Monty, looks like that was satire. Digging around NationalReport I found this:

I've also dug around some more and haven't found any evidence of anyone getting arrested at the Bundy Ranch other than from the national report website.

Comrade Reid: Bundy supporters are domestic terrorists -

Reid referred to Bundy supporters as “Nothing more than domestic terrorists,” adding, “I repeat: what happened there was domestic terrorism.”
So arresting any of those folks for 'domestic terra-ism' is certainly a consideration.
And top domestic terra-ist Comrade Reid should know what a domestic terra-ist is. Note that Comrade Reid uses the very scary term 'automatic weapons' (as if they automatically kill, much like flying killer robots).
Obama Sends Hundreds of Armed Feds to Nevada – Wouldn’t Send 1 Soldier to Defend Benghazi – Why?
http://www.dcclothesline.com/wp-cont...dy-600x501.jpg
When I use a word,” Humpty Dumpty said in a rather scornful tone, “it means just what I choose it to mean – neither more nor less.”
“The question is,” said Alice (remember Alice in Wonderland), “whether you can make words mean different things.”
“The question is,” said Humpty Dumpty, “who is to be master – that is all.”
Perhaps the irrational situations that Alice encounters in wonderland, after having passed “through the looking glass” can give us some insight into the illegal, unconstitutional, immoral and, indeed, irrational things that the government is doing right now in Bunkerville, Nevada.
In case you haven’t heard about it, here is the basic synopsis:
Cliven Bundy is a cattle rancher whose family has lived near Bunkerville for the last 140 years. The Bundy family’s cattle have always grazed on what had always been state-owned public land. In 1993, the Federal Government discovered that Bundy’s grazing area was also home to the endangered Desert Tortoise. As a result, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) swooped in and took control of the land. In order to dissuade farmers and ranchers from using the land and threatening the tortoise population, the BLM instituted a policy where ranchers would be forced to pay a grazing fee before using the land.

Link to video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?featur...&v=2NWX3OeoKu4
For Cliven Bundy, this was an unacceptable affront to his livelihood. His family has lived off this land for over a century, long before the unconstitutional creation of the BLM, and the idea that he would now have to pay a tax to protect a turtle seemed to him to be absurd and, well…irrational.
So, Bundy refused to pay the tax. He allowed his cattle to graze on the land and didn’t pay the federal government. He figured “why should I”? It’s not their land.
The land is state-owned public land, yet the federal government demands a cut because of an endangered turtle. After twenty years of expensive court battles, the Bureau of Land Management has finally swooped in and began confiscating Bundy’s cattle at gunpoint because they claim he must pay the $1.1 Million that he owes in back “grazing fees” for using public land!
The federal government is seizing a rancher’s cattle because he didn’t pay a $1.1 Million “grazing fee” that was, ostensibly, set up to protect a turtle!
More and more, we see government militarized agencies and bureaus using any pretended legislation, regulation, and technicality to come after individual citizens with the full weight of the federal government!
Now, do you really believe that this is about a turtle?
Is it about the government’s desperate need for 1.1 Million?
Or is it about something else?
Maybe it’s just like Humpty Dumpty told us.
Maybe, at the heart of this example of out of control, thuggish, tyrannical government, it’s the question of “who is to be master – that is all.”
Did you know that we have a remarkable number of militarized, non-law enforcement agencies in government?
Agencies like the Department of Education, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the IRS, and even the Bureau of Land Management have been arming themselves to the teeth for years.
The Obama administration wouldn’t even send in one soldier to protect our ambassador in Benghazi, but it has sent in over 200 agents, including snipers, to harass and intimidate a rancher in Nevada!
Supposedly, this was to protect a turtle. Humpty Dumpty, please call your office.

