As we have often mentioned before, when speaking of the end times, Our Lord Jesus Christ warned us to prepare for deceptions so seductive that we will require a special grace from God to overcome them. He told His disciples:
For there shall arise false Christs and false prophets, and shall show great signs and wonders, insomuch as to deceive (if possible) even the elect. Matthew 24:24
While we do not believe that we have reached the days of the Final Antichrist, immediately prior to the end of the world, we can see a foreshadowing of those days in current events—including the way that gifted, sincere, and devout Catholics are deceived by false prophets who clothe their errors and even their blasphemies in orthodox Catholic terminology. Since none of us is exempt from Our Lord’s warning, I would like from time to time to share examples of prominent, gifted, intelligent and devout Catholics who were nevertheless deceived by the Arius of the twentieth century, Fr. Teilhard de Chardin. (We will not use this newsletter to expose the errors of Teilhard’s “new Christianity” based on evolution, as we have already exposed those errors elsewhere.) Nevertheless, we hope that these newsletters will help all of us to be on our guard against the diabolical deceptions that have caused even some of our most gifted older brothers and sisters to stumble. This newsletter will focus on the Australian apologist and writer Frank Sheed.

ELEISON COMMENTS DCCXC (Sept. 4, 2022) : WHAT IS REALITY ? – II

What these “Comments” strongly suggested last week is that in judging of what reality is, common sense is much superior to so-called scientists and intellectuals. As for “scientists”, this is because their minds are usually confined to matter, or things material. Of things spiritual or “invisible”, as the Nicene Creed says, the mass of their minds have no inkling. That makes poor judges of reality in its highest part. As for “intellectuals”, the mass of their minds are boxed in by Kant (1724-1804), virtual king of the philosophy department of modern “universities” which make a point of despising common sense. This is because our common sense can be defined as our natural and God-given grasp of the realities all around us between birth and death, and since the later 18th century especially, man has been making war on God and nature.
Here is why today common sense is being steadily washed out of men’s minds by their supposed leaders, so that, for instance, men must be womanly and women must be manly, and children must change sex.

Yet how can what the common man still has of common sense stand up to the studies and learning of the “philosophers” ? Is it not as though a team of amateur footballers should defeat a team of professionals ? Normally, as professionals in any sport will easily defeat amateurs, so ordinary men will follow their leaders, and one such following his common sense in society today will easily be persuaded he is wrong. However, Aristotle (384-322 BC), a truly great philosopher for his analysis of reality still largely valid today, once said of his colleagues, “There is no stupidity that some philosopher has not been found to put forward.” So when it comes to the philosophical principles of life, the professionals are not always right.

Let us distinguish two meanings of the word “philosophy”. It can mean the intellectual activity of men who think, study, read and write books often in universities, i.e. the professional philosophers. Or a man’s philosophy can mean the principles by which, consciously or unconsciously, he lives, and since no man can live without having some such principles for living, then in this second sense some philosophy belongs to every man alive, amateur or professional.

Now these two senses are not the same. In the first sense, if a philosopher is writing a book, he can be doing it for a variety of other motives than to analyse reality. He can be writing philosophy to make a living, or to make money, or to make himself a name, and so on. And in that case he may or may not himself believe in what he is writing, he may be writing what he knows is nonsense, far removed from what he knows is real. In any case he wants people to take him seriously, so he must at least make them think that he is writing what he believes to be real. So I may not know if he is being real, or not.

So if I want to know what the professional philosopher really thinks, I will turn to the second sense of the word, and instead of listening to what he says, or just reading what he writes, I will watch how he lives, because that is bound to tell me what he really thinks. Here of course is why personal example is so much more telling, and persuasive, than mere words. If Archbishop Lefebvre made so many good priests, it was above all by his own example. So if I want to know what any given philosopher really thinks is reality, I will watch his actions rather than listen to his words.

At last we come to these “philosophers” who teach, following Kant, that the human mind cannot know what is behind the appearances of things. How do they act ? Do they live as though they do not know what is water for washing or coffee for drinking ? Of course not. How could Kant have walked to the Koenigsberg University each morning if he had not known the difference between a door and a wall, between stairs and a chair ? He could never have lived had he taken seriously his own stupidities. The enormous advantage of St Thomas Aquinas is that his system corresponds to common sense. God’s “Common Doctor” corresponds to God-given common sense.

