoke about the seminarian’s death as a moment of decision for their country, a “moment that separates darkness from light, good from evil.” His homily ended with a rousing conclusion that deserves to be quoted for its vibrant optimism expressing our belief in the victory of Christ’s Cross over the evil of our world:

We know that Michael’s strength will inspire an army of young people to follow in his steps. We will march on with the cross of Christ entrusted to us, not in agony or pain, because our salvation lies in your cross. We have no vengeance or bitterness in our hearts. We have no drop of sorrow inside us. We are honoured that our son has been summoned to receive the crown of martyrdom at the infancy of his journey to the priesthood. We are grateful that even before he could ascend the earthly altar, Jesus the high priest, called Him to stand by His angels. He was a priest by desire but he is concelebrating the fullness of the priesthood beside His Master. He was lifted up even before his hands could lift up the sacred chalice. May the Lord place him beside His bosom and may he intercede for us. If his blood can bring healing to our nation, then his murderers will never have the final say. May God give him eternal peace.

I’m sure you’ll agree with me that it’s hard to find a finer expression of Christian hope than that.

Two Types of Martyrdom

Nigeria is just one of the many killing fields for Christians in today’s world. According to the same Open Doors report quoted above, an astonishing 360 million Christians around the world live in situations of de facto persecution.

But this is nothing new to followers of Christ. St. Peter himself witnessed to this dynamic before the first Christian century was up: “The brotherhood of believers is undergoing the same trials throughout the world” (1 Peter 5:9).

So, we have to ask ourselves: if persecutions ever come upon us, will we be as faithful as these valiant men? One type of martyr held fast to his belief – “even unto death” – and refused to deny His Lord in the face of threats and pressure. The other preached the Good News of Jesus Christ fearlessly at the very gates of hell.

The honest question I ask myself: if I were ever taken captive for my faith, would they have to put me to death to stop me from speaking about Christ?