Harry Reid Calls Cliven Bundy Supporters “Domestic Terrorists”
“I repeat: what happened there was domestic terrorism”
Paul Joseph Watson
Infowars.com
April 17, 2014
Senator Harry Reid has escalated the war of words over the Cliven Bundy dispute, sensationally labeling the Nevada cattle rancher’s supporters “domestic terrorists” during an event in Las Vegas today.
During a ‘Hashtags & Headlines’ event at the Paris Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Reid referred to Bundy supporters as “Nothing more than domestic terrorists,” adding, “I repeat: what happened there was domestic terrorism.”
Reid was referring to the stand off on Saturday in Bunkerville where Bundy supporters, some of whom were armed, forced Bureau of Land Management agents to back down and release around 380 head of cattle belonging to Bundy that had been seized over the course of the previous week.
Reid claimed that Bundy viewed the United States as a “foreign government,” while accusing his supporters of goading violence.
“There were hundreds, hundreds of people from around the country that came there,” Reid said. “They had sniper rifles in the freeway. They had weapons, automatic weapons. They had children lined up. They wanted to make sure they got hurt first … What if others tried the same thing?”
Despite Reid’s characterization of Bundy supporters as “domestic terrorists,” the only violence metered out during the dispute was when BLM agents tasered and assaulted Bundy supporters during an incident on April 9.
No matter where you stand on the Bundy issue, Reid’s characterization of American protesters as “domestic terrorists” is chilling and a massive backlash is almost certain to follow.
It also fits the narrative that the federal government has been pushing for years through literature such as the MIAC report, which framed Ron Paul supporters, libertarians, people who display bumper stickers, people who own gold, or even people who fly a U.S. flag, as potential terrorists. In 2012, a Homeland Security study was leaked which characterized Americans who are “suspicious of centralized federal authority,” and “reverent of individual liberty” as “extreme right-wing” terrorists.
Reid attracted controversy earlier this week when he promised that the BLM’s fight with Bundy was “not over”. The Nevada Senator was hit with accusations of cronyism after his former staffer Neil Kornze was confirmed as the new BLM director earlier this month.
Reid is obviously angry after his complicity in the siege against the Bundy family was exposed and became a viral story. Although many news outlets claimed this issue was “debunked,” Reid’s involvement in a solar farm just 35 miles from Bundy’s ranch is documented. Archived files which were deleted from the BLM’s own website confirm that confiscating Bundy’s cattle was necessary in order to clear the way for lucrative solar deals with transnational corporations.
Meanwhile, the BLM has admitted slaughtering two prize bulls belonging to Cliven Bundy during their round up of his cattle. The BLM claims the bulls “posed a safety hazard” but refused to elaborate. Bundy supporters have pointed to photographs which appear to show one of the bulls having suffered a gunshot wound.

WHO OWNS NEVADA?
The real estate that later became the State of Nevada was acquired by the United States by virtue of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo in 1848 which ended the Mexican War and called for the payment of some 15 million dollars to Mexico by the victorious United States.
Sixteen years later, President Lincoln authorized the folks in Nevada, without the required 60,000 inhabitants, to hold a constitutional convention and apply for admission to the union.
It was 1864. The Civil War was in full blossom, and Lincoln was running for a second term. The Nevada constitution was adopted on October 31, just eight days before the election and immediately telegraphed verbatim to Washington, D.C. It was the most expensive telegraph ever sent, costing $3,416.77.
And so it was, that on the 31st day of October, 1864, President Abraham Lincoln issued the following proclamation:
Whereas the Congress of the United States passed an act, which was approved on the 21st day of March last, entitled "An act to enable the people of Nevada to form a constitution and State government and for the admission of such State into the Union on an equal footing with the original States;" and
Whereas the said constitution and State government have been formed, pursuant to the conditions prescribed by the fifth section of the act of Congress aforesaid, and the certificate required by the said act and also a copy of the constitution and ordinances have been submitted to the President of the United States:
Now, therefore, be it known that I, Abraham Lincoln, President of the United States, in accordance with the duty imposed upon me by the act of Congress aforesaid, do hereby declare and proclaim that the said State of Nevada is admitted into the Union on an equal footing with the original States.
The Constitution of Nevada, which was approved by the President and the Congress of the United States begins with these words:
All political power is inherent in the people.
That statement, common to the constitutions of most of the American states, is not a mere academic observation. Used in a constitution, it is an assertion of sovereignty.
What is sovereignty? Very simply, sovereignty is the right to use force to impose your will. It is the right to govern. The right to rule. The right to make laws.
Unlike other nations, sovereignty in the United States is dual; it is divided between the states and the national government. The national government has international sovereignty as a member of the family of nations on the planet. It also has interstate sovereignty, as defined in the United States Constitution, to regulate commerce among the several states of the American union.
The states have domestic sovereignty, which is often called the police power. It is the authority to regulate the affairs of the people. It encompasses the full range of governmental control over the activities of the people; criminal laws, marriage laws, real estate laws, corporations, education, licensing professions, occupations and businesses, health care. The list goes on and on. Basically, the domestic sovereignty of the states includes the right to legislate on any and every subject, unless there is an express constitutional prohibition.
The sovereignty of the national government is just the opposite. The United States may only legislate on subjects specified in the national constitution.
The United States of America owns something like 86 to 89 percent of the real estate in Nevada. But it does not own that land in the same sense that it owns Puerto Rico or Guam. It owns that land in the same sense that it owns post office buildings and federal courthouses all over the country.
It owns that land subject to the domestic sovereignty of the State of Nevada. The United States has no more rights to the land upon which Mr. Bundy has been grazing his cattle than Exxon or General Motors or Bill Gates would have if they owned the land.
If your dog wanders into my yard, I don’t own your dog. I can’t kill your dog, I can’t sell you dog and I can’t refuse to give it back to you. If you build a house on my lot and live there for twenty years, you will own the lot by adverse possession. If you build a baseball field on my lot and use it for twenty years, you will, by prescription, create and easement that will allow you to continue playing baseball there.
Whatever rights Mr. Bundy has to graze his cattle on federal land should be determined by Nevada courts according to Nevada law. Whatever rights the United States has to keep Bundy from grazing his cattle on federal land should be determined and enforced by Nevada law.
The United States of America may own the land next to Bundy’s home, but it is not the domestic sovereign on such lands. It does not have police power there. It can no more shoot people for trespass than any other land owner in Nevada.

