This is the way it is in my family; I produce and bring in the paycheck, my wife spends it. That doesn't bother me though, she does a good job buying what we need. I like what she buys and cooks for dinner, I like the clothes she gets for the kids, I like the vacations she plans for us.

But the gold industry went farther when coming up with cyanidation, an early 1900's breakthrough, to extract colossal profits from low grade ores. Greed can never be satisfied. But the use of extremely dangerous chemicals is not restricted to gold mines only. Sulfuric acid is used for copper for example. (see link at bottom page).