Three years later, in April, 1968 a think-tank of financiers, scientists, economists, politicians, heads of state, and industrialists from ten different countries, again met at Rockefeller's private estate in Bellagio, Italy, at the request of Aurelio Peccei, the Italian industrialist who had close ties to Fiat and the Olivetti Corporation. Latest cause for disgust and outrage -- political bias- in legal crime cases and government matters ! Can you believe it?

I find this somewhat amusing. Every tiny aspect of every level of government, down to the tiniest municipality in a state is suffused with political bias through and through and really always has been.

So we are supposed to believe that somehow the DOJ and FBI only seek out and hire only attorneys and agents with impeccable highest standards of objectivity and neutrality and lack of the political bias.

The reality is that the whole system works on the basis of constant veiled or not so veiled threats and minor to major forms of bribery, extortion and blackmail. You may find experts who know how to get around the law and find ways to do things against the law but make it appear otherwise. Optics and power are all that matter in politics. Forget about fairness and objectivity.

People who were branded as disinformation purveyors say the new documents showing coordination between Big Tech and President Joe Biden’s administration is an important step in combating the collusion.

“As one of the Disinformation Dozen, I am thrilled to see that both Eric Schmitt of Missouri and Jeffrey Landry of Louisiana have had the courage to take a stand against the massive and well-orchestrated censorship that has attempted to silence me, my colleagues and quite frankly, hundreds of others.

“It is about time,” Dr. Christiane Northrup, an obstetrician-gynecologist, told The Epoch Times in a text message.

Schmitt and Landry, both Republican attorney generals, brought a suit against the administration for alleged violations of the First Amendment in pressuring social media companies to censor users. The documents came as a result of discovery in the case.

In 2021, a nonprofit called the Center for Countering Digital Hate claimed that just 12 people — described as the “disinformation dozen” — were responsible for most of the “anti-vaccine” content on social media.

The White House took the report and used it to pressure Big Tech to suppress alleged misinformation and disinformation.

Then-White House press secretary Jen Psaki told reporters on July 16, 2021, that the administration was in regular contact with social media platforms and was focused on getting them to step up enforcement.

“We have recommended — proposed that they create a robust enforcement strategy that bridges their properties and provides transparency about the rules,” she said.

“There’s about 12 people who are producing 65% of anti-vaccine misinformation on social media platforms. All of them remain active on Facebook, despite some even being banned on other platforms, including Facebook — ones that Facebook owns.”

Behind the scenes, Facebook responded to the pressure, the new documents show.

A Facebook official, whose name was redacted, told White House officials in a July 23, 2021, email after a Facebook-White House meeting that “we talked about the speed at which we are all having to iterate as the pandemic progresses.”

“I wanted to make sure you saw the steps we took just this past week to adjust policies on what we are removing with respect to misinformation, as well as steps taken to further address the ‘disinfo dozen’: we removed 17 additional Pages, Groups and Instagram accounts tied to the disinfo dozen (so a total of 39 Profiles, Pages, Groups and IG accounts deleted thus far, resulting in every member of the disinfo dozen having had at least one such entity removed),” the Facebook employee wrote.

“We are also continuing to make 4 other Pages and Profiles, which have not yet met their removal thresholds, more difficult to find on our platform. We also expanded the group of false claims that we remove, to keep up with recent trends of misinformation that we are seeing,” the worker added.

The documents also showed that more than 50 administration officials and 12 agencies were involved in the censorship effort, regularly pressuring Facebook, Twitter and Google to take action.

‘Astonished’

Robert F. Kennedy Jr., chairman of Children’s Health Defense (CHD) and another person included in the “disinformation dozen,” said the documents surprised him.

“I’m astonished that any elected Democrat would be so estranged from our nation’s history and values as to consider it acceptable for a president to pressure publishers to censor his critics,” Kennedy told The Epoch Times in an emailed statement.

“It’s shocking that a U.S. president would involve the FBI and Homeland Security in efforts to quash dissent. Has no one in the White House read Thomas Paine or Orwell or Huxley or Heinlein or Arthur Koestler or Hannah Arendt or Solzhenitsyn? What do they think the lessons were that we were supposed to have learned from Watergate? From McCarthyism? From Vietnam?” he added.