Just In: Obama Accused By Congressman Of Illegal Action At Bundy Ranch
He cites a severe violation of U.S. Code -- 43 U.S.C. Section 1733, Subsection C
After the federal Bureau of Land Management agents backed down from their intimidating stance at the Bundy Ranch last weekend, ample evidence has surfaced indicating the standoff between the government and the Nevada ranching family is far from over. Throughout the weeklong stalemate, members of the Bundy family were physically assaulted by armed officers, numerous cows were shot dead, and protesters faced threats of gunfire for merely expressing their outrage.
Immediately after what many considered a victory against a tyrannical federal agency, a number of leftist voices – most notably, Sen. Harry Reid – indicated the action against this family will continue.
In response, Texas Republican Rep. Steve Stockman sent a letter to Barack Obama, Department of the Interior Sec. Sally Jewell, and BLM Director Neil Kornze, laying out his position that any such action by the agency would violate the U.S. Constitution.
“Because of this standoff,” he wrote, “I have looked into BLM’s authority to conduct such paramilitary raids against American citizens, and it appears that BLM is acting in a lawless manner in Nevada.”
He cited the limited powers granted to the federal government, noting the bureau has no “right to assume preemptory police powers, that role being reserved to the States,” and explained “many federal laws require the federal government to seek assistance from local law enforcement whenever the use of force may become necessary.”
The letter included a section of the U.S. Code — 43 U.S.C. Section 1733, Subsection C — stating exactly that point. [Emphasis Stockman's]
“When the Secretary determines that assistance is necessary in enforcing Federal laws and regulations relating to the public lands or their resources he shall offer a contract to appropriate local officials having law enforcement authority within their respective jurisdictions with the view of achieving maximum feasible reliance upon local law enforcement officials in enforcing such laws and regulations.”
In the case of the Bundy Ranch, he continued, “the relevant local law enforcement officials appear to be the Sheriff of Clark County, Nevada, Douglas C. Gillespie.”
Gillespie, however, conspicuously took a back seat to BLM forces during the standoff.
“Indeed,” Stockman wrote, “the exact type of crisis that the federal government has provoked at the Bundy ranch is the very type of incident that Congress knew could be avoided by relying on local law enforcement officials.”
The stated purpose of the correspondence is for the Obama administration “to bring the BLM into compliance with 43 U.S.C. section 1733.”
Absent a full investigation into the agency’s actions, he concluded, “the federal government must not only stand down, but remove all federal personnel from anywhere near the Bundy ranch.”
Legislators and law enforcement personnel have stood alongside state militia members and the Bundy family in opposing the excessive force employed by the BLM. Stockman’s letter adds even more weight to the growing sentiment against the federal overreach.
http://www.westernjournalism.com/con...g-lawless-blm/
Harry Reid had to be aware of this because the Atomic Energy Commission and Dept. Of Defense had to allow the Nye County Sheriff's deputys to police the Nevada Test Site. Maybe his young inexperienced director of the BLM was ignorant of this fact because of the break down in our education system. But Obama being a ]CONSTITUTIONAL lawyer [/SARC] surely is fully aware. When I was just out of high school I worked for the local Ford dealer. Several times a year the resident Las Vegas FBI agent came to town and often stopped to get his car serviced. He always went to the Sheriff's office to see permission to conduct his business. I know this because he personally told me so.
Edit to add: I have believed from the start of this conflict that any of those armed federal rangers who attached or harrassed a citizen has lef himself open to criminal charges and to personal civll law suits. And for killing and stealing cattle ??. . Hmmm

Well it all makes sense since the sheriff is electable that he's able to secure others to do the dirty deeds.

Harry Reid Doubles Down: “If They’re Patriots, We’re in Big Trouble”
After Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid called Bundy Ranch supporters “domestic terrorists” earlier this week, on Friday he doubled down.
On KSNV’s What’s Your Point?, Reid had this to say:
“If anyone thinks by any figment of their imagination that what happened up there last week was just people rallying to somebody that was oppressed, 600 people came in armed. They had practiced. They had maneuvered.”
“They knew what they were doing. They set up snipers in strategic locations with sniper rifles. They had assault weapons. They had automatic weapons. And they boasted about the fact that they put women and children, in fact one retired sheriff from Arizona posted he put women and children, so that they would get hit first.”
“If there ever was an example of people who were domestic violent terrorist wannabes, these are the guys, and I think that we should call it that way. We have a situation that is really untoward.”
Notice that its not the federal government whose bad for threatening to murder peaceful protestors, it is the protestors fault for possibly getting shot.
A Fox News interview with Constitutional sheriff Richard Mack is what Reid was in part referring to.
Here is the 22 second sound bite:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=RZd61_9hofE
Link to video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?featur...&v=RZd61_9hofE
Obviously Mack is discussing having women VOLUNTARILY placed at the front lines to act as a deterrent to violence, reasoning that surely the feds wouldn’t shoot them. But if they did, it would illustrate the full injustice and manically nature of the mafia style situation.
The mainstream liberal media has fed the public a steady diet of pro-government propaganda for the last two weeks. Even going as far as to label Cliven Bundy and his supporters dangerous anti-government right wing extremists and domestic terrorists for daring to live by their conscience, and stand up to a thieving government.
The Southern Property Law Center, famous for its far-left radicalism has even tagged Bundy and his supporters as a “threat” in their “Hate Watch blog:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=G729gUVYIC0
link to video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?featur...&v=G729gUVYIC0
Its literally amazing how many Americans are reacting to this obvious abuse of power by the federal government and their enforcers. Just visit #BundyRanch on twitter and you will get your fill of unwavering totalitarian support of caging, stealing from, and even physically harming and killing Cliven Bundy and his courageous supporters for daring to make a stand.
Senator Dean Heller (R-NV) objected to Reid’s description of the events in Bunkersville, Nevada, last week at Bundy’s ranch. Heller told What’s Your Point? Hosts Jeff Gillan and Amy Tarkanian, “What Senator Reid may call domestic terrorists, I call patriots. We have a very different view on this.”
Reid responded, “These people think they’re patriots, and they’re not. If they’re patriots, we’re in big trouble.”
“It’s a pretty broad brush when you have boy scouts there. You have veterans at the event. You have grandparents at the event. And these are people who, as long as they’re not promoting violence, in my opinion…” said Heller.
Reid, shocked by Heller’s remarks, said, “Promoting violence? There were sniper rifles. Talk to Sheriff Gillespie – automatic weapons. That’s grandmothers? That’s boy scouts? I hope not, because we got more problems with boy scouts than whether they can have gay leaders, if that’s the case.”
Heller told Gillan and Tarkanian that he took “more issue with BLM coming in with a military army of individuals with snipers. I was talking to individuals at the event, and to have your own government with sniper lenses on you – it made a lot of people very uncomfortable.”
Heller says he plans to call for hearings on Capitol Hill to try and find out why BLM handled the situation so heavy-handedly as well as the situation surrounding the federal ownership of land, while Reid has spoken to Clark County Sheriff Gillespie, Attorney General Eric Holder, Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell, and FBI chief James Comey as to what steps to take next.
Despite Reid’s characterization of Bundy supporters as “domestic terrorists,” the only violence that occurred during the dispute was when BLM agents tasered and assaulted Bundy supporters during an incident on April 9.
Reid’s characterization of American protesters as “domestic terrorists fits the narrative that the federal government has been pushing for years through literature such as the MIAC report, which framed Ron Paul supporters, libertarians, people who display bumper stickers, people who own gold, or even people who fly a U.S. flag, as potential terrorists. In 2012, a Homeland Security study was leaked which characterized Americans who are “suspicious of centralized federal authority,” and “reverent of individual liberty” as “extreme right-wing” terrorists.
Spokespeople for Reid refused to comment when asked by Appalachian Area News about the double standard of supporting armed agents attempting to steal personal private property while demonizing armed Americans resisting them.
For slime ball Reid, armed federal snipers and machine gunners good, armed Americans bad. OK got it. Now why would anyone need that pesky second amendment?
Turns out Reid has been using the federal and state governments for years to push hard working Americans off their land in order to secure shady energy deals.
Check out this article by Jerome Corsi for the extensive details. It does not include the Solar farm story many in the alternative media have pointed to as the reason Bundy was being pushed of his land. Even though their were specific references to thew removal of Bundy cattle in project documents, the project was shelved in 2013.