“The framers placed the right of free expression in the First Amendment precisely to guarantee Americans our sacred right to criticize our government. The First Amendment is not there to safeguard popular speech or government-approved speech. The framers specifically wanted to protect speech that the government finds inconvenient or even detestable. And they included no pandemic exception in the Constitution!”

Kevin Jenkins, the co-chair of the Zelenko Freedom Foundation, also welcomed the release of the documents.

“The truth is coming out every day! This important lawsuit gives us a voice as we continue to battle for the soul of the country. When I was placed on the Disinformation 12 list, it reminded me of a dark historical period when great men and women of their time were attacked and vilified by the same government that’s attempting to censor us from spreading the truth like a mantra,” Jenkins told The Epoch Times in a message.

“We are turning their narrative of misinformation into a movement of truth!” he added.

Facebook, Google, Twitter and the White House have not responded to requests for comment.

Only two out of the eight people mentioned, Solzhenitsyn and Senator Joseph McCarthy were Christians. RFK Sr. worked for Senator McCarthy in 1952 and McCarthy was godfather to RFK Sr's first child, Kathleen. *

I was also disappointed that the history of the concept of "hate speech" as related to the First Amendment was not explored. Long-time patriots of today know that history. Also was disappointed that the definition of the two terms, misinformation and disinformation**, was not discussed in this article.

"The distinction between misinformation and disinformation becomes especially important in political, editorial, and advertising contexts, where sources may make deliberate efforts to mislead, deceive, or confuse an audience in order to promote their personal, religious, or ideological objectives. The difference consists in having an agenda. It thus bears comparison with lying, because lies are assertions that are false, that are known to be false, and that are asserted with the intention to mislead, deceive, or confuse. One context in which disinformation abounds is the study of the death of JFK, which I know from more than a decade of personal research experience. Here I reflect on that experience and advance a preliminary theory of disinformation that is intended to stimulate thinking on this increasingly important subject. misinformation -- deliberate efforts to mislead, deceive, or confuse an audience in order to promote their personal, religious, or ideological objectives, but NOT asserted and based on known false information, lies.

Seems to me the following out to be an option --
Telling the whole simple truth -- There is NO deliberate efforts to mislead, deceive, or confuse an audience in order to promote their personal, religious, or ideological objectives and intent to assert only true, known to be true, information. ("the whole truth and nothing but the truth")


Lastly, I was dissappointed in Mr. Kennedy's emphasis on "quashing dissent" and

"“... right of free expression in the First Amendment precisely to guarantee Americans our sacred right to criticize our government. The First Amendment is not there to safeguard popular speech or government-approved speech."

When it comes to public health matters, there must free expression among scientists and doctors as to what is factual true information. This is not mentioned.

POLK COUNTY, Fla. - More than a hundred people were arrested on prostitution-related charges following an undercover human trafficking operation by the Polk County Sheriff's Office (PCSO), and several of them were from Central Florida.

Among the 160 people arrested during the week-long operation were local teachers and a Disney employee. Authorities said they responded to an online escort advertisement and agreed to meet up for sex.

PCSO began "Operation Fall Haul II" on Aug. 29 and was assisted by multiple police departments, as well as social services organizations, the Office of the State Attorney 10th Judicial Circuit, and members from the Florida Department of Children and Families.

The sex sting resulted in a total of 52 felonies and 216 misdemeanors. Investigators also discovered at least two victims of sex trafficking during the operation, and there may be more.
Sheriff: 'We always have Disney employees'

Guillermo Perez, a bellhop at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort in Orange County, was taken into custody on a charge of soliciting a prostitute. The 57-year-old Winter Garden man reportedly agreed to pay $80 for a quick visit to have sex with an undercover detective.

Samy Claude, 26, was also arrested on the same charge. The Orlando independent photographer is often contracted by Disney, law enforcement said. When he arrived at the home, he reportedly brought the detective a bag of sour Skittles.

John Layton, a 26-year-old Physical Education teacher at West Orange High School in Orange County, was arrested after he allegedly agreed to pay $40 for a sex act. Deputies said he was wearing the school's track and field shirt when he arrived at the undisclosed location.