Western state lawmakers now openly talking about taking back 'Federal' land. About fucking time - even with the most perverse and twisted 'interpretation' of the Constitution there cannot be any justification whatsoever for D.C. having any claim for these lands. No, this 'claim' by D.C. is strictly Marxist.

when did killing kids an women mean anything to this goverment
Apparently killing kids and women is OK by the government when using drones. They do it all the time overseas.
By labeling Bundy and his freedom loving patriots "domestic terrorists", the government can now use drones on them, in our own country.
This could be the start of a civil war. All it takes is Nevada to say NO, no more feds on our land, we are claiming sovereignty from the Federal government. Then Texas jumps on board, Arizona.
The feds are pushing the limit, and shit is happening. What an exciting time to be an American.
Monty might have posted some links to these two interviews with Wayne Hage in a thread here but if he did I didn't find it so I thought I would. These interviews are long but they are very interesting on this subject of ownership and grazing rights. His fight was over the same issues and with the same people Cliven Bundy is in a fight with. Wayne Hage was good at explaining everything and he was a good and interesting story teller. He acquired wisdom from his experiences over the years and it's very interesting listening to him tell his story.
Wayne Hage and Helen Chenoweth both spoke to a cattlemans group several years ago I belong to on this subject and it was very interesting to me then and I'm glad I attended it. Last fall Cliven Bundy and Richard Mack also both spoke to this same cattlemans group in my area but I was to busy to attend. Wish I could have made it.

This interview was conducted with Wayne Hage at the Pine Creek Ranch in Nevada. One of America's largest ranches, it stretches over 1100 square miles (approx. 760,00 acres). From the time Hage and his family bought the ranch in June 1978 until 2009, they battled the US Government and various environmental agencies over the grazing and water rights, ultimately prevailing at the US Supreme Court level. It became one of America's landmark property rights cases and is studied in law schools today. Part one of two parts is Hage's fascinating account of the events that transpired on his ranch. Hage passed away shortly after these interviews were conducted and we believe that this was the last time he went on camera. I didn't know until I interviewed Wayne that (according to Wayne) much of the water in the United States is owned by United Water, which is in turn owned by the Suez Company located in France but owned by the United Arab Emirates, whose mission is to be the largest water company in the world. This interview is unedited (except for my questions, which were taken out, leaving only Wayne's voice).

This interview is the last one that Wayne gave before he passed away. It is a fascinating look at the challenges of ranching life in America. No editing - just Wayne.

Yes, Wayne and Helen were both interesting speakers. I had the pleasure of listening to both around the dinner table. Wayne Hage also was confronted by armed BLM personnel until he got Sheriff Tony de Meo involved. That put a stop to the threats of felony arrests.
My brother has a few head of cows leased to the Pine Creek Ranch. He also was greeted by the Forest Ranger and his armed goon on his own land. Of course Ray told them to get that guy of my property and go get a deputy if he wanted to come onto prívate property.

I am putting this up WAY out of chronological order because of its importance. LVPD Sheriff Gillespie said that the BLM would pull out and release the cattle back to Mr. Bundy within an hour of his (Gillespie’s) speech to the crowd. It did not happen as he promised. Worse, an MRAP and a LVPD SWAT team were only one exit away. Why? After the discovery of the MRAP and the SWAT Team, Gillespie claimed they were to keep the peace. But, if the cattle were released according to the promise of Gillespie, no need to “keep the peace” would have existed. Therefore, Brand and I conclude that a more sinister and deadly trap was being set to end the lives of many people, especially BLM officers, and to use the massacre as an excuse to implement far more stringent and tyrannical controls over the American People. Gillespie sits on the board of the despicable Southern Poverty Law Center and the DHS. This was a highly sophisticated manipulation to kill as many as possible and blame it on the liberty/conservative movement.

New photos released by the Bundy family Sunday provided more evidence to the claim that the Bureau of Land Management was illegally killing and burying confiscated cattle.

Posted to the official Bundy Ranch Facebook page, the gruesome image shows several dead cattle being removed from a makeshift grave discovered just this weekend.
“Digging up 1 of the HUGE holes where they threw the cows that they had ran to death or shot,” the picture’s description reads. “I feel that this NEEDS to be put out for the public to see.”
The picture backs up reports by several people including Nevada assemblywoman Michele Fiore, who commented on the BLM’s cattle graves last Tuesday.
“Near their compound, right off the highway, they were digging holes,” Fiore said. “They tried to bury some cows on the compound, but I guess they didn’t dig the hole deep enough, so they throw a cow in and they put dirt over him and you have cows’ legs sticking up out of the dirt.”
Fiore also displayed several photos on her Twitter account Sunday, labeling the incident the “BLM Massacre.”

Although the BLM’s court order only permitted the agency to seize Bundy’s cattle, federal agents have thus far already admitted to shooting and killing two prized bulls, claiming the animals were a “safety hazard.”

Video from the area also revealed holes in water tanks, a smashed tortoise burrow, as well as destroyed fences and water lines.
“They had total control of this land for one week, and look at the destruction they did in one week,” Corey Houston, family friend of Cliven Bundy, told Fox News last week. “Nowhere in the court order that I saw does it say that they can destroy infrastructure, destroy corrals, tanks … desert environment, shoot cattle.”
Separate images taken from an airplane also uncovered hundreds of cattle stuffed into small pens on a BLM compound, prompting the FAA to order a no-fly zone over the area.
Despite a clear and violent overreach by the BLM, Nevada Senator Harry Reid has responded to the incident by calling Bundy and his supporters “domestic terrorists.”
“There were hundreds, hundreds of people from around the country that came there,” Reid said at an event in Las Vegas. “They had sniper rifles in the freeway. They had weapons, automatic weapons. They had children lined up. They wanted to make sure they got hurt first … What if others tried the same thing?”
Unsurprisingly, proof of automatic weapons being present during the stand off between peaceful protesters and the BLM was not provided by Reid. Video of the incident also clearly shows only men and woman, most of whom were unarmed, lined up peacefully.
Whether it be assaulting a cancer survivor, attacking a pregnant woman, tasereing protesters, killing animals or unleashing an attack dog, all extreme behavior has exclusively come from the BLM.

Death and destruction are good, positive, and constructive things when done in the name of Sata....er, I mean Uncle Sam. What's to complain about?? ???
ETA: That just as easily be 'domestic terra-ists' in that mass grave - afterall our overlords regard us all as cattle anyhoo.
Those cockholsters can't even properly bury cattle, even with a fucking backhoe! A bunch of gung ho retards.

Nevada range war: Western states move to take over federal land
The fight over Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy’s cows grazing illegally on federal land is a symbol of a much larger issue: control of land in western states, where the federal government is dominant.

Like a mustang tied to a fence post, many westerners for years have resisted Uncle Sam’s control of land they say more properly belongs to states or counties – or to nobody at all except the ranchers, miners, and loggers who work the land for its natural resources.