Carlos Gonzales, a 36-year-old Math teacher at New Dimensions High School in Osceola County, was arrested on two charges of soliciting a prostitute after reportedly agreeing to have sex with two undercover detectives.

Detectives arrested a 41-year-old Ocoee man who they said arrived at a home to have sex with a prostitute. Authorities said Cameron Burke had been previously arrested for allegedly having sex with a 15-year-old student at Oak Ridge High School in Orange County in 2021 and was currently released on a bond. At the time of his arrest, Polk County officials said he was employed as a computer technician for the school.

Of the 160 arrested, 26 of them told detectives they were married, 16 lived in Polk County, 15 were from other states, at least two were employed in law enforcement and seven are suspected of being in the country illegally, PCSO said in a news release. The oldest person arrested is 64 years old, while the youngest is 19.

"The online prostitution industry enables traffickers and allows for the continued victimization of those who are being trafficked," Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said in a statement. "Our goal is to identify victims, offer them help, and arrest those who are fueling the exploitation of human beings (Johns) and those profiting from the exploitation of human beings. Prostitution is not a victimless crime – it results in exploitation, disease, dysfunction, drug and alcohol addiction, violence, and broken families."

Judd held a news conference about the operation Friday morning, and it was streamed live on the sheriff's office's Facebook page. Watch below:

[65-page Ruling Here] The media have enjoyed ridiculing Trump by using the words of the judge who dismissed the case. As noted by the Washington Times, “Judge Donald M. Middlebrooks, a Clinton appointee, said Mr. Trump’s filing was too lengthy, detailing events that “are implausible because they lack any specific allegations which might provide factual support for the conclusions reached.”

Pay attention to the framework underpinning Middlebooks’ opinion. I have been reluctant to write about the decision to dismiss the lawsuit of President Trump against a multitude of conspirators, including Hillary Clinton, for two reasons.

First, because when I originally read the 108-page lawsuit filed in March, it took me a few moments, and then I realized this was not a lawsuit; this was a legal transfer mechanism created by lawyers to establish a proprietary information silo. Second, because I do not want another ridiculous subpoena from DC simply because they can’t fathom how any outside entity could solve a puzzle without insider assistance. As to the former, I have prayed on it and come to the opinion it’s worth sharing. As to the latter, it’s just another waste of taxpayer funds, but whatever – the truth has no agenda.

So, here’s a totally different take on the issues surrounding the Trump -v- Clinton lawsuit, which -from the outset- I always believed was going to be dismissed because suing all of those characters under the auspices of a civil RICO case was never the objective. However, in the aftermath, the silo created by the lawsuit is also grounded upon attorney-client privilege, a legal countermeasure to a predictable DOJ-NSD lawfare maneuver, which unfolded in the Mar-a-Lago raid and ongoing issues.

In March 2022 President Trump filed a civil lawsuit against: Hillary Clinton, Hillary for America Campaign Committee, DNC, DNC Services Corp, Perkins Coie, Michael Sussmann, Marc Elias, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Charles Dolan, Jake Sullivan, John Podesta, Robby Mook, Phillipe Reines as well as Fusion GPS, Glenn Simpson, Peter Fritsch, Nellie Ohr, Bruce Ohr, Orbis Business Intelligence, Christopher Steele, Igor Danchenko, Neustar Inc., Rodney Joffe, James Comey Peter Strzok, Lisa Page, Kevin Clinesmith and Andrew McCabe. When I was about one-third of the way through reading the lawsuit, I initially stopped and said to myself this is going to take a lot of documentary evidence to back up the claims in the assertions. Dozens of attachments would be needed and hundreds of citations to the dozens of attachments would be mandatory. Except, they were not there.

After reading further, while completely understanding the background material that was being described in the filing, I realized this wasn’t a lawsuit per se’. The 108-pages I was holding in my hands was more akin to legal transfer mechanism from President Trump to lawyers who needed it. The filing was contingent upon a series of documents that would be needed to support the claims within it.

Whoever wrote the lawsuit had obviously reviewed the evidence to support the filing. However, the attachments and citations were missing. That was weird. That’s when I realized the purpose of the lawsuit. In hindsight, things became clear when the DOJ-NSD raided the home of Donald Trump, and suddenly the motive to confiscate the documents that would be the missing lawsuit attachments and citations surfaced.

With the manipulative, and I say intentional, “ongoing investigation” angle of the John Durham probe essentially blocking public release of declassified documents showing the efforts of all the lawsuit participants (Trump-Russia Collusion Hoax), President Trump needed a legal way to secure and more importantly share the evidence.

Think of it like the people around Trump wanting to show lawyers the evidence in the documents. However, because of the construct of the lawfare being deployed against Trump, any lawyer would need a *reason* to review the evidence. The Trump -v- Clinton et al lawsuit becomes that ‘reason.’

The “documents” (classified or not) are reviewed by lawyers in preparation for the lawsuit. This is their legal justification for reviewing the documents. In essence, the lawsuit is a transfer mechanism permitting the Trump legal team to review the evidence on behalf of their client, former President Donald Trump.

Once the formation of the lawsuit is established, the retainer and acceptance of the lawyers to represent their client cemented, the legal counsel, discussion and information within legal duties/obligations of those who represent the plaintiff (Trump) becomes an information silo. In addition to previous executive privilege established by President Trump himself; outside government there is now another silo to defend against the motives of the Lawfare crew (DOJ), the attorney-client privilege.

The lawsuit itself is the transfer mechanism permitting sharing of the documents and providing legal cover for the reviewers (lawyers). The details within the 108-page filing constitute the claims of the plaintiff in the lawsuit, which were established by the evidentiary documents later seized by the DOJ and FBI raid on Mar-a-Lago.

“Judge Donald M. Middlebrooks, a Clinton appointee, said Mr. Trump’s filing was too lengthy, detailing events that “are implausible because they lack any specific allegations which might provide factual support for the conclusions reached.”

There were no attachments and/or citations to the documentary evidence in the 108-page filing, because there was a legal risk to citing evidence with a status in dispute by the corrupt people in Main Justice and the FBI. Secondarily, there was an obstruction risk to the President, if his legal team was to publish citations that were part of an ongoing investigation (Durham). However, this doesn’t negate the value of constructing the information silo, an attorney-client privilege.

If the documents seized by the FBI were part of the lawsuit established by President Trump and his legal team via Trump -v- Clinton, then the material seized is all attorney client work product. Lawfully obtained, constitutionally declassified and legally protected material.

This is where the ‘special master’ will play a key role.

“Yesterday, one of the best days of my life,” Bannon said. “It was a very powerful spiritual day for me. It was a lot of things, were, you know, came into high clarity. It was, I was totally in the zone, as you say, in sports the entire time. And you know, they’re not gonna shut me up. We see, it is — we saw from the demonic speech that Biden gave in Philadelphia.”

“Exactly,” Kirk remarked.

“This is a dying regime,” Bannon continued. “That was a primal scream. And here, what they’re trying to do, no matter who it is, Donald Trump and Mar-a-Lago — there were 35 FBI raids yesterday.”

“Right?” he added. “Handing out, there’s another grand jury coming together on January 6th, the Washington Post reported it. They just reported a couple names. “This is the American arm of that,” Bannon added. “The Biden regime. But I think there’s five people. There were 35. 35 FBI, went to 35 — all these people have lawyers. They all know who the lawyers are. They didn’t want, they didn’t serve these subpoenas to the lawyers. They want to make a big display of it. They want to take a bunch of their devices. They want — this is the FBI trying to roll in and trying to be muscle, right? This is the gestapo. This is the gestapo tactic.”

“Look, this is all about intimidation,” he continued. “Whether it’s, whether it’s what they did with me yesterday, what they’re doing with Alex Jones, what they’re doing with other people to de-bank them to make sure they can’t fund their operations. If it’s Trump, like a President of the United States, a completely, totally illegal raid, of which a judge said was an illegal raid. The judge’s opinion says I don’t trust the Justice Department and the FBI to be fair. That’s a federal judge.”