The tussle over Cliven Bundy’s 400 cows – grazing on federal land, although he refuses to pay the required fees now amounting to more than $1 million – sharpens this debate, which has featured state legislators, county officials, environmentalists, and federal judges (all of whom have ruled against Mr. Bundy).
In Salt Lake City Friday, representatives from Utah, Idaho, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, Wyoming, Oregon, and Washington met for a “Legislative Summit on the Transfer of Public Lands.”
"Those of us who live in the rural areas know how to take care of lands," Montana state Sen. Jennifer Fielder said at a news conference. "We have to start managing these lands. It's the right thing to do for our people, for our environment, for our economy and for our freedoms."
In other words, today’s revival of the “Sagebrush Rebellion” is as much about political philosophy as it is about great stretches of the largely-arid territory west of the 100th meridian splitting the Dakotas and running down through Texas.

There’s a modern tea party political element to it, but it goes much farther back to when many western territories achieved statehood in the 19th century, working out deals with Washington (as Mormon Utah did over what adherents at the time called “plural marriages”).
The map accompanying this article shows the difference between the West and the rest of the country. Here’s a list showing percentages of federal land by state, according to the Congressional Research Service. It includes the US Bureau of Land Management, the US Forest Service, National Parks, and military bases: Nevada 81, Alaska 62, Utah 67, Oregon 53, Idaho 62, Arizona 42, California 48, Wyoming 48, New Mexico 35, Colorado 36.
State lawmakers say they’re better prepared to manage such lands, both for the environment and for regional economies.
"There is a distinct difference in the way federal agencies are managing the federal lands today," Sen. Fielder said. "They used to do a good job, but they are hamstrung now with conflicting policies, politicized science, and an extreme financial crisis at the national level. It makes it impossible for these federal agencies to manage the lands responsibly anymore."
Utah has led a legislative charge to demand relinquishment of title to certain lands that exclude national parks and wilderness study areas, reports the Deseret News in Salt Lake City.
The “Transfer of Public Lands Act,” signed into law by Utah Gov. Gary Herbert in 2012, set the stage for a formal showdown with the government by demanding action under threat of lawsuit, the newspaper reports. Other states are exploring similar options.
Often, the political fight centers on some hapless species of plant or animal threatened with extinction and protected under federal law – like the northern spotted owl in Oregon or the desert tortoise in California, Nevada, Arizona, and Utah. Sometimes federal agencies are caught in the middle, trying to apply the “multiple use” doctrine to lands in dispute.
A group of environmental groups recently filed a notice of intent to sue the BLM for failing to report impacts to the desert tortoise and similarly threatened and endangered species from off-road vehicles, cattle grazing and other activities in California.
“BLM says it’s committed to conserving species and habitats in California deserts – yet it has failed to comply with even the most basic requirements for management of desert tortoises and other rare and vulnerable wildlife,” Lisa Belenky, a senior attorney at the Center for Biological Diversity, said in a statement.
A potentially dangerous confrontation was averted last week when the BLM stopped rounding up Cliven Bundy’s cattle, which had been described as “trespassing” on federal land. Hundreds of Bundy supporters had gathered, many of them armed with assault-style rifles and other weapons.
The BLM vows to continue its action against Bundy in the courts, where it has won every decision so far.
But this dispute over a few hundred cows is an important symbol of a much larger issue that’s been part of US western history since wagon trains brought settlers west along the Oregon Trail.
"What’s happened in Nevada is really just a symptom of a much larger problem," Utah House Speaker Becky Lockhart said at the public lands summit.

Martin Armstrong Asks "Will We Have Another 'Waco' In Nevada?"
The Feds are gathering and have brought in hired guns. We are more likely than not headed into a military confrontation – the first since Waco. Keep in mind that Obama’s head of the Justice Department, Eric Holder now Attorney General, called the shots on Waco back then. He got away with it before – why not again?

There is a hope that if enough people show up the Feds will stand-down.
The likelihood of the Feds ever backing down is highly unlikely.
The Federal Government is severely disconnected from the people and views anyone who stands up to them as a criminal and domestic terrorist.
This is merely a dress rehearsal for the next 5 years that we face – a rising confrontation between the people and the government.

Sheriff Mack was on the radio this morning, doing an interview on my local station, and they were discussing the snipers, and how the BLM doesn't have snipers on staff, and they weren't identified as FBI, so they believe the snipers are likely paid mercenaries.