“You see it all over,” Bannon went on. “And 35 members of MAGA, the Republican Party, people close to Donald Trump were rolled in on yesterday by the FBI with these intimidation tactics. They just don’t normally what you would do here, Charlie, is you would go to their lawyer and say, ‘Hey, we want to know when, can you accept service of a subpoena? Can you accept service of this?’ Or ‘we may want to talk to you about certain of your devices, you know, can we work something out?’ No, they didn’t do that. They go with the jackboots and they kick down the doors and they bang on the doors and they roll in people to intimidate them to make sure that they sit there and go, ‘oh, oh, what do you want? You know, I’ll do anything,’ et cetera.”

“Well, these people didn’t,” ge added, “And this is the FBI. The FBI’s the gestapo right now. I know they hate when I say that, but they’re the gestapo. We’re not going to back off calling them the gestapo because they have gestapo-like tactics.”

“Here’s my point,” he said. “They’re losing. They’re only trying to use this national security state muscle because they know they’re not winning. And quite frankly, when you do things like the Great Reset this weekend, and get young people up-to-speed on what’s going on, that drives them even more insane.”

“That’s right,” Kirk concurred.

“So, hey, Turning Point’s going to be a target, a big league target,” Bannon said. “Okay? So just stand by, Charlie. It’s all coming. It’s all going to come hard and heavy.”

According to the Washington Post article referenced by Steve Bannon during the interview, five Trump allies were served sweeping subpoenas demanding information on the Save America PAC.

“The Justice Department is seeking details about the formation and operation of Donald Trump’s post-presidential political operation, according to three people familiar with the probe, sending a raft of subpoenas in a significant expansion of the criminal investigation of the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol and efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election,” the Post article reported.

“A federal grand jury sent subpoenas on Wednesday to a wide range of former campaign and White House staffers asking for information about the Save America PAC, according to the people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss an ongoing probe,” the report added. “They described the subpoenas as broad, seeking all documents and communications about opening the PAC and every dollar raised and spent.”

“At least one of the subpoenas also demanded information about the plan to submit slates of phony electors claiming Trump won pivotal states, including all communications with several key lawyers and advisers involved in the effort, one of the people said.,” the article notes. “They include Rudy Giuliani, Boris Epshteyn, Bruce Marks, Victoria Toensing and Joseph DiGenova, this person said.”

“Another one of the three people, who has direct knowledge of one of the subpoenas, said the document was ‘wide ranging’ and included multiple other categories of information, but this person declined to describe them,” the report added. “FBI agents served at least some of the subpoenas in person on Wednesday, one of the people with knowledge said.”

Harmeet Dhillon, an attorney who has represented Donald Trump in the past, reacted to Charlie Kirk’s interview by stating, “Can confirm this happened to many Trump allies I know as well.”

The FBI conducted a sweeping raid of Mar-a-Lago on August 8, before staging a photo of empty ‘top secret’ and ‘classified’ folders that it inserted as an attachment in response to a court order. Since then, the Department of Justice and the FBI have been leaking sensitive legal information and classified national security information to the press in a blatant effort to interfere in the 2022 midterm elections.

That vertical line showing where the jump in cancer began marks April, 2021, when SOMETHING changed. So weird. He says the cancer data (the top chart) is now somewhere between an 8-sigma and 20-sigma statistical event, which means something that only happens once in Earth’s history.

All of those articles about the scary new causes of the cancer epidemic were published from the last month or so; meaning that the studies they reported on were probably started sometime after April. Most of the articles ran during the last two weeks — so all the underlying studies were probably started around the same time. A weird coincidence. A happy coincidence, because they all came out right before Joe’s big (second) Cancer Moon Shot announcement.

Do I have to say it? It’s OBVIOUSLY a coordinated corporate media push about cancer. They are SO predictable.

So great ready for the new narrative. One way to interpret all this new attention on cancer is that they can’t hide the spiking cancer rates any more, so they need a new narrative: Everything causes cancer (so it’s not THEIR fault). 60-80% of Twitter accounts posting on Russia-Ukraine war bots, 90% ‘pro Ukraine’, finds new study

Scholars from the University of Adelaide studied 5.2 million posts shared between 23 February & 8 March & found the bots may be pushing people to flee their homes in these countries.

New Delhi: Between 60 and 80 per cent of Twitter handles posting on the Russia-Ukraine war may be bot accounts, a research by scholars from the University of Adelaide, Australia has found. Among other influences, these bot accounts may have been pushing people to flee their homes during the conflict between these two countries, the researchers added.

The researchers also found more “pro Ukraine’ accounts than those that were “pro Russia”.

The paper titled “#IStandWithPutin versus #IStandWithUkraine: The interaction of bots and humans in discussion of the Russia/Ukraine war” was released on 20 August.

The researchers studied 5.2 million posts on Twitter — tweets, retweets, quotes and replies to tweets — shared between 23 February and 8 March this year to understand how bot activity may influence online discussions around the Russia-Ukraine conflict and how bots may influence human emotions.

The studies posts contained hashtags like “StandWithPutin”, “(I)StandWithRussia”, “(I)SupportRussia”, “(I)StandWithUkraine”, “(I)StandWithZelenskyy” and “(I)SupportUkraine”.

Bot accounts were identified using Indiana University’s Botometer — a software which helps identify a bot account.

“We can say that between 60 per cent and 80 per cent of accounts tweeting the hashtags we studied during the first two weeks of the war were bots, as determined using the Botometer,” Joshua Watt, one of the researchers, told ThePrint.

According to Watt, it is not clear whether the bots were influencing people to flee Ukraine or Russia.

Watt added: “We cannot conclude where this is happening due to having no geographical information on the origin of accounts. All we can conclude is that the bot accounts are influencing more discussion surrounding moving/fleeing/going or staying in a country/location.”

More ‘pro Ukraine’ bot accounts

According to the researchers, 90.16 per cent of the accounts tweeting on the Russia-Ukraine war were “pro Ukraine” and only 6.80 per cent were “pro Russia”. “Balanced accounts” — those which showed mixed behaviour — comprised 3.04 per cent.

“The ‘ProRussia Not Bot’ account group has the largest outward information flows and significant flows to a range of other groups, having a positive information flow into both ‘ProUkraine’ and “Balanced” account groups, observed the researchers.

This means genuine pro-Russia users have the ability to influence more users on Twitter than genuine users who are pro-Ukraine.

The researchers found “a spike in bots on March 2nd and 4th. The first spike aligns with Russia capturing Kherson (a town in Ukraine), but also when the #(I)StandWithPutin and #(I)StandWithRussia hashtags were trending.”

The research also found noon to 1:00 pm as “the most popular time to tweet in any timezone.

The most commonly-used bot type both by pro-Ukraine and pro-Russia sides is the “self-declared bots — accounts that are transparent about being bots — “suggesting that authorities have identified these bots to be most useful in a information warfare campaign”. Self-declared bot accounts have the word ‘bot’ either in the username or bio.

The research also found the pro-Ukraine side to be using more astroturf bots than the pro-Russian side. Astroturf bots are hyper-active, political bots, continuously following other accounts to increase follower count of that account and/or systematically deleting content from their own account.
How bots trigger emotion

The research studied the words that most commonly appear in the bot accounts to note that “self-declared bots drive more angst about governing bodies. From a pro-Russian perspective, this may be to cause more disruption in the West, and from a pro-Ukrainian perspective, this may be to cause more disruption in Russia”.

The research paper observed that the bots also trigger angst by using angst related words, a majority of which are “surrounding fear and worry”.

The researchers therefore argued that bots and automated accounts “combine to increase fear in the overall discussion of the Russia/Ukraine war”.

The bots also increase online discussion around motion, observed the research paper, by tweeting posts with words like “moving”, “go”, “going”, “leave”, which are potentially associated with staying or fleeing the country.

Combining this with increases in angst suggests that bots could be influencing people’s decisions surrounding whether to flee their homes or not, claimed the paper.

In this special edition of What Catholics Believe, Father Jenkins comments on recent remarks made by Francis concerning two subjects. The first being the Novus Ordo accepting the communists bishops created by Chinese Patriotic Catholic Association and the agreement signed with the Red Chinese government. Francis boasts that God sent him a sign that bringing the Chinese Patriotic Catholic Association into his Novus Ordo fold was the right the thing to do. What was the sign? Simply, that the Chinese Patriotic Catholic Association supports Francis in his fight against those who want to expose and correct presider sexual abuse in his church. Francis then has the audacity to state that the agreement he signed with the Communist Chinese government is no different than the Church's behavior of the past. What a lie and how evil! The second is Francis stating, "I am the devil".
